Another flight from Vegas took The USWNT to Chicago. The first of two final matches before the U.S. Team departs for the 2016 Olympics. Following the game in Chicago, they will take a final break and then regroup for a last match prior to traveling to Brazil. It was announced that morning via the USWNT Website and other social media outlets that USA will face New Zealand (Aug. 3), France (Aug. 6) and Colombia (Aug. 9) in Group A of the 2016 Olympics.
Massy still remained solid in her decision to go to the Olympic Games, as much as Odell didn't want her to go, she assured him she'd take extreme precaution to remain safe and unbothered along with the teams physicians and doctors. Massy flashed her dimples giving him her smile to soften him up, Odell would try his hardest to not allow her break him down, but even he couldn't resist her charm.
Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois couldn't of had the greatest weather for a soccer game or any sports game at that. Fans quickly filled the stadium as the sun very slowly set over the dome. Odell and Brad signed as many autographs as they could while making their way through sections of fans and young children who had no clue what was going on and just seemed happy to be outside and running around. Odell wasn't the only one to scribble his name across whatever was handed to him. Jordan Clarkson also slowly made his way from the opposite entrance as young boys greeted him. Both men coming to witness one of Massy's last games before her month long goal of becoming an Olympian.
South Africa, also called Banyana Banyana, have not managed to qualify for a World Cup since 2007 but the team had slowly and steadily been climbing FIFA rankings over the past 10 years and you can probably expect an energetic and exciting match, but not necessarily a balanced one. This was the U.S.'s first ever match against South Africa, Chrystal Dunn's only goal against the team at the 20 minute mark would set the pace of play the entire game. Falling to The USWNT 1-0. Costa Rica would be the next and last team to try and defeat them before the send off
It was another opportunity to place Massy in another public situation she was not in. Yet Jordan's i********: post and presence at the game was over shadowed by Odell's. Yet Odell was currently a bigger star, both equally on the rise, Jordan was still in the making and had yet to make a true statement in basketball the way "the catch" did for Odell in football.
Both men shared similarities, their personal life being a major one. Both remained quiet in what they did on their own time and who they did it with. Keeping their personal life away from the public. If it didn't involve the field or court then it didn't involve the tabloids. They allowed the public to draw their own pictures and stores of their personal lives. It was a quality that Massy respected in both men. Especially in Odell.
It was interesting to her how she could be so similar to Odell yet so different at the same time. She was more open and sharing with life in general. She had no problem with setting a lie in the media straight. Odell however was the complete opposite. This was one of the many reason the two couldn't be any less perfect for one another. It forced them to speak to one another on what and what not to share when it came to the public. It forced them to be open with one another on multiple situations.
Massy had barley landed back in California before the rumors began flying around. From her not denying her relationship and engagement to Odell during her interview to her and Jordan having a fling. His phone lit up with mentions but Odell remained unbothered, not paying attention to any of the stories. He stood directly behind her, his arms wrapped around her chest as she leaned into him.
"I don't want you to leave." His head went down nuzzling the crook of her neck. His warm breath rolled down her chest as he spoke.
"You leaving me first!" She noted out loud to him, scrunching up her face. His long fingers covered hers as she interlocked his fingers with hers.
"My leaving... Is a week, yours is a whole damn month!" This time he noted to her then lightly bit at her cheek. Massy poked her bottom lip out.
"I really wish you could be there with me..." Massy said looking down at his large hand. Odell was quiet as he watched her force his hand open running her index finger over the calluses that formed on the inside of his hand from his vigorous and various workouts throughout his career. She began picking at the small yellowish hardened skin. "Like, that would make the whole trip for me." She said with a slight laugh trying her hardest to sound like she wasn't about to cry, but her eyes had already welled up and she was already thinking hard about the separation.
"I wish I could go too, it hurts that I can't be there, but I can breathe easier knowing that your mom and dad are going." He said trying to ease her current state of anxiety. He dropped his arms to her waist and wrapped them tightly around her body, squeezing her even closer to his.
"I know..." Massy nodded her head understanding. She knew she couldn't argue with him on this. She understood why he couldn't be there and she respected his preseason just like he respected hers. It was more of letting him know how wanted and needed he truly was. Something that Odell truly loved when she did it. She got quiet and took a breath. Almost scared to asked or speak up the next few words. "I know this is a lot, but since you can't come... Do you think... Maybe, your mom would..." Massy could feel Odell grow tense around her body. "Just for the week of my games... Just that week?" Odell frowned and remained quiet for a few more minutes. A thick heavy breath broke his silence. The cracking in Massy's voice caused him to pull his arms from her and turn her around he looked down at her, Massy quickly turned her head to prevent him from seeing her crying.
"Hey, you ok?" Massy straightened up her face the best she could once she heard the concern in his voice.
"Yes... Yea, I'm fine, just think she would like to go?" She shrugged her shoulders.
Odell was quiet again. "Ask her." He simply said, giving her the confirmation that he knew his mom would love the offer. A smile broke her frown as Odell pulled her into a tight hug. Her anxiety had dissipated... For the time being.
