Chap.11The Issue about Power

Aarons POV “Wow, I thought it was just a red gem, but I made a mistake. I see now.” She said, her voice laced with confusion, but curiosity taking the lead. “Let’s go to my room, it’s in there,” she added, and I followed without hesitation. We entered her room, and she handed me the gem. I took it gently, feeling the weight of its significance. “This is a very precious gem,” I began, my voice steady, “I thought it could hold your soul. That’s why I gave it to you—but really, it’s your gift.” She looked at me with a puzzled expression. “What are you talking about?” I blinked, realizing my slip-up. “Oh, forget about that. You’ll understand when the time comes,” I said quickly, hoping to change the subject before she caught onto my unguarded words. But she wasn’t easily swayed. “I think I’ll leave next week,” she said, her voice soft but firm. Her words froze me in my tracks. “But why would you leave? You can stay here as long as you want. We have everything you need, and my mom adores you.” She paused, looking away before meeting my eyes again. “You’ve done so much for me, Aaron, and I can’t stay here forever. My town—my mother—are struggling. If I don’t go back, they might lose everything. That land, it’s all we have left. A hotel wants to buy it, but I need money, and Kyle’s offer was the best I’ve got.” I could feel the tension coil in my chest. The thought of her leaving—leaving me—was unbearable. “I’ll give you four times what Kyle promised if you become my PA,” I said, the words slipping out before I even realized how serious I was. Her eyes widened in disbelief. “Wow, seriously? But what about your current PA?” I let out a small laugh, though it was more of a scoff. “I don’t have a PA. I don’t trust easily, Anna. You’ll be the first. And as for the rest—I’ll have a designer fit you for work dresses. We’ll start on Monday. If you need money for your mom, just give me her account, and I’ll transfer it.” I turned to leave, but she caught me off guard. “Aren’t you interested in how much Kyle offered me? Or what the job was?” I stopped in my tracks, a smirk forming despite the situation. “Twenty thousand dollars to care for his sister and live in his house. So yes, I’ll pay you one hundred thousand if you become my PA. You won’t regret it.” She shook her head, still unsure. “Are you sure this is what you want? I mean, really?” I turned back to her, my gaze intense. “That’s nothing for me, Anna. You’re my woman, and my mother knows that. She expects much more from me for you.” She seemed to mull over my words for a moment before I added, “Look, I have to go now. There’s something urgent, but think about what I said. And avoid Kyle—don’t let him get in your head.” My hands landed on her shoulders briefly, a reassuring touch that I hoped would make her understand. I left without another word, my mind racing with the implications of what I had just offered. As I made my way to my office, I mindlinked with the doctor to meet me there. When I arrived, he was already present, waiting as expected. I handed him the precious gem. “This is it,” I said, and we moved forward. The portal opened with a soft hum, and we stepped through. The world on the other side was different—more chaotic, yet familiar. We quickly discovered that all the poison had been contained in the gem. Everything was too simple, too clean. It didn’t sit right with me. I knew something was off. My father’s illness, the gem—it all seemed too easy, too calculated. But there was no time to waste. My father would be fine in two days, tops. I needed answers, and fast. I made my way to the library and began searching for the Book of Life—an ancient tome that detailed the histories of all the magical families in our world. The pages turned slowly under my fingers, and then I found it. The Greg family—exiled by my grandfather. Why had they been erased from history? And more importantly, who was still out there from their bloodline? It couldn’t be. Was Anna really one of them? Her connection to that ancient family might explain a lot. But I couldn’t jump to conclusions just yet. There was someone I needed to meet—an old woman living alone, the last of the Gregs. I needed to find her before I made any decisions. After all, Anna wasn’t just any woman. She was my woman, and I wasn’t about to let anything or anyone come between us. Back at the mansion, I found Kyle still there, sitting far too comfortably at my dining table. I felt my patience wearing thin. Without a second thought, I walked over and stood next to Anna. “This is my place, next to my soon-to-be wife. I trust you’ll respect that,” I said, making it clear. Kyle mumbled something incoherent, but I wasn’t interested in hearing it. He moved to a different chair, and the tension in the room was palpable. My mother stayed silent, but Anna… Anna was still playing her part. She rolled her eyes at me, but I didn’t care. She was mine, and I was making damn sure everyone knew it.
