“Alpha Terrence, you’re dumb for doing this! You’re sacrificing the members of the pack if you continue your plans!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, even though I knew he wouldn’t ever hear me. My heart beat rapidly as I started panting.

I didn’t know what would happen after tonight. I knew I had successfully changed my fate as Alpha Jaxon finally entered my life. I became confused about what probably might happen the next day, and I felt regret creeping into my heart.

I loved Alpha Terrence to the point that I ran away from my obligations of handling our land. My father disowned me in return as he disliked him to the point that he preferred to kill him. I was the only reason to stop him from his plans because I was important to him. Despite how stupid my decision was, my father wanted me to be happy and content with my life.

However, it showed that my father was right in his judgment of Alpha Terrence. I was the one who was too blind to notice how incompetent he was for his position. His father wouldn’t ever doubt him if he had seen his ability to handle his pack.

I remembered how his father talked to me, pleading with me to save his pack from Alpha Terrence's stupidity. He gave the pack to him because of me. He trusted me so much. I had promised him that I would do anything to save his pack, whatever circumstance might occur in my life.

I pledged to the moon goddess name that he could trust my words and I wasn’t the type of woman who wouldn’t take my words seriously. This pack was the result of his sweats, tiredness in his life. This was his treasure and his pack members.

As I looked around my surroundings, all I had seen was only darkness. This was the place where I was always put after Alpha Terrence successfully made me become a cripple. I was his ace, his lucky charm, which he didn’t want to lose whatever might happen.

I needed to escape this damn place, but I didn’t know how. I wished someone would help me.

Taking a breath, I stood up and checked the possible parts where I could use to be out from this place. As my eyes glowed, I recalled when I saw Karen coming here in this attic. She didn’t come back after that, which was too questionable for me.

I caught her, but I didn’t know how she did that. It was only the late Alpha who structured this pack house perfectly. Probably, he created a secret passage to ensure that most of the members could successfully escape from his pack after they got attacked.

“Luna?” A soft whisper, coming from the outside, startled me. It was Karen, and it looked like she was trying to check if I was alive in this attic. “Are you awake?”

“Karen, let me leave here!” I utter, as I rushed closer to the door to listen to her. She heavily sighed; I could hear how her heart beat as if she was too scared to be caught that she was around me.

“Don’t be scared, Luna. Alpha Jaxon will invade this pack tonight,” she whispered, her tone hushed, which gave me confusion in my head.

“Karen, you know how I vowed to protect this pack. I want to be out of here so Alpha Terrence will never do such stupid things. He doesn’t mind sacrificing his members just to let me stay in this damn pack.” I explained, trying to make her help me with whatever might happen.

“I know, that’s why I’m here. I will help you to leave this place as long as you do everything not to let him have you again.” Her words made me stunned as I felt the odd feelings coming from my chest. It had happened before, and I didn’t know if it was only familiar or not.

In the past, Karen didn’t bother to think twice about helping me. She risked her life just for me, so I could have peace, and left Alpha Terrence successfully. I didn’t know why she was doing this, but thinking how sorry she was, it made me guess that she had done something bad to me.

She was the one who helped me to escape before I got crippled, too. She wasn’t caught that time because she decided to hide from the tree because of fear.

“Karen, I want to know everything.” I finally had the courage to speak.

“What are you trying to say, Luna? I don’t understand.” Karen replied with confusion.

“Are you working with Greta?” I asked directly, causing her to be caught off-guard by my inquiries.

She was close to Greta. In fact, I always saw her being with her as if they were sisters by blood. Karen was like the obedient sister to Greta. I noticed her action when it came to her.

“Luna, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I noticed the hint of defensiveness coming from her tone, which led me to believe that my guess was right.

“You know what I’m trying to say to you, Karen.” I angrily snarled, making her breathing become aggressive. “I trust you like my sister, but working with Greta is the act of betrayal for me.”

“I will never betray my Luna. I know I have done wrong in my life, but I promise I will help you this time.” Karen said, pausing like she didn’t know what she would say to make me believe in her. “If I steal the keys, I’m sure they will notice you successfully escape, and someone helps you.”

She was right. In the past, Alpha Terrence successfully caught me when the Omega informed her about the keys. He was terrified that I would leave him, which led him to become more animalistic when it came to me. The feeling of getting crippled gave me a churned stomach.

“That’s why I will share with you how to leave that damn attic. What I want you to promise is you will divorce Alpha Terrence as soon as you can because he’s not the right man for you,” she added.

“I promise, I don’t want to be with him ever again. Help me this time, Karen. I swear that you will never regret helping me.” As I finally sighed in relief.

“Alright, listen to me. There’s a secret lock from the attic. It’s an emergency door. Check the book. You need to—

“Karen, what are you doing there?” Greta asked, making me flinch as if she finally caught me from leaving. “Alpha Terrence told us that no one could come closer to Luna Vina as long as she will never admit her mistakes, right?”

“Greta.” Karen’s tone was filled with disgust. “We both know she’s innocent.”

“We know, but it doesn’t change the fact that she humiliated our Alpha at their wedding anniversary party. Are you trying to say that you’re willing to betray your Alpha just for her?” Greta knew I was listening to her; I noticed how she was trying to insult me.

“Be careful with your words, Greta. Luna Vina did everything to protect this pack— Karen didn’t finish her words when the sound of the slap came.

“Guards, take Karen away from Luna Vina,” Greta yelled with hatred.

“Greta!” Karen shouted like she would lose her mind. I could hear the heavy stomp of her footsteps as if she was trying to restrain herself from the hold of the guards.

“I treat you as my friend. I’m doing this for your sake because I know you’re letting your emotion control you. As part of the Omegas, our loyalty is only for Alpha Terrence, not to his wife.” Greta muttered those words, like she was spitting some venom.

I had the hunch that she didn’t like what she was saying to Karen, but she was betrayed by her. I heard how Karen called my name, screaming it nonstop, but I didn’t bother to talk back.

Greta laughed cunningly, amazed at how Karen was trying to protect me, yet she failed this time. I heard how she slowly came closer to the door, caressed the metallic part.

“Luna Vina, you used to be so obedient to Alpha Terrence, yet you failed this time. You let me easily dispose of you,” she mumbled as anger rose through my chest.

“Greta.” Her name made me puke.

“I will let you see how Alpha Terrence will choose me over you. I’m the only woman he needs since you can’t even conceive his heir. That’s the least you can do for him, but you become useless.” She knocked on the metallic door, bursting into laughter as she lost her mind already. I heard the sound of the keys coming from the outside. “I will help you because I want you to divorce him as soon as possible. I don’t want to be the mistress of this pack anymore but a Luna, who replaces your position.”
