Chapter 63

865 Words
Jonathan felt bewildered. He had made it clear that his identity should remain a secret. However, Elliott sent his men to the Harrison Villa and gave him a medal. Despite his confusion, Jonathan accepted it without hesitation. The second lieutenant turned to Olivia with a serious expression. "Mrs. Parker, is there anything else you need me to handle?" Olivia was taken aback and glanced nervously at Samuel. "Thank you for your kindness. But, after thinking it over, I realize my capabilities are limited. Family should work together to achieve things. So, can my cousin join the project too?" Olivia asked, hoping to maintain family harmony. Olivia's kind words sounded like charity to Sophia and made her uncomfortable. But she dared not speak up. The second lieutenant frowned and looked at Sophia. After a moment of hesitation, he said, "I have no objections. You're the person in charge of this partnership. You can include whoever you want." Hearing this, Declan and Maeve were secretly pleased for Sophia. The second lieutenant gave Samuel and the others a cold stare as if issuing a warning. Then he left the Harrison Villa with his men. The Harrison family breathed a sigh of relief but still eyed Jonathan warily. 'How does this loser keep getting help from Elliott? Is he really just a retired soldier?' "Jonathan, what's your relationship with Colonel Wellington? And this medal..." Samuel couldn't hold back his curiosity. Just then, Jagger, Sally, and Chad arrived. Everyone stared at Jonathan, waiting for an explanation. Jonathan smiled faintly. "Protecting the country and fighting the enemy is an honor. Many of my comrades received this medal. Elliott is more capable than me. He rose quickly to colonel, while I chose to retire." With that, he took Olivia's hand and left. The others exchanged glances, each lost in their thoughts. 'So, Jonathan is just using his connection with Elliott. This kind of favor won't last long.' Sophia felt even more frustrated. She was convinced that today's loss was due to bad luck. She stamped her foot and shouted, "I don't need that b***h's charity!" Samuel glared at her coldly. "Shut up! Haven't you embarrassed yourself enough today? You'll have to follow Olivia's lead from now on. Moreover, supervise her closely. If you notice any issues, report them to me immediately." With that, Samuel walked away, leaning on his cane. Meanwhile, Jonathan and Olivia returned home. Sally and Chad followed them with ingratiating smiles. "Olivia, the partnership is finally settled. How about giving Chad a decent position? After all, he is your brother," Sally smiled obsequiously. Chad grinned, "Olivia, you must find a role for me in this project." Olivia looked troubled. Even though the second lieutenant had said she had the authority, she glanced at Jonathan hesitantly. After a while, just as Olivia was about to agree, Jonathan spoke coldly, "Olivia can find you a position, but you must apologize to her for your previous actions." Sally's and Chad's faces turned livid at once. To them, Jonathan was just a temporary high-flyer, relying on favors. They wouldn't listen to him now. "Jonathan, it's none of your business. I'm talking to my daughter. Get lost!" Sally snapped and pushed Jonathan. Jonathan stood firm, his gaze icy. "Have you forgotten the second lieutenant's words?" Though Sally knew this was temporary, the memory of the second lieutenant with his armed soldiers sent a shiver down her spine. She stepped back in fear. Chad supported Sally and yelled at Jonathan, "Who do you think you are? You can’t scare us with the second lieutenant! You're just a retired soldier. The second lieutenant might help you twice, but not always. This is the Harrison family. If you want to stay here, you'd better behave!" "Behave!" Sally echoed, emboldened by Chad. Jonathan's eyes turned colder. He prepared to act, but Olivia grabbed his arm and shook her head in resignation. She turned to Sally and Chad and said, "Mom, Chad, please go back. I'll take care of this." Hearing Olivia agree, Sally snorted. She knew it would work. "Olivia, you'd better hurry up. Chad's career is on the rise. He might become the Harrison Group's marketing manager someday. Then you'll need his help. Giving him a job now is also paving a road for yourself. I hope you understand that." Chad smirked arrogantly, adjusted his suit, and left with Sally as if Olivia's help was a given. Jonathan sighed deeply. "Chad is not very competent. I hear he screwed up several projects but kept it quiet. Do you really want him in this partnership?" Olivia hesitated but whispered, "But he is my brother." Jonathan said nothing more and went to play with Ruby. The next day, Olivia stayed home preparing project materials. Jonathan took Ruby out to buy household items. Their cabin was sparsely furnished and needed to be decorated. At a home furnishing market, Jonathan bought many items and arranged for them to be delivered to the Harrison Villa. As Jonathan was about to leave, an unfriendly voice called out from behind. "Well, well, if it isn't Jonathan! My God, I thought you died five years ago. I didn't expect to see you back in Yonderville."
