Chapter 30

841 Words
"Jonathan! Why?! Why did you come back?! Why couldn't you just disappear forever?!" Bethany screamed at Jonathan's retreating figure and collapsed to her knees, her face blank and lifeless. Jonathan's final words had terrified her to the core. Moments later, Bethany remembered Ethan and hurried over to him, trying to sound concerned. "Ethan, are you okay? I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. It's all my fault. I..." Slap! Ethan struck her face hard, his voice filled with rage. "b***h! The Cameron family won't let this go!" With that, Ethan clutched his injured wrist and left with his men. "Jonathan... Jonathan! Damn you! You've ruined everything! I hate you! I hate you!" Bethany screamed, crumpling on the ground. She knew Ethan blamed her for everything that had just happened. She pounded the ground in anguish and cried out to the heavens. That night, the news of Bethany's engagement party being ruined by Jonathan spread like wildfire across Yonderville. Countless people began to speculate about Jonathan's identity! Many refused to believe he was the loser from years ago. Some even suspected that he was a hired avenger. But these were just rumors. Most people believed that Jonathan was incredibly skilled and exuded a powerful presence, yet without a solid background, he was considered a nobody against the big families. Consequently, the elite families of Yonderville looked down on Jonathan even more. In this changing era, brute strength could no longer solve all problems. Their disdain for the Stewart family grew, as they couldn't even handle a mere loser who had disappeared for five years. It was a huge embarrassment for Yonderville's nobility! That very night, the Cameron family canceled their engagement with the Stewart family! This decision caused quite a stir. The Stewart family plunged into turmoil. Many business partners severed ties with them overnight! The Stewart family's status plummeted from the top tier in Yonderville to barely notable. Jonathan, however, paid no attention to the chaos. He had returned to the villa and was carefully carrying a bowl of soup. He gently brought a spoon to Olivia's lips, his eyes full of concern as he watched her drink. Olivia looked at Jonathan, her face beaming with happiness. She felt incredibly safe with him! But then she sighed, "Jonathan, do you think Ruby's eyes can really be cured?" The thought of Ruby potentially being blind for life filled her with immense guilt. Jonathan set the bowl aside and tucked her in with a smile, "The chances are slim, but there is still hope. The doctors have found a solution, but it will take some time. Don't worry. Ruby is my daughter. I won't let her remain blind. I will cure her at any cost." Holding Olivia's small hand, Jonathan looked into her eyes with deep affection. Olivia, feeling shy, quickly pulled the covers over her face. "Mmm, I believe you." At that moment, Jonathan took out an invitation card and handed it to Olivia. "Here's a gift for you." Olivia peeked out curiously and, with Jonathan's help, sat up to open the invitation. Upon seeing the contents, she trembled with excitement, and tears streamed down her face. It was an invitation to the Harrison family's birthday banquet! "Jonathan, is this real? Is this Grandpa's birthday invitation? Does he want me to come back for his birthday?! I haven't been back to the Harrison Villa for five years! Grandpa still loves me. He still loves me!" Olivia remembered that Jonathan had promised to help her return home, but she didn't expect it to happen so quickly. She eagerly tried to get out of bed, but Jonathan stopped her. "Take it easy. The banquet is tomorrow. Just lie down. The doctor said your wound hasn't healed fully. If you aggravate it, you won't make it to the banquet." Olivia calmed down, but her excitement only grew more. Jonathan watched her, feeling a pang of sadness. Olivia had been banished from the Harrison family for five years. She had endured countless hardships. She must have missed the Harrison family deeply to react like this. This silly woman was always so kind-hearted. "Thank you, Jonathan!" Suddenly, Olivia threw herself into Jonathan's arms and hugged him tightly. Jonathan, caught off guard, blushed and sat stiffly, his hands awkwardly hovering in the air. After a few seconds, Olivia pulled away, her face red. The two of them, despite having shared an intimate moment years ago, still found hugging each other strange. "By the way, where did you get this invitation? Did Grandpa send it?" Olivia asked, clearing her throat. She couldn't believe the Harrison family would send her an invitation, especially after Samuel's cold and resolute attitude a few days ago, which had left her hopeless. Now, this invitation made Olivia both suspicious and curious about Jonathan's true identity. He had given her so many surprises since he appeared. 'What happened to Jonathan over the past five years? He could never have achieved this five years ago!' Jonathan smiled mysteriously and patted Olivia's head. "Do you really want to know?"
