The next morning started early. Clay awoke in a troubled mood. For one thing he had not found time to talk to Stefan the previous evening, what with the Elves’ arrival and the speculation about the Trogues. Now he wished he had somehow managed to make the time.
He’d already decided that Stefan would again accompany him, but he’d introduced Gerta to an older pair of agents the previous evening. Nicky Dalton and Shel Slidell had been in on the take down of the alien cartel boss in Mexico with Alex and Manuel. Firmly settled in their personal as well as their official partnerships, Clay felt sure they’d take Gerta into their circle for the time being. They had a lot of know-how to teach the younger woman now. Gerta would be in good hands.
But he preferred to keep Stefan where he could watch
