"What? Yes, right away!" The butler dashed out. His face was pale with fear.
'I can't afford to delay. These people are from the military. They represent Colonel Wellington.'
Jonathan and Olivia were currently staying in a small cabin arranged by the Harrison family. It was originally a shed for horses and dogs and was hastily converted for human use. This was Sophia's doing. She was deliberately humiliating Olivia's family.
Unaware of the insult, Jonathan and Olivia were happily playing with Ruby inside. Their laughter echoed through the room. The butler panted heavily and shouted at the door, "Jonathan, Mr. Samuel Harrison wants you to come get the invitations."
Upon seeing the butler through the window, Jonathan's face turned cold. He responded calmly, "Tell him, I won't go unless he invites me personally."
Jonathan was a five-star general. He was revered by many. His wife was disrespected by the Harrison family. There was no way he would let this slide.
Olivia asked curiously, "What invitations?"
Jonathan didn't answer. He just smiled, held Ruby's little hands, and watched as she ran around the room. Olivia, worried that Ruby might fall, followed quickly. "Slow down."
Frustrated, the butler stormed off. He breathed heavily as he returned to the hall.
Samuel scowled and asked, "What happened? Where is Jonathan?"
The butler replied furiously, "Sir, Jonathan has gone mad. He said you have to invite him personally. Who does he think he is?"
"Damn it!" someone cursed. All the Harrison family members got furious.
"What? Has Jonathan lost his mind?"
"Colonel Wellington's men personally sent these invitations. They're enough for all of us to attend the banquet. This is a rare opportunity. And he refuses to come? Does he want to ruin us again?"
"Dad, you must teach Jonathan a lesson. Since his return, he's caused endless trouble. He's too arrogant!"
Samuel, though already furious, couldn't show it. He coldly ordered, "This is outrageous! You, go bring Jonathan here now!"
Suddenly, the second lieutenant spoke coldly, "How dare you! Colonel Wellington said Mr. Parker is his friend and must be treated with care. Are you trying to drag Mr. Parker here? I dare you!"
As he drew his gun, all the Harrison family members trembled in fear. They didn't expect a mere complaint to escalate into this.
"Please, calm down. What's going on? Jonathan is just a loser from the Parker family. The Parker family is gone, and he's now a hobo. How could he be Colonel Wellington's friend? Is there a mistake?" Samuel asked, bewildered.
"Heh," The second lieutenant sneered. "Watch your words! I don't want to hear any more disrespectful remarks about Mr. Parker. Colonel Wellington personally ordered us to deliver these invitations and hand them to Mr. Parker. Think carefully about what you do next."
Samuel, with his years of experience, quickly understood the situation.
"Let's go invite Jonathan." Samuel, leaning on his cane, led a group towards Jonathan and Olivia's cabin. When they arrived, Jonathan was teaching Ruby karate.
Olivia, who was cleaning, was startled. She thought they came to confront them over the previous incident. She quickly put down her tools, ran to Samuel, and bowed apologetically. "Grandpa, I'm sorry. It was Jonathan's fault. Please don't blame him."
Samuel's face turned pale. The second lieutenant was right behind them. If he found out how they had treated Jonathan, they'd be doomed. They couldn't afford to blame Jonathan. After all, he was Elliott's friend.
Samuel pushed Olivia aside and rushed to Jonathan. "Jonathan, go accept the invitations."
Jonathan frowned and looked at the crowd coldly. He replied discontentedly, "Look at all of you. Are you inviting me or threatening me?"
Samuel turned his head and shouted angrily, "Get out now!"
Though unhappy, the Harrison family complied. They knew the benefits of attending the banquet.
Once everyone had left, Samuel smiled at Jonathan and said, "Please, go accept the invitations. If Colonel Wellington blames us, we won’t be able to bear the consequences."
Jonathan snorted coldly and looked at Olivia. "Should I go, honey?"
Olivia was initially confused. As she listened to Samuel's explanation, she looked at Jonathan in surprise. "Did you really have boxes of invitations sent here?"
Jonathan shrugged and replied calmly, "Of course. I've never lied to you."
Olivia's eyes lit up with a rare gleam. Her face was right. She then turned to the Harrison family members outside and said, "See? My husband didn't lie to me."
Seeing Olivia's trust and pride in him, Jonathan found her endearing and felt indescribable joy.
"Olivia, please ask Jonathan to get the invitations. We can talk later, but let's get the cards first," Samuel pleaded.
Olivia still cared about the Harrison family. She nodded and looked at Jonathan. Jonathan picked up Ruby, walked past the crowd, and calmly accepted the invitations.
"Mr. Parker, our task is complete. We're leaving." The second lieutenant saluted Jonathan and swiftly left without another word.
Watching the military vehicle leave, the Harrison family breathed a sigh of relief. Samuel's forehead was drenched in sweat. He stumbled a couple of steps.
"Wait!" Jonathan, holding the invitations, coldly eyed the Harrison family. "I remember someone saying they would bow and apologize if I could get the invitations."
