Nicolas was visibly worried. "Mr. Parker, you might not know who Mason is. He's a notorious psychopath and hitman in this area. He has hundreds of henchmen and has spent time in prison. He knows a lot of gang members. Every factory around here pays him protection money. Nobody dares to call the police. You hit his men today, he won't let this slide easily. Maybe you and Mrs. Parker should leave. If you're not here, Mason probably won't bother us."
Olivia gasped and interjected, "Mr. Patton, we can't just leave. This has already happened. I'll face it and resolve it."
She turned to Jonathan and said, "Jonathan, you should go. They won't mess with me much, and if they do, I'll call the police."
Jonathan chuckled and shrugged. "Didn't you hear what Mr. Patton said? If calling the police worked, these people wouldn't be so brazen. I hit their guys, so I'll stay. You go help them clean up."
"But..." Olivia wanted to protest, but Jonathan gently pushed her away.
As Olivia left, Jonathan's face turned grim. He thought for a moment and pulled out his phone to call Adrian. Elliott had given him this number for emergencies.
Jonathan spoke in a cold tone, "Mr. Marshall, did you know there's an area in Yonderville where thuggery and threats are a daily occurrence? Oh, right, you probably didn't. You guys seem clueless."
At that moment, Adrian was in a meeting at the police station. He was surrounded by precinct chiefs and captains.
These people represented the law enforcement strength of Yonderville. Adrian was seated at the head. He looked respectful and fearful as he spoke on the phone, "Mr. Parker, there must be some misunderstanding."
"The Harrison family's factory got wrecked by a guy named Mason Shelton," Jonathan stated plainly before hanging up.
Adrian only put his phone down after confirming Jonathan had ended the call.
He stood up abruptly, slammed the table with anger, and roared to the dozen other officers, "I just found out Yonderville's security is apparently a joke. Who's responsible for the Willow District?"
Kevin Gray, the precinct chief for the Willow District, stood up hastily with a pale face. "Mr. Marshall, that's my jurisdiction."
No one had expected Adrian to erupt like this.
"Do you know a guy named Mason Shelton?" Adrian glared at Kevin as if ready to tear him apart. Jonathan's anger could cost him his job.
Kevin sweated and stammered nervously, "Mr. Marshall, I'm not sure. Let me check."
Kevin was panicking. He usually had a pile of complex issues to deal with daily, and naturally, lower-ranked matters were handled by his subordinates. He dialed a number and barked, "Get me everything on a guy named Mason Shelton. I need it immediately!"
Over at the Willow District Police Station, one officer received Kevin's call and nodded furiously. "Yes, sir. Right away."
After hanging up, this officer started trembling. He had never heard Kevin this angry.
Mason Shelton? The name rang a bell. He stepped out and shouted to the team, "Drop everything. We need every detail on Mason Shelton right now. You've got five minutes."
"Understood!" The officers scrambled into action.
Meanwhile, back in the meeting, Adrian was anxiously waiting for Kevin's response. Sweat poured down his face. Though only Kevin was scolded, everyone else was also worried and curious.
"Mr. Marshall, what's happening? Why are you so angry? Who called you today?" a brave officer inquired.
Adrian turned, glared at the room, and huffed, "Angry? I'm scared. Before that person, I'm a nobody. One word from him, and Yonderville could vanish. Even high-ranking military officers and the mayor are insignificant to him. Did you all forget the downfall of the Roberts family? That was his doing. And now his wife's factory in the Willow District got attacked by thugs. Kevin, do you want to die? You worthless i***t! Is this how you ensure community safety?"
Kevin felt his knees buckle. He couldn't imagine that even Adrian was considered a nobody before that person.
The downfall of the Roberts family was well-known, but the classified specifics were secrets.
However, they knew that it was above their reach. Some had heard that Imperial Tower agents had taken over the case and secured all related files.
Who could this be? Was it someone from Havencrest? High-ranking officials and low-ranking officers alike speculated with no clear answers.
Suddenly, Kevin's phone rang, and he quickly answered, "Found him?"
"Yes, sir," replied his officer.
Mason Shelton was a well-known gang leader in the Willow District. He had hundreds of followers and controlled many entertainment and gambling venues.
Most importantly, he was backed by Yonderville's top gangster, Dorian Campbell.
Adrian slammed the table and roared, "I don't care who's backing him. Lead a team and guard the factory. If Mason shows up, arrest him and anyone with him."
Kevin nodded vigorously and rushed out. In his car, he called the officer again and barked orders, "Assemble the team and head to the Harrison family's factory now. I'll be right there. If Mason shows up, arrest him. Bring everyone and perform this task with high visibility. If anyone resists, shoot and kill that person!"
