The voice carried a tone of mockery, disdain, arrogance, and smugness.
Jonathan stopped and turned to see a handsome face. The man was dressed in a navy blue suit and was followed by four bodyguards in sunglasses.
"Haha, it really is you! I thought I was mistaken. Oh, is this your daughter? Wait, she looks like Olivia Harrison's little bastard. Oh, right, I heard a rumor. Did you marry into the Harrison family?" The young, handsome man smirked and reached out to pinch Ruby's cheek, but she backed away.
Jonathan frowned. He recognized the man as Wayne Preston, the heir of the Preston family in Yonderville. The Preston family was one of the top three families in the local home furnishing industry in Yonderville. They were wealthy with assets in the billions. Back when the Parker family was powerful, Wayne used to follow Jonathan around and curry favor.
But after the downfall of the Parker family, the Preston family cut ties with them completely. It was clear that Wayne's previous efforts to get close to Jonathan were just because of the Parker family's influence. Now, the tables had turned. Wayne was the heir of the Preston family, and Jonathan was nothing more than a hobo. Wayne's long-hidden resentment flared up at that moment.
"What do you want?" Jonathan asked coldly.
Wayne, with his hands in his pockets, stared at Jonathan provocatively. "Not much, really. I’m just amazed at how fair life is. The former heir of the Parker family is now nothing but a hobo and relies on the Harrison family. How pathetic! Are you shopping? Why didn't you tell me? This entire floor is my family's property. If you lick my shoes now, I'll let you have whatever you want for free. How's that for a deal?"
Jonathan wasn't surprised. Wayne had always been arrogant. He replied coldly, "Wayne, you haven't changed at all. You're still as disgusting as ever." With that, Jonathan turned to leave. He didn't want to waste any more time.
Hearing this, Wayne got angry. "Who said you could leave?"
At his command, the four bodyguards stepped forward and surrounded Jonathan.
Jonathan frowned and turned to Wayne. "What do you want?"
Wayne chuckled, stepped closer, and glared at Jonathan. "Lick my shoes, and you can go. Otherwise, you won't leave today."
He laughed out loud. "How does that feel? Humiliating, right? But that's reality. I'm the heir of the Preston family, and you're nothing but a hobo. You used to rely on the Parker family. Now, the Parker family is gone. Hahaha!"
"So, do you think you and your family are powerful?" Jonathan sneered.
Wayne's eyes narrowed in anger. "Jonathan, don't get cocky. You're no longer the heir of the Parker family. Now you're just a loser. What do you have to compete with me? Even if I cripple you now, no one will care. You'd better lick my shoes right now, or I won't guarantee your daughter's safety."
Jonathan got furious. He hated threats, especially those targeting his daughter. The Harrison family threatened Olivia, and now Wayne was threatening Ruby and insulting her as a bastard.
"Wayne, you have two choices now: bow and apologize, or prepare for the demise of the Preston family," Jonathan said coldly.
"Hahaha!" Wayne laughed. "What did you just say? Jonathan, are you kidding me? You have nothing! You're insane!"
Then he ordered, "Why are you standing there? Beat him until he submits!"
The four bodyguards swung their fists at Jonathan.
Jonathan's eyes narrowed, and a cold fury rose. With Ruby scared in his arms, he struck back.
Bang!
In an instant, the four bodyguards were sent flying.
Wayne's eyes twitched at the sight, but he didn't back down. He pulled out his phone and shouted angrily, "Get over here now, armed!"
Suddenly, over a hundred armed men with baseball bats flooded the floor. Some were market staff, and others were Wayne's hired thugs, including local gang members and recently released convicts.
In no time, the entire floor was sealed off, and every entry and exit were blocked.
Jonathan and Ruby were trapped.
