Chapter 16

The brewing storm had the entire Yonderville on edge. In the office of the Chief of the Yonderville Police Department sat Vincent's three uncles. Their expressions were cold and stern as they stared at Adrian.  Noah Roberts, who was in his fifties, said coldly, "Mr. Marshall, the Roberts family is planning a grand event. The area covered is shown on this map, and there will be around two thousand attendees. We expect the police to stay out of our territory starting now, especially on the day of the event. Also, if you hear any noises, such as gunshots or screams, wait until our event is over before responding. Otherwise, I can't guarantee there won't be other uncontrollable incidents." They were arrogant, rude, and even threatening. Adrian's face darkened. He slammed his hand on the table and shouted angrily, "Noah Roberts, this is the Yonderville Police Department, not the Roberts Villa! How dare you threaten me? Do you think I can't arrest you right now?" Adrian had never been this furious. The Roberts family was blatantly disregarding him, the Chief of the Yonderville Police Department. They were mocking the law! Noah sneered, "Mr. Marshall, don't forget, we have support from the Eastvale Military District. You'd better think carefully about whether you want to offend us. Besides, we're not doing anything illegal. We're just here to give you a friendly reminder. Hope you understand." With that, he walked out. As soon as the three men left, Adrian hurled his coffee cup to the floor and roared, "Outrageous! Absolutely outrageous! How dare they threaten me in my own office?" Just then, the SWAT team captain knocked on the door and asked, "Mr. Marshall, what's going on?" Adrian glanced at him and took a deep breath. His face was still stern. "Why are you here? Weren't you supposed to be guarding the villa? Did something happen with Jonathan?" The team captain looked troubled. "Nothing happened. I just wanted to ask, are we really going to ignore what's happening in the villa? Michael was taken in, and we could hear his screams from the gate. Shouldn't we..." "Just act as if you didn't hear anything. Don't intervene. This is beyond us. Even military leaders came personally. The Roberts family is seeking death!" Adrian snapped. The arrogance of the Roberts family reminded him that this was beyond his jurisdiction. He needed to consult the mayor. Grabbing his hat from the desk, he hurried out. Shortly after, Adrian arrived at Mayor Daniel Carter's office in his car. "Mr. Mayor, the Roberts family came to see me and demanded that my men stay out of their territory for the next few days. What should I do?" Adrian asked, standing behind Daniel with clenched fists. Daniel gazed out the window and replied with a serious expression, "They said the same thing to me, but you don't have to follow their orders. While the Roberts family holds some weight in Yonderville, the person they've angered this time is beyond their comprehension. You should know who Jonathan is by now, right? The higher-ups have instructed us not to intervene, so we won't. Have your men pretend to comply with the Roberts family and do nothing, but be ready to act if anything happens." "Who should I arrest?" Adrian asked. He knew the answer, but he needed confirmation from the mayor. "Of course, the Roberts family!" Daniel turned to Adrian. "Jonathan is the youngest five-star general of Novaria with outstanding achievements. The Roberts family is nothing more than ants to him. They should never have harmed a four-year-old girl. It's despicable! Especially since she is General Parker's daughter." "Understood!" Adrian responded loudly and quickly left the office. Daniel took a sip of water, looked out the window with a grave expression, and muttered, "A storm is coming." *** Inside the villa, Jonathan was sitting with Olivia on the balcony, keeping her company. Olivia kept grabbing Jonathan's hand. It seemed that she wanted to make up for the lost time over the past five years. Jonathan held her hand tightly and said with deep emotion, "Olivia, I'm sorry you had to suffer these five years. From now on, as long as I'm here, no one will ever bully you or Ruby again. Trust me." Olivia nodded, tears rolling down her cheeks. Then she nestled against Jonathan's chest and said softly, "Jonathan, thank you. Thank you for saving Ruby." Suddenly, she straightened up. Her face was full of worry and concern. "How did you come back? Didn't Elijah give you trouble? Were you hurt?" 'Elijah is the third most powerful man in the Roberts family. He is one of the four major gang leaders in Yonderville. He kills without mercy. How did Jonathan get out unscathed?' Olivia hadn't had much contact with Jonathan before. In the past five years, he had become more mysterious, and she couldn't see through him at all. Jonathan smiled and said, "Five years ago, I followed your advice, headed south, and joined the army. I've learned some combat skills in the military. Elijah and his thugs are no match for me. Don't worry. I'll handle the Roberts family. You just rest and take care of our daughter." Hearing this, Olivia breathed a sigh of relief but tightened her grip on Jonathan's hand. "Jonathan, I've thought about it. No matter what you did, maybe it's okay now, but the Roberts family won't just let it go. I'm going to ask for Grandpa's help. Only the Harrison family can help us turn the tide." She tried to get up, but the pain from the unhealed wounds in her shoulder and calf made her tremble, and she fell back into Jonathan's arms. Jonathan stared at Olivia, heartbroken. He wanted to say something but hesitated. There were too many things he couldn't explain, such as his current rank as a general or that he had resigned to destroy the Roberts family. Besides, the Harrison family was Olivia's home. Although their attitude toward her was frustrating, he didn't want Olivia to lose her family. No one could command Jonathan, who was a five-star general, except Olivia. Olivia's words were the only order for Jonathan. Since she wanted to go to the Harrison Villa, he nodded and said, "Okay, I'll take you there."
