Chapter 3ex-boyfriend

900 Words
When Lilyth left Jack's place, it was almost one o'clock in the morning. She drove out of the underground parking lot. There were hardly any pedestrians on the road at this late hour. She rolled down the car window, letting the night breeze in to clear her mind of the confusion and restlessness. The consequence of driving home with the window open was that Lilyth caught a fever again. The thermometer showed 39 degrees Celsius, and the fever medicine didn't work. Lilyth called in sick to her company and took a taxi to the hospital alone. Just as she was about to go to the waiting area, she was called by name. The person was wearing a white coat and had a handsome face. Tony approached, frowned, and looked her up and down. Finally, his gaze landed on the registration slip in her hand. "What's wrong? Are you sick?" Lilyth looked at the approaching person, a bit stunned. "Tony? Is that you? You're back?" "Yeah, I just got back the day before yesterday." Tony reached out and took the registration slip from her hand, glanced at it, and then asked, "Why do you have a fever?" “...... It might be because of the change of seasons recently. I wasn't paying attention for a moment." Lillith said, reaching for the registration form, but was stopped by Tony. "Wait, I'll take you for a check-up." Tony was a doctor at the Well Hospital, young and promising. He was already a renowned chief surgeon before he turned thirty. Both being in the same circle and of similar age, Tony and Jack were always compared to each other. Besides their family backgrounds and the fact that both chose careers that their elders disapproved of, the most interesting point about them was Lillith. Everyone in their circle knew that Tony and Lillith used to be lovers. But later, for some reason, Jack's grandfather arranged for Jack and Lillith to be engaged. After that, Tony left the country in a fit of rage to study abroad for three years, and the matter was gradually forgotten. Now that they met again, it was impossible for Lillith to have no reaction in her heart. But she also didn't know what to say to Tony, so she could only follow him, silently finish the check-up, and then return to the office. "Why did you come to the hospital alone?" Tony took off the pen hanging from his chest and picked up the medical record book beside him. The pen tip made a scratching sound on the paper. "Where's Jack? Is he that busy? Why didn't he come to the hospital with you?" Lillith didn't know how to answer and remained silent. "Haha." Tony suddenly laughed, as if he had guessed. He threw the pen on the table. "Get up, we need to give you an IV." The advantage of a private hospital was that there weren't many people. Tony led Lillith to a place and asked her to sit and rest, then turned around to talk to the nurse. Lillith's tense nerves relaxed after Tony left. She let out a sigh of relief and closed her eyes. Her mind began to feel drowsy and heavy, so much so that she seemed to hear Jack's voice. "Wait here for a moment. The test results will be out soon." The man's deep voice sounded behind Lillith. She frowned and turned her head. Jack had his back to her, bending over and talking to a girl. "Professor Jack, I'm scared." The girl's voice was still trembling. She reached out and grabbed Jack's sleeve. "Will I never be able to dance again?" Lillith had never seen Jack so gentle. At least not in front of her. He was a neat freak and didn't like others touching his body. But he didn't shake off the girl's hand. Instead, he comforted her gently, "No, you won't. You just sprained your ankle." The girl lifted her small face. It was a very pretty face. Lillith could see the shyness and hope on her face. She said, "Thank you for bringing me to the hospital. I don't know what I would have done otherwise." "It's okay. You'll be fine soon," Jack said gently. Lillith turned her head back. She took out her headphones from her bag and put them in her ears, turning the volume up to the maximum. She had no intention of greeting Jack. Since he didn't notice her, it was fine. Tony didn't know what he was doing and didn't come back until the nurse hung the IV on Lillith. When he did come back, the words he said weren't very pleasant. "I just met Jack. He was with a girl." He raised his eyebrows slightly. "Did you see him?" Lillith gave Tony a glance. "No." She really didn't. She never turned her head, not even when he helped the girl pass by her. Tony didn't dwell on the topic. He smiled and said, "Owens just called. There's a party tonight. Do you want to go?" Owens' party was at his newly opened bar. When Tony and Lillith arrived, they could hear laughter and noise from afar. And the moment Lillith stepped into the private room, she saw Jack sitting in the corner, along with the girl beside him. The girl who had been crying so sadly in the hospital during the day.
