XLVI: Hostage

The young man smiled and nodded as if killing his own father was not a big deal. In fact, it was like he wanted to celebrate.

Seraphim watched him walk away before shaking her head. Vampires were really complicated creatures.

Unbeknownst to them, when the young man was out of their view, he opened his clenched hand, and there were the distinct ashes of a fallen vampire. He held on to the ashes as he held it upwards as if showing it to the sky.

As he did, he shed a couple more tears and muttered with a helpless smile, “Mother, see this bastard’s remain? I already did. I really hope you can rest now.”

And with those words, he continued to leave.

Edith tried to contact Eleanor, but none were successful when leaving the cave they saw her. She was in the arms of Joshua’s pack.

Gerald looked at the wolf with a grin. He then said, “I think this girl is yours, Joshua.”

Joshua roared loudly and was about to attack when one of Gerard’s men put his claw on the girl’s neck and said, “If I were you... I wouldn’t move!”

Edith glared at them. Who would have thought that Eleanor would become a hostage one day?

Joshua looked him straight in the eye and taking a deep breath, and he looked like one of the murderers of his father was moving towards him.

Joshua, Edith, and the rest left the cave. After defeating the ancient, all the vampires that he had created disappeared, and they could finally feel the true victory. Joshua, however, could feel they were warning him of something else.

As they came out of the cave, rain clouds gathered around them, and the young people could see how five werewolves were holding Eleanor while they waited for them to leave the cave.

When Joshua saw them, he felt anger growing inside him. The traitors appeared in front of him. Before his mind was destroyed, he was having trouble accepting who it was, but thanks to Edith, he was able to compose himself.

The sorrow for not being able to help his father still tormented him, but now he knew perfectly well who was responsible for that terrible calamity.

Looking at the men in front of him, especially Gerard, who was smiling, he firmly demanded, “Let her go!”

The wolves felt the weight of that command, including Gerard, who could feel the influence of the true alpha pressing on him, but shaking off that need, he stared at him and said, “You cannot use the alpha’s will without the ritual, Joshua. For now, you are just one more member of the pack!”

Joshua descended from the cave with the two witches behind him. One of Gerard’s men pointed his sharp claw at Eleonor’s neck, and Seraphim and Edith looked at him with anger.

Joshua looked at the young woman and said, “I’ll put it this way!”

After saying that, he handed his spear to Seraphim and started moving forward.

“If you hurt that woman! Each and every one of you will die in this instant!” Joshua added.

All the wolves in that place, with the exception of Gerard, were intimidated by that answer, and the truth was that none of them was a match for Joshua.

Only Gerard was the one who could face him, and many of them believed that the power of the son of the new alpha would not be enough.

Gerard maintained eye contact, and without losing his smile, he said, “Do you want a leadership duel? Because I can grant you that!”

Joshua smiled and looked at him arrogantly, then he said, “You don’t have the strength for a leadership duel!”

The wolf approached Joshua, and even though they had a similar height, Joshua was much wider.

“If this bastard moves, cut the girl’s throat!” Gerard said while looking at him with a smug smile.

Edith and Seraphim were on guard, but Joshua opened the palm of his hand to stop them, he did not lose his smile, and Gerard threw a very strong punch against the man. Joshua didn’t dodge, he met him head-on, and his lip broke as he bled and stepped back.

The rain kept falling. The blood that Joshua had spat out was on the ground mixing with the dirt and the rain, and Joshua seeing it, said, “Both your father and you want power?”

Joshua shook his head before he added, “Why don’t you take your followers and leave?”

Gerard didn’t understand the change in Joshua’s attitude, something inside him was clearly different, and now the wolf seemed more like an Alpha than ever. This bothered him. It made his blood boil.

His need to be better took hold of him and hitting him again, and he roared like a maniac, “Bleed Alpha, bleed!!”

Joshua received each impact without moving, and all the blows landed on his stomach and on his face. And Joshua did not move a millimeter to avoid the impact when Gerard transformed into a huge wolf, took Joshua’s neck.

While looking at Joshua with hatred, he asked, “Are you ready to die, Alpha?!”

The wolves behind Gerard did not approve of that behavior.

Seth, who was watching helplessly, said in anguish, “Stop! That is not right!”

Gerard turned to see him with a murderous look and said, “Shut your mouth, brat!!”

Gerard looked to the eyes of the Wolves, who looked at him with disapproval, and in that instant, Joshua took Gerard’s transformed arm and squeezed it with his hand in human form. Gerard felt the pressure, it did not hurt, but he was surprised that Joshua could generate so much power.

“If you touch me, she will die!” Gerald threatened once more, his eyes red with anger.
