Chapter 66

"No loose ligaments so that's a plus, no fracture, sprains, and nothing's broken." Scott continued wrapping athletic tape around her ankle. "This started three months ago?" Massy leaned back on the cushioned athletic table. "Yea, before Rio but after the World Cup." "Well if it continues, our last resort is surgery." Scott gave Massy a serious look, a look that let her know this was a situation that's wasn't up for debate, but she trusted the team trainer and his years of sports therapy under his belt. From soccer players, football players, baseball and hockey Scott had seen every injury you could imagine, some he'd like to forget but he was definitely more than qualified. "Surgery." She whined covering her face with her arm. "That involves recovery and patience I don't have." Scott chuckled and nodded his head. "You are absolutely right, it involves recovery that will be done correctly so you can get back on the field." Another serious look was thrown Massy's way. He smiled and forcefully ripped the tape. "Fine." She sighed sitting up, she grabbed her black knee sock and slid it over her foot and back up her leg until it covered her knee. Any injury, minor or major was a no no for any athlete but they were also unpreventable. A athletes job was to preform to the best of their ability and their bodies were the supplies needed to preform at whatever level they succeeded in. Massy was no stranger to injury, playing through high school with a swollen elbow, a broken pinky and ring finger through college and U20's, and now a ankle. Injuries were nothing, surgery was different. Involving recovery, missed games, time off, sitting down and being still and that was just something she wasn't looking forward too. Massy walked down the team training facility, a building that she grew to know like the back of her hand, the long hallway that eventually lead to a set of thick metal doors, she pushed against them and walked through another wider set of hallways, memorabilia hung from the walls. Team owners and coaches throughout the years, charities that the Western Nee York Flash team had funded. "Hey co-captain, congratulations on the new Forward position." Massy stopped typing whatever message she was currently giving all her attention too and looked up, Sophie gave a forced smile as she spoke. "Thank you." Massy leaned against the wall and folded her arms across her chest, for some reason this situation called for her to be just as petty as Sophie could sometimes be. "It's funny because I thought I was being traded and what's even funnier is that Odell thought I was too!" Massy frowned then smiled. Sophie look back over her shoulder buying whatever time she could, she already knew where the conversation was going. "When, I heard your name in that specific conversation and thought I'd let him know. Nothing big nor was it to cause trouble." Massy smiled again, then looked up at the ceiling trying her best to not kill Sophie right then and there for her bullshit. "You know this whole situation just keeps getting funnier, because well this is a team, and trades were going on. EVERYONE'S name was mentioned even yours! And the fact that you were so focused in on a conversation about Forwards when you're a f*****g Midfielder, so why the f**k would you be worried about where the hell I was going..." Massy continued her smiling, it was obvious that her temper was rising the more and more she called her out. Sophie began to interrupt, Massy put her index finger in her face rejecting anything she had to say. "AAAAND another thing I find funny is how you think you have the authority to tell MY fiancé what's going on with me AS IF! I don't go home every night to him and tell him about my day." Massy rubbed the fact of marriage and what Sophie could of possibly had in her face again. Sophie chuckled and looked down at her laced up cleats. "I, was simply being a friend and giving a friend a heads up." She shrugged her shoulders. "You are not a friend of mine not Odell's and I'm pretty sure he's made that clear to you several times." Massy eyed her. "How do you know what he's made clear and unclear, you're halfway around the world, he's in a different city, YOU don't know what he made clear to me. Nor do you know what he's made clear to any other woman, he's a professional athlete, you won't be the only one of his picking. Trust me I was with him for a year, he gets bored easily." Sophie folded her arms across her chest, she too leaned against the wall with a smile feeling satisfied with her comeback. "You knew what the f**k you were doing! You were trying to be messy and it failed similar to your relationship with Odell. It's not that he gets bored easily. Because I'm very, very good at keeping his attention. As soon as he got what he wanted out of you he was bored, you're the one that's boring." Massy took a low blow, physically hurting Sophie would get her in trouble but a unrecorded conversation of bringing up failed attempts at keeping a man that she was in love with happy would mentally scar her and hopefully cause her to keep her distance from her. She was officially done dealing with Sophie. Massy stepped closer and smiled. "And honey trust me, there isn't anything you could say to make me insecure about Odell's actions involving OUR relationship." Massy looked up at the ceiling as if her memory had gotten the best of her, she tapped her index finger on her chin. "What was her name!?... Erica! Right! The pretty Spanish girl with the big curly hair that he was so caught up on when you guys were in college." Massy leaned in closer, whispering as if she had juicy information about someone else. "I even heard he told you to go home so he could have a drama free birthday weekend WITH HER! And you complied! All so he wouldn't get mad and break up with you!" Massy laughed and stuck out her bottom lip. "Alex was right! Girl you are a perfect Doormat! Oh h yea, I know all the stories. I know all the dirt on Sophie and Odell. See that's what happens when you're best friends with your significant other, they're comfortable enough to speak openly with you about their past and wrong doings but you wouldn't know that side of Odell would you? You never made it to that point in the relationship huh? Don't ever try to come for my relationship with him again." Massy bit her bottom lip looking Sophie in the face, she had turned a bright red out of anger and embarrassment of her past with Odell. Mass had stepped down to a petty level of a high school mean girl, but that was the only way to keep Sophie out of her personal space involving her relationship with Odell. Sophie's eyes looked like glass, they glossed over with a thick layer of water. She remained unbothered, emotionless as she stared at her. Massy stepped from the wall and began walking purposely bumping her shoulder into Sophie's as soon as Massy was behind her she let the thick tears fall from her eyes. "Come on girl! Dry that pretty face of yours we got practice! We gotta get you out that red shirt!" Massy teased lightly patting Sophie on the butt nonchalantly as if just scored a effortless goal, then simply took off down the hall.
