Chapter Four The First Feeding I woke up reclining on a sofa with a cold cloth resting on my forehead. When I opened my eyes a man came into focus. He was much older than me with serious, compassionate eyes and black hair streaked with grey. His shirt was monogrammed with the letters VAMP-LA. I tried to get up but was unable to move a muscle. The man removed the cloth and placed his palm on my forehead. “You’re burning up,” the man said. He slipped a thermometer under my tongue and took my temperature. After a moment there was a beeping sound. He took out the thermometer and glanced at it with a shocked expression. “That’s not possible…” he said. “You’re temperature is much too high.” He put the thermometer down. My head was spinning and I couldn’t keep my eyes open. “Where am I?”
