“Urrrg” I woke up with Mia having a blowup.
“What’s wrong?”
“My hairdryer doesn’t want to switch on.”
“Here let me.” I offered, climbing out of bed. I can see f*****g frustration on her face and hope it’s the hairdryer and not because I’m here.
“There you go.”
“Thank you.” She quickly replied, not looking at me once. Before I could say anything else, the hairdryer sound booms through the room. Didn’t she f*****g do this last night? Yes, she did. Whenever she wants to avoid a conversation, she turns her hairdryer on.
“Mia?” I shouted, but she ignores my attempt to gain her attention.
“Mia, can you please switch off the hairdryer?” she still doesn’t respond until I throw my own tantrum and ripped the plug out.
“Seriously now?”
“Ow, now you can talk.”
“Why did you do that?” she picked up the plug and put it back into the wall, but it’s not switching on.
“You’ve ruined it.” She half screams.
“Are we talking about the hairdryer here?” I plot down on her bed, glaring at her while she tries to fix the hairdryer again.
“Yes, no, actually, about everything. You ruined everything.”
“Wow, I bet you were dying to get that f*****g out.” She shoots me with a murderous glare while I slide my pants on. I thought I had a breakthrough last night, but clearly, I f*****g didn’t.
“You know what Griffin, you coming here was just a mistake.”
“You invited me.” I challenge her back. I know I want her back, and I’ve missed her, but she’s pissing me off so early in the f*****g morning.
“Yeah, that was a mistake as well, so you can leave if you want to.”
I don’t want to leave, but I’m also not giving her the satisfaction of begging to stay. My phone kept buzzing on the table and Dawn’s name reflects on it.
“Oh look, it’s your partner in crime.” What a f**k is wrong with her today? I grab the phone before I let my temper gets the better of me.
“What?” I barked into the speaker.
“Griffin, are you still with Mia?”
“Yes, why?” I asked, confused.
“You need to get to the hospital with Mia. Martha asked for her to come with.”
“What’s going on?” I can feel anxiety taking over my entire body, it’s not time for the baby to come yet. I drop the call, and Mia looked confused at me.
“I know we’re not together, and I know you want nothing to do with me, but I need you to come with me to the hospital,” I asked, with my tail between my legs, I don’t know why Martha asks for her to go with, but I know it’s serious.
“Why?”
“Martha asked if you can go with me,” I admitted to the woman I love, that the girl I made pregnant, wants her to go to the hospital where my baby probably gets born today.
“I don’t want to Griffin.” pain reflects on her beautiful yet f*****g broken face again, something I’ve wished to never see again, but here I am, breaking her again.
“Okay, I will leave you fixing your hairdryer.”
“Griffin?” she called after when I was about to step out of the apartment.
“Yes?”
“Why do you think she asked for me?”
“I don’t know.” She stands in silence for a minute.
“Okay, I will go with you. Don’t know why I f****d such beautiful women up, even though I broke her, she still wants to be there for me. I nodded, and she pulled her hair in a ponytail before we left the apartment. Lucas is already waiting for me outside. The drive to the hospital is f*****g long, maybe because I don’t know what’s waiting for us, or me. I never meant for Mia to be part of this s**t again. We finally stopped at the hospital with Dawn waiting outside, looking like a f*****g ghost.
“What’s wrong?” I asked immediately when we approach her. Mia is not greeting her, and I don’t blame her. Dawn just nodded and turn her face towards me.
“Martha’s mother called while rushing Martha to the hospital. She started bleeding and the doctors are not sure if she will make it.”
“And the baby?”
“Griffin, did you f*****g hear me, I said Martha is not going to make it, do you even care?” I kept quiet, not sure how to respond to that question.
“They going to send her in for a c section now, but she asked for Mia before they do that.” Mia’s eyes are huge and her entire face pale, like someone just knocked the life out of her. And I can understand why. The women I made pregnant is asking for the woman I love and why in the world would she want to see Mia.
“Mia?” Dawn called out. It doesn’t look like she was taking in the conversation for the last 5minutes.
“You don’t have to, Mia,” I said, trying to ease the tension she’s feeling right now. f**k, even I can’t breathe. I was never ready to be a father, let alone so quickly.
“Take me to her,” she asks Dawn, and Dawn nodded in repeat. They both disappeared into the hospital leaving me outside to deal with all this f*****g emotions building like a mountain inside me. For the first time, I felt scared again, like I’m about to lose someone I love. The only time I ever felt like this was when Jocelyn died, and the day I found out my Mother is not my mother. I didn’t even feel so lost when Mia left, maybe because I always felt like she would somehow come back, or maybe because the reality of her not being in my life hasn’t sunk in yet. f**k! That’s all I could manage to say. I don’t even know if I’m allowed to be inside. I dragged my feet until I saw Dawn standing outside the hospital room. Mia is sitting by Martha’s bedside, holding her hand, tears streaming out of her beautiful eyes again. I can see Martha having a serious conversation with her.
“What are they talking about?” I ask Dawn, who looks scared.
“I don’t know, it must be serious if Mia is holding her hand.” What a f**k is happening here. My heart is racing, and I went into a full-blown panic attack. Hearing that the women of my child might not make surgery is scaring the s**t out of me, I don’t know how to be a father, let alone a f*****g Mother to a child I never even wanted, I still don’t know how to handle all this. Mia glared at me and Dawn standing outside. What a f**k is going on? I attempt to open the door. But Mia shook her head. What is Martha telling her? All these f*****g questions are killing me. I try again to open the door, but Dawn grabbed my hand before I could go in.
“What?” I said, is she f*****g serious now.
“Griffin, she asked for Mia to see her alone, we don’t know if she will make surgery. You made Martha’s life hell the last few months. For once let go of your control and let her have this.” I glared once more towards Mia and Martha, who still look like they’re having a breakdown before I pulled my arm out of Dawn’s grip.
“Fine.” I pulled a cup from the water dispenser and made it full. I’ve never had f*****g patience in my life. How the f**k must I just wait here outside?
“Griffin.” Martha’s mother is approaching me from behind. Looks like she cried a lot.
“Mrs, Gibson.” I nodded.
“What’s going on?” I ask, hoping she would tell me more.
“Martha’s womb tore, causing internal bleeding. They can’t stop the bleeding until the baby is born, and her entire womb is fractured. They don’t know if she would make it. I need to ask you something?” she looks frightened, and that scares the s**t out of me.
“If Martha doesn’t make it, please can I still see my grandchild?” did she seriously f*****g ask me this now, she doesn’t even know if Martha would make it or not, I don’t even know if I want to raise the child.
