After leaving the morgue, on the account of my narrative, it follows that the boys went ahead to reacquaint themselves once more.
In the particular but not so impressive flat of Arthur Caine.
The living room was barely equipped.
The floor was decorated with an unfamiliar making that I was myself not acquainted with.
There were two armchairs and a table of mahogany wood.
There were books, yes books a great deal of them,
Teacups and empty flower vases.
On one occasion I did ask Arthur why he kept the vases empty.
he replied that he had no desire to domesticate things such fragile things,
but had only a picturesque desire for the aesthetic.
So imagine there's a flower there and your day will be splendid.
No.12 Barton street Sheffield
"I think ritual is beautiful my friend, the habit of routine, the lush of repetition I find it wholly divine that's why I command such superiority of the human anatomy and physiology." Cecil bragged as he reclined into the chaise lounge.
"I sense a psychological imbalance, you are compulsive dear boy.
You need to find comfort in the satisfaction of routine.
Your constant desire for stability, and therein lies the defect.
But you're hardly at fault your occupation is highly routined." Arthur Caine said
"What else can you tell about me, Arthur?. Please, divine away."
"You are psychologically disturbed almost distracted.
How's your concentration? how long do you intend to hide all this within your brief bouncy joviality?
"I don't intend to" Cecil retorted "I don't excel at compartmentalizing as yourself,
However, what I can do is repair the broken mechanics of frail humanity.
Call it god but it's the divinity of science"
"Well said but what we face today is the war of the mind in a society where every man wears a mask.
And the mind is the engine of the soul, this vampire is vile, corrupt and crass.
We must endeavour to find him and the hidden connection between his victims.
"What can you tell me from the bodies you examined post mortem." Arthur inquired
"The two victims I examined were pale from exsanguination, both female, married,
being between 30 to 35 years, without children.
Also, I found that both the victims had antemortem punctures in their necks, bite marks on their necks and thighs.
The killer used a blunt object to incapacitate both victims non penetrating trauma to the back of the neck, after which he bound them up and violated them."
Cecil concluded ruefully "he r***d them"
"How tragic, his methods are unconventional and premeditated we have a psychopath on the loose.
And also there were small incisions on the left arm of both the victims "Cecil said looking at Arthur "You know what that means don't you"
"Unfortunately yes," Arthur replied
"He's collecting the blood of his victims.
That would require the skill set of a barber.
Our killer is medically adept"
"So what is your psychological diagnosis for this mad man
Any thoughts on what fuels his psyche" Cecil inquired
Arthur Caine got up and paced about the room, stopping briefly to pick up a Bible.
"The Christians believe God watches from heaven because he would, in the end, punish all inequities,
But who'll judge the criminally insane?
Those monsters that defile nature.
I believe this man has hidden something vile within his soul, a more grotesque becoming of all ourselves.
He lets in the things we fight endlessly to keep away
And God will do nothing but watch.
"The mythologies speak of such creatures.
A bloodthirsty beast that walks about in the dark reaping evil upon men.
I don't suppose he's the living embodiment of our true selves
The evolutionary leap we are afraid to take."
"We must not ourselves ponder such questions.
Whatever Darwinian leap this fellow has taken he must walk the path alone."
For a moment silence engulfed the room as Arthur & Cecil
drowned in their investigation.
If anyone was close enough to observe these men they would certainly say that they were both kindred spirits.
No one else in the world understood one better than the other.
They had known each other for a great deal of sixteen years.
"I must say my friend" Arthur broke the silence "you do make a fine Dupin, yourself"
"We'll boarding school was ghastly until you showed up with your proclivities for breaking the enigmatically inclined
I still till today find no man who could intellectually best me."
"That's because men rarely act on their capacity to ratiocinate."
"I must inquire," Cecil asked "how is the delectable miss Devereaux
Surely you must have heard from her by now."
"She sent a letter not long after her disappearance" Arthur reached into his pocket and brought out a letter, he handed over to Cecil.
The content of the letter was not explicitly read out loud by Cecil but it was written in finessed cursive from incredibly outstanding penmanship.
From its condition the envelope was old but in perfect condition to hold its content.
One could say that the letter was incredibly cherished by its recipient, but then my narrative could be logically questioned either way.
Bellow lies the content of the cherished or not so cherished letter from Miss Eileen Devereaux.
Dear Arthur
There may lie much unrest
about the things we choose to ignore
And If it ever gets gloomy and lonely tomorrow
burn the world and Lay in its pyre
I'll be somewhere waiting to comfort you.
For you my dear lowly creature.
Yours truly
Eileen. D
"Lovely
I always thought by Jove
That you two were the only ones who couldn't fail in love
She was the only one who could break the rigidity of your mechanical heart." Cecil replied intrigued
"I wouldn't call it love," Arthur said "perhaps it was a frivolous dalliance of our souls.
And I certainly wouldn't be the only man to be burnt" Icarus is well up that ladder"
"Say what you want Arthur but matters of the heart are delicate.
I believe it changes a person; to be intertwined with another soul"
Upon the journey of our narrative, we will find the effect of love's chaos on certain individuals.
Even the best thing is made from entropy.
And as for happiness, it'll be something claimed only by a few of us.
And with that, we shall be moving on to the next,
Occurrence in this frail timeline.
