Chapter 3

921 Words
Skyler POV My immediate reaction caused the dog-man to stop advancing, and he backed away toward the entrance again. Its facial expression was full of disappointment and sadness. I couldn't understand, for the life of me, why this man-looking beast was sad. Just when I thought it was time for me to escape, another one came running up beside the man-wolf. This one had a feminine voice, and it was much gentler than the other. I screamed and backed myself up against a wall. Now there were two of them. Wolf people. She placed a hand on the shoulder of the other and looked at each other. My only guess was the other was female as the one that tried to reach out to me was male. He at least had on shorts with no top, but the female had on a nightgown. Her fur is off-white from head to toe except for her back, where I could see a mixture of gray, black, and red. This was insane! Where the hell was I?! I’m surrounded by dog people who would probably eat me or, worse. God only knows what else to me. I had to get out of here. I looked all around for an exit and saw my chance to leave behind me. I bolted towards the other end of the kitchen to get out of there. Anywhere was better than staying here. I’ll take my chances with the hungry dogs outside. I looked over my shoulder to see if I was being chased and, to my surprise, the two wolves were not running after me. I was more than thrilled but the second I thought I was out of the kitchen and their grasp, I smacked right into a wall. I could have sworn that there was another opening to this area that led to the living room and what I assumed was the front door. I guess I was mistaken. I hit the wall so hard that I fell on the floor with a thud. I was in a daze for a few seconds as I gathered my thoughts on what I should do now. Rubbing my head, I finally opened my eyes to see an enormous wolf-man standing in front of me. My mouth hung open in pure disbelief at the size of this guy. He was even bigger than the other one and his muscles were bulging. His fur was brownish-gray, and he had the most standout light gray eyes. This one was fully dressed and even had an ear-piercing. He had a sleeveless shirt and army pants. With arms folded, he glared down at me like some sort of escape convict. I backed away from him like a cat scattering from a spray bottle. I immediately went back to my original spot. I’m cornered! What do I do now? “Stay back. Don’t come any closer,” I warned. I knew my threats were about as empty as a crushed soda can, but I had to let them know somehow that no one was coming near me. Oh man, how could I have ended up in this situation? I shut my eyes tightly hoping that everything I had seen would vanish. The female was the first to get closer to me. She only walked a few inches and then knelt on my level like you would a child. Her sweet grin seemed genuine, and I could almost fall for it if it wasn’t for the large muscles on her as well. It seemed like all these wolf-people were extremely fit. What do they do, lift redwood trees for a living? The idea that these things could pick me up and toss me anywhere like a doll had crossed my mind, but I quickly shot it down. I found it hard to glance at the wolf woman. The wolf-lady put a hand on her chest and spoke very sweetly. “My name is Luna Zunda. And this is my husband, Alpha Ordovic. We found you in the forest yesterday morning and took you here to our house to take care of you.” She pointed to the brown wolf who was still wearing a sad look on his face, yet he attempted to smile. The tension in my shoulders started to relax, yet my anxiety was still at an all-time high. Yet, this wolf-person made the first move to introduce herself, and the least I could do was take her out. “That’s our Beta. Cole Underwood.” She gestured to the frightening-looking brown-gray wolf standing on the other side; arms still folded. I only glanced at this wolf guy, Cole, and from what I saw, the beast looked like he could maul me to death quickly. I gulped as the lump in my throat became tight. I’m not so sure if I like Cole. He seemed to make me the most uncomfortable out of all of them. “Now,” her smile grew even wider, “What’s your name, little one?” The female wolf surprised me with that question that I almost did not know how to answer. I had to remind myself that I was not an adult anymore and these were not normal people. I opened my mouth to say something but nothing came out. I felt a strange feeling in my chest as heavy as a boulder and my vision began to blur. I was so overwhelmed by seeing these wolves that I vomited in front of them and fainted.
