XXVI: Interrupted

Far from that place, a man sat to talk. In front of him, a vampire drank from a glass. The blood he ingested was different from anything he had eaten in a long time. Smiling, he looked at the person in front of him and cynically asked, “Remember me why I can’t kill you?” The man in front of him smiled and then replied casually, “Because you are very weak. First, you need to be an emissary of the moon, and perhaps an ingest, and soul of some witch!” The Vampire nodded, not at all offended. Being an emissary of the moon was his goal anyway. While looking at his companion, he asked, “So, will you help me achieve my goal?” To which the man replied, “Sure, that way, I’ll get mine! Remember, all this has a greater purpose! “ To which the Vampire replied, “Yes, I know! All this is for you to reach death!” *** Joshua was lying on the roof of the truck. He was looking at the night sky with a serious expression. His mind was flying in the direction of his pack, and the things that had happened and had led him to where he was. Inside the truck, the witches slept. He would love to sleep next to Edith, heck was craving for that, but he needed to keep her safe first. Joshua felt his wolf from within scratch his consciousness. It was annoyed at him. Patience buddy… Patience is always rewarded. Besides, she’s not human, so we have all the time in the world later. Joshua talked it out of his wolf. In fact, it was also something he was doing for himself. He released a sigh when he remembered their current situation. Attacking a vampire nest at night would not be smart. That was why they had decided to wait for dawn. For that reason, Joshua had taken the responsibility of watching in case an intruder attacked them. As he watched the night, he felt Edith’s body move inside the truck, and when she climbed on the roof of it, he said while gazing at her with love, “You should rest. You will need it.” When Edith noticed the way he looked at her, she felt embarrassed. She still could not get used to this lovey-dovey thing from him. He was so reserved if there were other people around, but when they were alone, it was like he turned into a big teddy bear—all-loving. She was not complaining that he was doing that. Edith was just not used to it. Edith lay down next to him and calmly said, “It’s not necessary, the vampires don’t worry me, but I can’t stop thinking about the things that have been happening. How is it that we let everything progress to this point? Does it make me think what I was doing wrong?” Joshua looked at her, waiting for her to continue talking, but Edith was just frowning as if she was thinking of an annoying problem. He found her even more beautiful when she was acting like this. Before he knew it, he already kissed her. Edith gave herself to the kiss. I could get used to this… She thought to herself as she tried her best to imitate him shyly. Joshua opened his eyes abruptly as he sensed a familiar foul smell. Immediately he got up. His expression was annoyed as he looked at the plain. There were not many places to hide, but Joshua’s nose was not deceiving him. Someone was approaching. “Someone is very close. He is a vampire,” the werewolf said, his voice with restrained anger. He was having a good time with his mate! Despite his annoyance, Joshua continued sniffing the environment. When he found his position, he grinned evilly. And using all his strength, he jumped towards the Vampire’s location. Joshua jumped with all the power he could conjure up to attack his enemy, but in mid-flight, he handheld his neck, and with superhuman force, he smashed him to the ground. Joshua felt the air escape from his lungs, and completely helpless, he could not do anything when that powerful hand lifted him into the air. Staring at nothing and floating in the hands of a creature he couldn’t see, Joshua felt an intense pain in his neck. Edith, scared by the image, raised her hands and made her eyes shine. She said, “Show yourself! Spiritus!” Just as Edith shouted, the red seal in her hands appeared, and in front of her, a man with long hair to the waist with a bare chest and an open jacket appeared. The man was holding Joshua in the air with his powerful hand, and his sharp fangs revealed his identity. Joshua, making use of the little strength he had left, raised one knee with remarkable power to hit the Vampire in the face, but he did not feel any impact. With force, he threw the wolf at full power to the truck, where he hit it on two wheels for a second. The truck landed on its four wheels again when Joshua holding his neck, looked at the Vampire in front of them. “I knew you would come for us. We have been waiting for you,” Joshua said as he stood up, staring at his enemy. Deep inside, he hoped this damn leech should appear way later. Edith saw Joshua was alright. She asked, “Does he have more allies nearby?” Joshua shook his head. “Intammorten!!” Edith yelled after seeing Joshua’s gesture. Just as Edith did, the Vampire’s eyes shone black, and his hair rose. A seal in his hand appeared, then the Vampire felt a powerful heat in his chest that made him fall to his knees. But he was not showing expression of pain at all. Edith looked at him as she gasped, and seeing him, she did not understand what was happening. The vampire smiling looked at her and, getting up, took off the overcoat that covered part of his body and showing his anti-magic seal on his chest. He laughed aloud before he said happily, “That man was right. This seal was very useful!” With those words, he pounced on the witch, who was completely surprised. In a fraction of a second, he cut the distance, but Joshua using his strength got in the way of the Vampire. Joshua managed to stop him, but his strength was not compared to that of that creature. The Vampire lifted him and crashed him to the ground without the slightest difficulty, each blow broke Joshua’s bones, but he healed instantly, although he continues with the combat that way would not be favorable. The Vampire leaped into the air and then forcefully threw Joshua to the ground roughly. The werewolf felt the strong impact, and then seeing the fangs of the Vampire about to dig into his face, he stopped it with his hands. The Vampire’s strength surpassed his, and he would undoubtedly kill him if he didn’t do something. His fangs were about to dig into his neck when Joshua, completely desperate, succumbed to the urge and transformed into a gigantic wolf. The strength he had before was multiplied by ten, and the clear advantage of the Vampire disappeared when the wolf’s claws embedded in his face, and he abruptly smashed him to the ground and then sent him flying. The Vampire’s wounds healed immediately, and seeing the wolf roaring and showing his fangs, he smiled. Joshua rising towards his body increasingly larger, in his mind, could feel how all the members of his pack discovered the place where he was, but at that moment, that fact was irrelevant. The enemy in front of him deserved all the power that the wolf could use. The Vampire smiled when Edith looked at him from the truck. Eleanor and Seraphim immediately got out and saw her with her arms clenched, watching the battle. Eleanor seeing the situation, said in worry, “No! His companions will know where we are!” But Edith was defenseless. Using the instant death spell used up all her energy, it was a very powerful spell, and it was definitive. If she cast it on someone, this person would surely die, but it did not work this time. The anti-magic seal that this Vampire had was clearly a caution against her, and by using that spell foolishly, she wasted her only chance to protect Joshua.
