"He's really an ignorant fool." Hearing Jonathan's bold response, the Harrison family members ridiculed him.
'This guy is too arrogant. Does he think it's that easy to secure a project? If even a hobo could secure it, it would be a huge embarrassment to the Harrison family.'
Samuel had initially wanted to use this as an excuse to get rid of Olivia, but now he just found it laughable. With a cold snort, he said, "Jonathan, Olivia said you just retired from the army. You must have left because you couldn't cope up. Look at you, you’re a penniless hobo! With no power and no connections, how can you even think of securing that project?
"Do you have any idea how many groups and families in Yonderville would kill to get their hands on that project left behind by the Roberts family? if you can secure the project within ten days, I'll allow Olivia to return to the Harrison family and acknowledge you as my grandson-in-law."
Despite his age, Samuel was still sharp-minded. He knew that securing even a part of the Roberts family's legacy would prove the Harrison family's capabilities and significantly boost their status. Moreover, if he acknowledged Jonathan as his grandson-in-law, it would cover up the old scandal involving Olivia.
After all, Olivia was still a part of the Harrison family. As a single mother, she would inevitably be a source of mockery, and it would ultimately affect the Harrison family's reputation. It was better to acknowledge Jonathan and shut everyone up.
In everyone's eyes, this task was impossible.
But Jonathan calmly said, "I don't need ten days. One day will suffice."
"Heh, the Harrison family can't even outbid everyone else in an open tender. To secure the project, you'd have to meet with Colonel Wellington personally. Do you know who he is? Even top families can't get an audience with him. Securing a letter of intent for cooperation from him is a pipe dream," Sophia sneered.
Olivia pleaded, "Grandpa, Jonathan has just returned. He doesn't know anyone. How can he secure any project?"
Samuel snorted, "That's his problem. Since he wants to protect you, this should be a trivial test for him. Otherwise, why should the Harrison family shield a bastard from the scrutiny of Yonderville?"
Olivia was close to despair. Tears welled up in her eyes. She was about to say more, but Jonathan interrupted her, "Olivia, trust me. I can secure the project."
"But..." Olivia's face was full of worry and anxiety.
"Heh, you can't secure anything," Chad said venomously. His broken arm still throbbed with pain, and he vowed to kill Jonathan someday.
"You're just a piece of trash!" Sally cursed, feeling sorry for Chad.
Mark, still grim-faced, was in no mood to stay any longer and spat at Jonathan, "Brat, just wait. I won't let you off."
With that, Mark left under everyone's gaze with Sophia rushing after him.
At that moment, two men entered the main hall carrying large boxes.
Thud!
The boxes hit the ground with a loud sound. One of the men stepped forward and handed a delivery receipt to Samuel. "Mr. Harrison, this is a birthday gift for you. Please sign for it."
"A birthday gift for me?" Samuel looked perplexed as the boxes were opened.
Instantly, the Harrison family members were stunned by the sight of the gifts inside. The boxes were filled with valuable items, with several gold bars on top shining brilliantly. Diamonds, platinum, and other precious jewels filled the box, and the other box was filled with bills. It had to be worth at least a million dollars.
"W-Who sent this?" Samuel asked the departing men. Gifts of such value had to come from a generous, wealthy person. The Harrison family had to connect with them.
Everyone in the Harrison family gazed at the gold bars, jewels, and cash in disbelief.
However, the delivery men, after glancing briefly at Jonathan, hurriedly left without saying a word.
"I arranged this for Olivia." Jonathan's calm voice drew everyone's attention.
"Did you send this?" Samuel was completely incredulous. "Do you think we're idiots? These precious gifts are hundreds of times more expensive than what Mr. Newton brought. How dare you impersonate the gift-giver?"
"Hahaha! He promises to secure the Roberts family's project and now claims these birthday gifts are from him. Shame on him!"
"Olivia is gullible. Jonathan is a loser and a liar. Otherwise, how could he have deceived Olivia into bed?"
Hearing these mocking voices, Olivia tugged at Jonathan's arm, whispering, "Jonathan, please stop talking."
Jonathan sighed. He knew that no matter how much proof he provided, it wouldn't matter. So, he didn't bother explaining further. Instead, he picked up Ruby, took Olivia's hand, and said, "The letter of intent for the cooperation will be delivered to the Harrison Villa tomorrow. I hope you won't regret your words."
With that, Jonathan left with Olivia and Ruby.
The Harrison family paid no attention to Jonathan's words. Instead, they focused on the valuable birthday gifts. Many wanted Samuel to distribute some of the gifts, but he coldly dismissed them and had the butler store everything away.

On their way home, Olivia had an emotional meltdown. She cried, "Jonathan, I'm sorry. They aren't targeting you on purpose. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have come."
Jonathan held her hand and said, "No need to apologize. I don't care about their opinions. Rest assured, I'll find a way for you to return to the Harrison family."
"But that's the Roberts family's project. They said it's in the hands of a colonel. We don't know him. How will we secure the project?" Olivia sighed, feeling completely hopeless.
Jonathan smiled, "Don't worry. I have some friends in the Yonderville military. I can ask for their help. Securing such a project shouldn't be difficult."
"Really?" Hope stirred in Olivia's heart, as Jonathan hadn't broken any promises these past few days.
Jonathan nodded and then escorted Olivia back.
However, Olivia suddenly remembered that night at the Roberts Villa. She couldn't help but connect the dots and ask curiously, "You have friends in the Yonderville military? So... was the downfall of the Roberts family related to you?"
