Hailey’s POV
“What is your name?” The guy, Chad asked me while the other stood behind him with the ghost of a smile dancing across his lips.
I looked up at them but said nothing. Deep down, I contemplated not answering them at all but one look at Hades had me opening my mouth immediately. I rushed out; “Hailey, my name is Hailey.”
“Beautiful name, Hailey,” Chad continued and this time, both Hades and the other man scoffed in disbelief.
“Brother, you never told us about a woman,” the other who had been quiet the entire time said, and while he did, his eyes never left my body even for once. “So who is she? And why does she smell like a rogue?”
The way they regarded me was so disrespectful; it was almost as if they had decided that I was not in the room with them even though I was, and it made me so uncomfortable that I stepped further away from them. If it was possible, I would’ve ran back into the bathroom but I couldn’t. Knowing how unfortunate I was, they would catch me even before I made it to the door of the bathroom.
Hades shrugged. He cast one dismissive glance at me before he turned back to the brother that had asked the question and said; “yeah, I didn’t mention her because she’s insignificant.”
Something about his words made my heart bleed. Unconsciously, I gasped, making all three men turn to look at me. Hades had anger swirling in his deep forest green eyes, as if hating me for interrupting by making a sound, while the other two stared at me with nothing but curiosity.
“She’s not a rogue though. I went for a meeting at an auction house and I saw that she was up for sale so I picked her. She’s nothing special.” Hades added, and trust me if I was heartbroken before, then hearing this rude statement from him made me even more shattered. I looked away from all of them as tears stung in my eyes, and to keep them from noticing, I dropped my gaze to the floor as if I was suddenly fascinated by the patterns on the marble floor.
“It appears to me that the belle disagrees.” The one who had introduced himself to me earlier as Chad pointed out with eyes dancing with amusement but obviously, Hades was having none of it as he frowned before e thrifting another disapproving look at me.
Right then and there, I wanted to disappear. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole. I began to think of several possible ways I could get out of this awkward situation. However, I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard someone say something. My ears perked up as the order one whom had been introduced as Trent said;
“So brother, can we touch her?”
I had no idea what he meant by that but it managed to make a fierce blush tint my cheek and burn my ears. I looked at the floor, desperate to distract myself with something but that was futile as the next thing Hades said had me recoiling in both anger and disgust.
He said; “Yeah sure. She’s all yours!”
A kind of rage that I had never felt before burned deep in my stomach as I squeezed my hands into fists by my sides and gnashed my teeth. I knew that if I didn’t hold myself back now, as soon as I opened my mouth, doom would befall me, so I kept my lips sealed, while I desperately prayed that they would leave me the hell alone.
If Hades was aware that he was hurting me, he didn’t show it as he stepped away from me and began to walk out of the room. Without sparing even a single glance at me, he muttered; “Would you guys come with me now or you’re so intrigued by the slave that you’ll remain there?”
Again, his words cut something deep in my soul but this time, I was careful enough not to let it show.
The two men stared intensely at me for a few seconds and after probably stripping me naked with their eyes, they turned and walked away as well, that is after I heard Chad say something along the lines of; “the slave is our mate too…!”
Upon hearing his words, a sudden shiver ran up my spine but deciding to taper it down, I turned away and walked toward the small wardrobe by the corner of the room. Pulling it open, I saw about four dresses in it, all of which were not my size. After realizing that it was either these clothes or I remained clad in a towel, I picked one and quickly threw it over my head.
Several minutes after they were gone, my heart still reeled. I was still so mad and deep down, I had already deduced that I couldn’t remain here. I’d rather die than be caught in this pack where these brothers saw me as nothing more than an object. I also wondered why Hades night me when it was obvious that he abhorred me, but pushing this thought to the back of my head, I began to think up other ways to get out of here.
It took me more than a few minutes in which I came up with a plan and with excitement gnawing at my insides, I picked up the small book showing all the contacts of the work staff in this place from the bedside table and rang the kitchen from the telephone close to it. Good enough, they picked up on the first ring and with a smile, I said; “I am the slave girl in the guest room and Alpha Hades asked me to tell you to bring his lunch up here.”
“Oh okay, I’ll be there in a minute.” She replied quickly before hanging up.
One thing I liked the most was how the woman didn’t question me. And with my smile still plastered across my face, I rubbed my hands together as I went to pick up the bedside lamp. I hated that I had to come to this but there were no other options.
With my ears perked up, I walked over to the door and lifted the lamp, waiting, and sure enough, a few minutes later, I heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps approaching.
Sure that it was her, I raised it above my head but just as the door was pushed open and I lunged, I instantly regretted it because she was not the one!
The lamp fell to the floor with a loud crash and my eyes widened as I came face to face with the angriest, stormiest green eyes I have ever seen.
“Hailey?” Hades barked, “what are you trying to do?”
Suddenly, my words failed me. I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t even bring myself to look into his eyes, afraid of what I might find there.
As if my nemesis wanted to catch up with me, the kitchen staff waltzed in at that moment and when Hades saw her with the tray of food, something akin to realization dawned on him. He gasped, that is before his eyes thinned into fierce slits. And I gasped.
