The Lakers weight room was loud with commotion. After her morning training with her US team it back at it hours later this time with Jordan and his younger brother Bear. Massy sat down on the hard floor pulling her white ankle sock off her left foot then began peeling the black athletic tape from around her ankle.
"I don't know... I think the family is weird as f**k. But I don't know them the way you do... I've never met any of them and I don't want to. She seems like the only normal one out the bunch but I can only base it off what I see on tv... Or what they put on tv." Massy said of Jordan and Kendall's relationship as she balled the tape up in her hand and picking at small bits of it that got stuck on her fingers.
Jordan leaned back in the metal chair. Sweat still poured down his face and dripped from his chin. "I don't like any of them. Not my cup of tea." Bear added while he laid on the floor facing the ceiling.
Massy looked over at Bear and smiled then turned back to Jordan. "I feel like with that family... If you're not famous enough to really get them a good story in the press or on magazines then they don't bother with you. They f**k with people based off their popularity and what they can do for their brand than actually f*****g with someone because they genuinely like them..." Massy shook her head. "I give it another week or so before she moves on to a rapper or some shit." She said about Kendall. She sent Jordan a cryptic warning knowing that wasn't exactly what he wanted to hear. He shook his head and frowned at Massy giving her a dirty look.
"Ace..." Jordan said not sounding pleased at all. He twisted his face.
Massy's hands went up in front of her in defense. "Hey! You asked me for my thoughts. I'm not going to lie to you." She pushed herself off the ground and dusted her hands off on either side of her black shorts.
"If you ask me... You was better off with Iman." Bear said also standing up.
"That's funny, cuz I didn't ask you!" Jordan hissed at his younger brother. Not caring to hear his opinion. Bear shrugged his shoulders and remained unbothered with his brother's attitude.
"Well I wish I could continue to chat with you lovely ladies, but I got s**t to do and a flight to catch." Massy grabbed her gym bag and tossed the strap over her shoulder.
"It's always the middle brother that's a asshole! Always." Jordan said throwing a insult back at her and shaking her head. Massy faked a laugh before she hit Jordan on his left arm. "Where you going?" Jordan asked with a frown rubbing the spot Massy punched.
"See my mother in law." Massy said with a genuine smile. She reached down and unzipped the small pocket inside the Nike gym bag and pulled out her engagement ring and slid it back on her finger.
"You still going to my first game for Drew League right?" Jordan asked her while watched her.
Massy shook her head yes. "Don't forget my game on the twenty second and I leave on the twenty seventh." Massy said backing up.
"We there!" He assured her as he watched her walk away and out the side doors of the gym.
The dark stormy clouds had hovered over Louisiana making it appear later than what it really was but that didn't stop Heather and Massy from smiling from ear to ear once they laid eyes on one another.
"I am so happy you finally got here!" Heather asked as placed a bowl of tortilla chips next to a bowl of bright red salsa. Massy looked down at her phone making sure the photo of her and Koba was delivered to Odell's phone with the message of letting him know they made it to his mother's house.
"Me too, it's been nonstop all week and training on top of a busy schedule... O is in Germany, the season is getting ready to start." Massy shook her head and grabbed a single chip and scooped up the salsa. "I'm leaving in less than a month. I had to see you all before I go." She opened her mouth and placed the chip in her mouth.
Heather leaned against the counter. "You and him are always moving. When are you two going to get married!? Where is that on the schedule?" Heather asked arching her right eyebrow and smiling.
Massy looked off into space and paused for a moment. "That's a good question." She teased. Heather stood up laughing and pushed herself off the counter to check the boiling pasta. "We will get married eventually... I like the space we're in right now." Massy said as she began twisting her engagement ring around her finger with her thumb.
Koba sat at Heather's feet staring up at her waiting for food to hit the floor. "And that's all that matters. That you two are happy with one another. That time will come... The scheduling will fall into place."
Massy looked down at Koba then up at Heather's back. "Yea. I think so too."
Heather turned around and grabbed one of the high stools and sat down on the other side of the island. "How's the Olympic training?"
"About that..." Massy cautioned as she leaned back in her chair with a slight grin.
Heather sat up straight, her smile disappeared, and her eyes widened. "You're not pregnant are you!" She placed her hands on the edge of the counter bracing herself as she waited for Massy to further explain. "You know... Them Beckham boys will get you at the last minute! Girl they will get you!" Heather joked with wide eyes and a smile. Although she had qualified for the 1992 Olympics she had to withdraw from the games due to finding out she was pregnant with Odell. However it never stopped her from training like an Olympian.
Massy couldn't help but laugh she covered her mouth at the joke. "Oh my god!" Massy put her head down as Heather continued to shake her head. Aside from Heather and Massy's similarities. Their determination, drive, athleticism, and even physically the two women were similar. It was funny that history could possibly repeat itself at any moment with Odell and Massy as it did with Odell Sr and Heather. "No I'm not pregnant. Not yet... At least." Massy confirmed. Heather released the breath that was caught in her throat and placed her hand over her heart. "But with Odell not being able to go. Of course my mom, dad, and sister will be there. But I was wondering if you and Jasmyne would want to come for the first two games which is during the first week." Massy gave her a wide smile showing off her dimples. Heather was taking longer to respond than Massy would have liked. She made her way around the counter and pouted showing her bottom lip. "You'll only be there for five days tops! Pleeeease!"
Heather smiled at Massy's offer. If she couldn't have Odell there shed move to the next best thing. His mother. "I'd love to be there and support you."
Massy tossed her arms around Heather, this time it was Massy releasing the breath that was caught in her throat. "UGH! I LOVE YOU!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!"
