Chapter 52

Hearing those words, everyone in the Harrison family hung their heads in shame. Just moments ago, they were humiliating Jonathan, but now they had to treat him with utmost respect. The drastic change in attitude made their faces flush red with embarrassment. Mark was furious. He stormed out of the crowd and shouted at Jonathan aggressively, "Who exactly are you? How can you be friends with Colonel Wellington? I don't believe it. You must have used some kind of trick." Mark was livid. 'Jonathan stole my thunder and shattered my pride. If word gets out that the loser from the Parker family has upstaged me, how would I ever show my face in Yonderville again?' "Heh, you're asking who I am?" Jonathan sneered. That sudden cold laugh sent a shiver down Mark's spine. He felt an indescribable sensation as if Jonathan was someone he could never hope to surpass. But that feeling vanished quickly. Jonathan ignored Mark, took Olivia's hand, and led her into the cabin. "Damn it! Acting all high and mighty? You must be playing some trick," Mark cursed under his breath, agitated. He exchanged a few hurried words with Samuel before leaving in a fury. The remaining Harrison family members were left in a daze. They whispered among themselves, "Who is Jonathan really? How could he possibly know Colonel Wellington? This is huge news." "Jagger, find out from Olivia what's going on. We need to understand the relationship between Jonathan and Colonel Wellington," Samuel said after a moment of hesitation and then led the Harrison family out. Jagger gave Jonathan a long, hard look before turning to Sally and Chad. The three of them reluctantly walked into the cabin together. But it wasn't long before Sally and Chad came storming out. They cursed under their breath, "Bloody hell! Turns out he just begged an old superior to help him. He’s a useless ex-soldier! How pathetic! He acts all high and mighty like he can rely on his old connections forever." Jagger sighed. The hint of respect he had just begun to feel for Jonathan vanished completely. The next evening, Jonathan's family stepped out of the cabin. Olivia was beautifully dressed, and Ruby wore a white princess dress. The Harrison family had hired several luxury vans to take them to the Yonderville Government Building for tonight's event. Everyone was eager to meet Colonel Elliott Wellington and scrambled to get into the vans. But Jonathan, Olivia, and Ruby were left standing outside. Sophia blocked their way and sneered, "What, do you think you can ride with us? Look at yourselves. It was just a fluke yesterday. You're still a nobody, Jonathan. Do you think you deserve to ride in these vans? Get a taxi!" With that, she ordered the driver to shut the door. The others laughed and mocked Jonathan and Olivia through the windows. "Look at them. So pathetic! I really feel sorry for them. Hahaha!" "A taxi? As if they'd find one that would believe their invitations are real. No one who can attend a banquet of this level would be without a car." "Let it go. They deserve this. No use talking. Let's go." The luxury vans drove off. Dejected, Olivia gazed at Jonathan and asked, "Jonathan, where's the jeep you usually drive? Can we use it now?" Jonathan smiled softly and put his arm around Olivia. "Don't worry. I've arranged for someone to pick us up." He playfully tapped Ruby on the nose and asked, "Ruby, would you like to ride in a really big vehicle tonight?" "Yes, Daddy!" Ruby cheered and clapped her hands in excitement. Jonathan made a quick call and spoke a few brief words. About five minutes later, the ground began to rumble. It felt like a minor earthquake. Olivia's heart skipped a beat as she saw long, green tank barrels emerging at the end of the road. She realized there were four tanks coming their way. The lead tank was decorated with flowers, while the other three followed in formation as escorts. The sight made pedestrians on both sides of the road stop and stare. "Oh my God! Am I seeing this right? Four tanks!" "Good Lord! What kind of emergency warrants four tanks?" "Look, they're heading towards the Harrison Villa!" The pedestrians were astonished. Olivia instinctively covered her mouth and trembled with excitement and fear. "Jonathan, are we really going to ride in that to the banquet?"
