Chapter 5-The Choice

787 Words
"I'm not leaving," Adam repeats. I almost pee myself when his eyes begin to swirl, the color shifting from a stormy gray to a glowing silvery-blue. I gasp, stumbling back against the counter, but he steps up closer, denying me space and smiles, flashing a set of canines that make my head swirl with faint horror. No. He smirks. “You can curse me, rage at me, hate me all you want, but you know it’s all true, and now that I’ve found out I have a pup, I’m not going any-f*****g-where. Don’t test me, Rogue. Don’t make me do something we’ll both regret. I protect what’s mine. Always. And Jackson is mine. My heir. My legacy.” He says softly, nodding when I whimper and feel tears fill my eyes. “This isn’t real.” “This is very real, baby,” Adam murmurs, leaning in closer until I feel his lips brush over mine. God help me, my traitor body clenches and that fast, my p***y throbs, begging for something I’ve denied myself for five years because everything he just said is true. I haven’t let another man touch me because anytime I tried, it ended in agony and such guilt, I ran home and took scalding hot showers just to calm the howling in my head. “Why? Why come now? Why couldn’t you just leave me alone? You didn’t even know he existed.” I say hoarsely, my throat so thick it hurts to get the words out while fighting the arousal that’s flooding me and fizzles in my veins. Adam shrugs, stepping back and turns to stare at Jacky with a look so filled with emotion, it hurts me. If this is all true…I shut the thought down because I can’t think about that now. My baby…oh, God. Is this why he was born three months premature but was above average birth weight? Is this why he walked at six months and started talking before he was a year old? I shudder, my mind going blank because it’s too much. “There’s no point in talking about the why, Rogue. All you need to know is that I’m here and that you’re mating me.” “Adam…I can’t…I just…” “You will. You’ll mate me. Or you lose our son.” Adam says softly. “Make your choice. Now.” Choice… Choice! There is no choice. “You can’t do this. I’ll go to court. I’ll fight you—” “And lose, baby. Look around you, Rogue. Think about where you are.” Adam says softly, reaching up to caress my cheek with a tenderness that’s absent from his cold eyes. “You think it’s a coincidence that folks around here flock to this café to buy coffee and baked goods? People drive from towns all around Ash Valley. Because shifters only deal with other shifters. This town is a shifter town. Most of the folks you live among are shifters. Why do you think you never have any trouble?” I shake my head, thinking about the people I know. Meryl, who’s at least eighty but moves like she’s still in her forties. Jace who…oh, God. “It isn’t real. This isn’t real. It isn’t true.” I whisper, so choked up it hurts to breathe. “It’s very real and it’s true. You won’t make it out of this town if you try to run with Jackson. So don’t bother trying. Once I let them all know that you’re my mate, you and Jackson belong to me, and as Alpha of the Fury Pack, there isn’t a shifter alive who will fight me. I’m sorry, but this is the way it has to be. You’re mine, Rogue. And I claim what is mine. Now make your choice.” He says softly. "These aren't choices. I don't want you." I scream, flinching when Jacky looks up and frowns. Adam stiffens, his eyes turning a dark gray-silver that seems to move within his irises. It's enchanting, almost entrancing, and for reasons I can't explain, something inside me melts, urging me to submit. Alpha. Ours. Submit. The voice is a lulling whisper, and I feel my blood thicken, my mind slow, becoming so intoxicated I lean in closer and lick my lips. Just one taste, Rogue. Just taste him once. It's sweet, like honey. Don't you want to taste it again? Don't you remember what it felt like when he made love to you and kissed you, filling your senses with his essence? I hum, drunk on the memory of that night, and just like that, I'm cast back into a past I've fought to forget.
