LXXXIV: New Battle

1000 Words
Edith looked at Joshua with a small smile before she leaned down to kiss him. She did not intend to make the kiss long, just a swift smack on his lips, but he had other plans.   At the moment that Edith was about to move away, Joshua grabbed Edith’s nape holding her in place. Edith’s yelped, but she let him kiss her as if his life depended on it. Her face was red from shyness and warmth, but she savored his lips and the closeness that he had to her at that moment. Since the couple was having their sweet moment, those around averted their gaze at them with embarrassment. When Joshua let go of her, she said in heavy breathing, “I will be in the circle of altars. From there, my powers are amplified, and I can move on, with the help of Eleonor, to see what happens and fight.” Joshua nodded as she walked along with Eleonor, who had her face red with awkwardness. He chuckled at her before waving goodbye to goodbye to Seraphim. Seraphim just nodded in acknowledgment before she looked at the horizon, preparing for combat. Nate looked at her with a smile and asked, “Shouldn’t you go to the circle of altars too?” She shook her head. While looking at Naste, Seraphim replied, “No, the god of war does not see well the warriors fleeing from the battle. I must face what is coming from the front.” He smiled and nodded as he prepared. Joshua turned to see the men and women werewolves under his command, they all had reckless expressions and were ready to protect their home, and when they saw the alpha, they all paid attention. Joshua didn’t have to raise his voice too high to make his message echo from the mountain behind him. Everyone was ready and listening intently. “We do not know what enemy awaits us… But that is the beginning of all pain, the unknown. No matter what is behind the cloak of darkness, if it threatens our well-being and ours, we must confront them.” Everyone looked at him with attention, and he with continuous calm. “Former friends and comrades have turned their backs on us to support a traitor, and although that wrinkles our hearts we cannot waver, we must face them with the strength that characterizes our hearts, we are the heirs of Armand, we are the Heirs of Astarod, they gave us the courage and put it in our blood, and we will spill it to defend our legacy.” The wolves were roaring loudly when he euphorically said, “We will show traitors our fangs, we will give fury to enemies, and we will protect our family with life, Witnesses to the moon and prepare to fight!” All the wolves exploded in a huge ovation full of euphoria and inspiration, and looking ahead, Joshua prepared himself. Erika hit his arm and winked at him, smiling. Her sister had her bow and the sword that Joshua had stolen from one of the wizards hanging from his belt. On the other side were Nate and Seraphim smiling, both inspired and ready for combat when a huge horn sounded in the distance. Joshua opened his eyes, he did not know what it could be, werewolves did not use horns to announce the attack, and vampires were not to do that kind of bow, there Joshua understood the number of creatures that were coming towards him when three huge giants appeared running towards the wall at full speed. “s**t!!”Seraphim cursed while looking at Joshua. He looked at her surprised, waiting for her to reply immediately. Through restrained frustration, she replied, “Archers !!” All the women of the tribe of his mother took their bows and bathed the arrows in blood, prepared to attack. Erika took out three arrows and bathed the three arrows in blood, she said aloud. “Gift of Devotion! For them!” All the archers released their arrows, and they shot into the air. Once they were away from the wall, they all activated their gift of devotion, and with impressive efficiency, each arrow acquired a different ability. Some arrows fell to the ground and lit the fire. Everything they touched created a Wall of Flames. That ability would have been much more useful if the giants could not jump and avoid the fire with agility. Others exploded on contact, but the giants covered their faces to be able to advance, one of the arrows fell into the eye of a giant, and he felt the explosion destroying his eye. That one stopped, and with the rest of the impacts, he lost his balance falling with his face over the fire and igniting in flames. The archers let out a shout of celebration as one of the two remaining giants leaned down to grab an enormous amount of earth and stones from the ground and hurl them at the wall and its inhabitants. “Watch out!!” Joshua yelled, while looking at everything seriously. He then moved fast, taking cover. The wall received the impacts, and despite being made of wood, it did not move an inch, but each impact hit on edge destroyed the members of the wolves that were in that place. Joshua stood up and watched as the giant was about to do the same again. Joshua angrily was preparing to jump the wall and face him himself, but his sister loudly said, “Where are you going? This is no time for the big gun to attack, trust your people!” He looked at her, and Seraphim, rising over the edge of the wall, smiled when he said, “Muru Scutun !!” The girl’s eyes shone, and in front of her, a huge red seal appeared. The giant took all the rocks he could and, adopting her posture, threw her with force towards the wall.
