LXXIX: After Defeat

1084 Words
In a fraction of seconds, he had taken the painting where Stella was sealed, and none of them had been able to do anything to avoid it. The second servant’s death was now in the hands of the Hunters. Everyone was silent, the assimilation of that massive defeat was difficult to process, the barrier had fallen, and everyone was free. The confused humans roamed their destroyed city without really having any memory of what had happened. Nate looked out the tower window as the city slowly realized the things they had lost. When Seraphim touched his shoulder, he asked softly, “Are you okay?” Nate looked at her with a smile and looked in all directions, and he shook his head. He watched as humans tried to return everything to normal, helped the injured, and tried to understand what had happened with as much logic as they were capable of. However, there with them, the doubt grew to nurture an absolute fear that did not let anyone be at peace. Nate, seeing this, said, “I always thought my father was the worst thing in the world. And for me, he was. I knew about werewolves, witches, and the whole scene, but none of it had to do with me. You know I could spend the years that I am going to live as a simple human and nobody would care, nobody would notice, but seeing how these people use humans and seeing how people like me, who coincidentally and without having asked are born with certain gifts are hunted by those maniacs, that makes me feel very uneasy.” Seraphim taking his shoulder put her head on the boy’s arm and said, “I’m very sorry to have involved you in all this...” He shook his head and looked at her, and he said, “It’s not your fault… is theirs. You know I hate fighting. I have done it many times, but I hate it. I hate being scared, I hate that emotion you feel when you fight, and I overly hate hurting others. But this world... those people keep pushing me to do it because if I don’t. Who will protect them?” Seraphim took a deep breath, and she was devoted to the god of war. The idea of hating combat was not something she could understand, but seeing his frustration, she knew what he was referring to. Keeping silent, she let Nate plunge into his thoughts. Many times that’s just what we need, and there by his side, they both began to see humans. Edith looked at the ground, and she was completely surprised by everything that had just happened. In front of her, Erika and Joshua, also quite distressed by what happened, were preparing to leave. Joshua took Edith’s face in his hands and raised her face, and he said, “Your sister is sealed within that painting, and there is no way they can break a seal made by one of you!” He did his best to improve the witch’s mood, but she was not so sure if that was true. After all, they had managed to trap them in that city, and with an exorbitant number of hunters, they had managed to be very close to ending them all. If it hadn’t been for Dominic, they would probably all be dead, and it was he himself who caused Stella to be captured by the hunters. Looking around and taking a deep breath, she said, “I can’t believe what happened. Stella is very strong. Strong enough to control that stupid demigod!” At that moment, the rest of them approached her, and Nate, with some apprehension, said, “No, she couldn’t control him, his attempt to murder her in the end...” Edith looked at Nate and nodded, which made her think of something that she had missed for a long time. She raised her face and, looking at Joshua, said, “Something is not right….” Joshua looked at her, and with some confusion, she asked, “What are you talking about!?” She got up and looked around, and she said, “How did Stella meet a demigod...? How did she come to seal his powers, and why were they working together?” Joshua shrugged, and everyone present realized how strange the situation was. Nate, looking around him, said, “What was your sister doing in this place?” Edith shook her head, and she actually had no idea why Stella was in a city. The servants of death were the ones who kept the two worlds apart. For that reason, they all stayed in isolated places. However, Stella was in the middle of a huge city, things were strange, and it probably all had to do with that man who was trying to finish them off. Nevertheless, what had happened made everything difficult, now Stella and Edith could not talk, and for that reason, Edith would not understand the situation until Stella was available again. Getting up her way, she thought and said, “This is no accident! Hunters are now incredibly more powerful, have better ways to attack magical creatures, and can use the gifts of sorcerers! There is a man with magic capable of defying the god of death... and one of the most powerful Alphas was betrayed and killed. The world is moving quite fast.” Edith looked at Joshua and said, “Your altar. In your mother’s town there is an altar of the god of death, isn’t it? I need to get to that place, and I will be able to converse with the god and have more clarity of what is happening... we also have to protect that place from the creatures that are going there.” Joshua looked at her and calmly asked, “What about Stella?” Edith shook her head and looked out the window, that decision broke her heart, but her priorities were clear. Looking at Joshua and the rest, she said, “I’m sorry for Stella, but you said it. They won’t be able to break that seal that quickly. However, we need all the information we can if we are to rescue her from them. And I need to know what is happening... her rescue will have to wait.” Nate stepped forward and, looking at Edith, and said, “If you allow it, I could try to rescue her! I am an expert in infiltrations, actually.”
