Eleanor smiled and, looking at her, she said, “Yes, I’m not, but that won’t stop the hunters from killing me if they find me. You and he are the safest places for me now. When all this madness is over, I will return to normal.”
Edith smiled and, nodding, looked at Joshua to say.
“We will leave first thing in the morning for your mother. For now, we should all get some sleep.”
They all nodded and withdrew. Each one entered a room. Edith and Joshua entered the same room, and looking into the room, Joshua asked, “Are you really doing this to get information?”
Edith smiled, and looking at Joshua with a soft gaze, before she said, “I want to help you, as much as I want to help her, and I know this is the best way, isn’t that enough?”
Joshua approached. He then kissed her forehead. In fact, he wanted to do more, and that was not hidden in his gaze that was focused on her lips.
He blinked his eyes before he smiled helplessly and then said, “Of course, that’s enough, but don’t forget the girl’s words. Perhaps in the future, they may be useful.”
Edith smiled and, placing her head on Joshua’s chest, took a deep breath. A journey was about to begin.
Joshua rested on the bed. The werewolves only needed to sleep a couple of hours a day. After that, they were always awake. No matter the circumstances, only those two hours were enough. Lying in bed with Edith by his side, he looked at the ceiling of the room when a familiar scent reached him.
All the scents of the city always prevented him from recognizing anything, but a familiar scent appeared, as he slowly got up his way to the window when he looked on an adjacent rooftop at two werewolves who seemed to be looking for his trail, his night vision activated and when he saw them he realized who they were.
“Set,” Joshua said with a smile.
Edith got up and seeing him glued to a window. She asked, “What are you doing there?”
Joshua stared at her and said with an alert expression, “Werewolves. They are following my scent.”
Edith looked out the same window as him and saw them, and they weren’t too far away when she asked with a deep frown, “How did they find you? I thought that following a scent in the city was not easy.”
Joshua stared at them with concern at first. Then his eyes widened before he a smile spread across his mouth.
While looking at Edith, with delight, he asked, “See that brat? His name is Set. He is a very promising boy, he is not eighteen years old yet, and he is already the best tracker of the pack, and he is not completely useless in combat. He is a good wolf.”
As he said that, Edith looked at his smile. Clearly, he was proud of the boy and his pack in general.
She could not imagine the feeling that Joshua felt to have to hide from his people. Looking at him with compassion, she asked, “What will we do? If they find you and enter this department, they will die.”
Joshua nodded and calmly said, “I wish I could talk to Set, he already found me, but he is delaying his partner so that I can escape. I wish I could talk to him.”
Edith stared at him, and Joshua was nodding at her, though he said, “Yes, I don’t want to hurt any of them.”
She rang and leaving the room. She returned a few seconds later with a bottle, handed it to Joshua, and said, “The content of that bottle is a strong sleeping potion, and if you make the wolf smell it, it will sleep for hours.”
Joshua looked at the bottle and raising his face, and he said, “We are werewolves ...”
But Edith waved her hand. With a smile, she answered, “That makes no difference.”
Joshua nodded, and with speed climbing on the window, he started off.
In the other building, Set could smell Joshua on the move. He thanked him in a way that he had noticed his presence, although he had never doubted it. Joshua was the one who had taught him everything.
It was clear that he could get used to the overwhelming impact of the city much faster than everyone else. He was the alpha, after all.
“Kid? Do you know where that traitor is?”
Set hated that people call Joshua tractor or talk badly about Joshua, especially after everything he had done for them, but he knew what his position was.
While looking in all directions, he said, “He’s moving. I’m trying to understand his movement.”
The man next to him, who was much beefier and with a huge beard, said, “Kid! You are supposed to be amazing at this! Find him!!”
Set looked at his partner, and somewhat frightened, he backed away, suddenly the strong aroma of Joshua reached him when out of nowhere he landed on his partner, leaving him unconscious with the bottle that Edith had given him.
Set looked at him with admiration. As he got up, his bearing gave him a unique look, his brown skin stood out in the moonlight, and his kind face reminded him who the true leader was.
Joshua was looking a Set directly when he said, “If there was someone who could find me, it would surely be you.”
The boy felt those words in his heart and running like that, and he starts hugging him. Joshua hugged him back, and for a second, that boy’s tears fell to the ground.
After that, he walked away and, taking a knee. He said, “At your services!”
Joshua tapped the kid´s head twice and motioned for him to get up. Set looked at him and listened when Joshua said, “I don’t know what Gerard and his father are saying, but we are brothers. You are not my servants. Get up!”
Set got up and, looking at Joshua, said, “How did you hide your scent like that? I thought you were walking away, but you came all the way here!”
Joshua smiled and said, “Privileges of being the alpha kid.”
Turning his head, he heard Edith’s voice in his mind that told him to go to the apartment, nodding.
He looked at Set and, taking the wolf from the ground. He said, “Follow me.”
Set nodded, and they both began to move. Once in the apartment, the three witches were awake, watching the wolves enter. Seraphim looked at the boy with hostility, and just seeing her, Set feared for his life.
