Forced Marriage: The Commander's Wife: Episode 1

1581 Words
“General Smith!” Lucas shouted, his voice filled with anger. “Wasn’t it agreed that after this war, you would marry me to Luna? Why are you forcing me to marry your… illegitimate daughter?” The General rose abruptly from his chair, his eyes flashing with fury. “What did you just say?” His voice thundered across the room. “‘Illegitimate daughter’? Is that what you call my child—who is now your wife?” Lucas stiffened, but his anger did not waver. “Watch your words,” the General warned coldly. “Or you may lose not only this marriage… but your title as well.” With that, the General stormed out of the office, leaving Lucas standing alone, his hands clenched in rage. The wedding of Lucas and Raven was completed without celebration. There were no smiles. No laughter. No joy. Only duty and obligation bound them together. After the ceremony, they were escorted to a grand estate—a lavish gift from Raven’s father. In the Master Bedroom “I have no intention of sharing a bed with a woman like you,” Lucas said coldly as he removed his shoes. “Find somewhere else to sleep.” Raven remained calm, completely unfazed by his hostility. “As if I would want to sleep beside you,” she shot back sharply. She turned, casting him a piercing glare before walking out of the room without another word. And so, under the same roof, their marriage began—not with love, but with anger, unhealed wounds, and secrets waiting to surface. RAVEN'S POV Hi. I’m Lieutenant Raven Blackwell of the Arcovo Army Special Forces. I carry three stars on my shoulders, and I am the eldest daughter of the Blackwell family. Correction—I am not an illegitimate child. I am General Blackwell’s legitimate daughter. My mother died shortly after giving birth to me. Because of that, my father devoted himself entirely to raising me properly. Later on, Luna’s mother entered the picture—my half-sister’s mother. But my father and Luna’s mother were never married. When Luna was born, her mother took on the role of raising me as well. Luna and I grew up getting along just fine. There has never been any conflict between us. What I don’t understand is why I’m the one who was married off. I was only visiting my father. And yet… here I am now—married to the man who was supposed to marry Luna. I woke up early for a jog. It has been my daily routine for years. After finishing, I prepared breakfast and grabbed my laptop to check emails and other matters. While I was browsing, I noticed Lucas coming downstairs. I almost forgot… I’m married to that fool now. I saw the look on his face when he saw me. “Why do you look like you’ve just seen a ghost?” I asked without looking up from my laptop. “Is this your first time seeing a beautiful ghost?” he replied, glancing at me. “A beautiful ghost,” he repeated with a teasing smile as he walked toward the kitchen. “For me, the only beautiful ghost is Luna. No one else.” In my head, I seriously considered throwing my laptop at him. He was unbelievably arrogant. Instead, I chose to ignore him and focused on my work. Since he was granted a one-month leave, I was also placed on leave—apparently because we were newly married. There wasn’t much I could do about it. While I was concentrating on my tasks, my father arrived to check on us. “How are the two of you?” he asked calmly, though there was a hint of concern in his voice. “We’re doing well, Dad,” I answered immediately. “And you, Lucas?” my father continued, turning to him. “How was your first night with my daughter?” “How was your first night with my daughter, Commander?” the General asked calmly. Lucas straightened. “It was… proper, Sir.” I kept my expression neutral. "By the way Lucas, we are not at the office or camp you can call me, Dad since your my son-in-law now." The General said to him. "Sir, yes! Sir, I mean Dad." Lucas said. The General studied us both carefully, but he said nothing more. After a few reminders about reputation and discipline, he eventually left the house. The moment the door closed, Lucas exhaled sharply. “You didn’t tell him we didn’t share a room,” he said coldly. “There was no need,” I replied calmly, still focused on my laptop. He let out a short, humorless laugh. “Of course. You wouldn’t want to lose your comfortable life.” Comfortable life? If only he knew. “You think I asked for this?” he continued. “You replaced Luna without hesitation.” I slowly lifted my gaze at him. “I replaced no one,” I answered evenly. “I simply followed orders.” He scoffed. “Convenient.” He turned away, grabbing a cup of coffee from the counter. To him, I was nothing more than the General’s daughter who benefited from power. He didn’t know about the years of training. The missions. The blood. The rank I earned without ever using my family name. He didn’t know that while he was fighting on one battlefield, I was fighting on another. And he certainly didn’t know that my three stars were not handed to me. They were earned. Later that morning, Lucas received a call. His expression immediately shifted into that of a commander—serious and alert. “There’s movement in the northern sector?” he said into the phone. “I’m on leave.” A pause. “Fine. I’ll assess it remotely.” When he ended the call, frustration was clear on his face. “Trouble?” I asked casually. “That’s classified,” he replied sharply. I simply nodded and returned to my screen. If he only knew that I had already received the same report thirty minutes earlier. And that my unit had already secured the perimeter. But I said nothing. Because to him— I was just Raven. The unwanted bride. The substitute. That evening, as he stood by the window reviewing files, he spoke without turning to face me. “You don’t ask questions.” “About what?” “About the war. About my missions. About anything.” I leaned back in my chair. “Would you answer if I did?” Silence. He didn’t. “I thought so,” I said calmly. What Lucas didn’t realize was this— I wasn’t uninterested. I simply didn’t need to ask. Because of the information he guarded so tightly… I already had access to. For now, I would let him believe I was just a woman forced into marriage. Let him underestimate me. Because someday— When the truth surfaces— Commander Lucas Smith will finally understand that the woman he dismissed… was never weak. And never the second choice. That night, the house was unusually quiet. Lucas sat across from me in the living room, a glass of whiskey in his hand, his sharp eyes studying me as if I were a puzzle he couldn’t solve. “You wake up early. You train. You move like someone disciplined,” he finally said. I didn’t look up from the book I was holding. “Is that a question, Commander?” “It’s an observation,” he replied coolly. “What exactly do you do, Raven?” There it was. I closed the book slowly and met his gaze. “I work,” I answered simply. His jaw tightened slightly. “I’m aware of that. I’m asking what kind of work.” For a brief second, I considered telling him the truth. Lieutenant. Special Forces. Three stars earned in silence. But instead, I offered him a calm, almost bored expression. “I assist with administrative matters for my father,” I said smoothly. “Paperwork. Logistics. Schedules. Nothing exciting.” He stared at me, clearly unimpressed. “So you’re basically a secretary.” “If that helps you sleep better at night,” I replied lightly. A faint smirk appeared on his face. “I knew it. You don’t look like someone who’s seen real combat.” The irony almost made me laugh. If only he knew how many battlefields I had walked through. “How disappointing,” he added. “I thought the General’s daughter would at least have some spine.” I stood up calmly, placing my book on the table. “Not everyone needs to prove themselves loudly, Commander,” I said softly. “Some people prefer to work quietly.” He watched me carefully. “You don’t seem offended.” “Should I be?” He didn’t answer. Instead, he leaned back against the couch, still observing me. “You’re strange,” he muttered. Maybe. Or maybe he was simply looking at me the wrong way. As I walked toward the hallway, I allowed myself the smallest smile—one he couldn’t see. Let him believe I was nothing more than a woman hiding behind her father’s name. Let him underestimate me. Because when the day comes, he sees who I truly am… It won’t be me who’s shocked. It will be Commander Lucas Smith.
