Chapter 3 As Kang Hee-sik shielded Bella's face, he held her firmly as they entered their mansion. Upon entering, Bella immediately pulled away from Hee-sik's grasp. "Say something if you're suddenly going to drag me!" she exclaimed, her face flushed with a hint of anger. Hee-sik smiled, crossed his arms, and said, "Why? It's not like it means anything, and besides, I just hid your face because I didn't want everyone to know I was with a woman." Hee-sik approached her, a mocking smile playing on his lips. Bella stood up straight, her eyes fixed on Hee-sik. "Hah, maybe you're embarrassed because they might see a simple woman like me wearing clothes that aren't very expensive, is that what you're saying?" Bella retorted angrily. Hee-sik smiled and whispered to Bella, seemingly intent on provoking her. "Because I don't want them to see me with you, it might ruin my image." Bella's eyes widened with a mix of anger and sadness. She looked down at the floor as Hee-sik walked towards his room upstairs. Bella trembled with anger and frustration at Hee-sik. "He's so arrogant, as if his face makes him any better! Ugh!" she muttered angrily as she walked towards her room. Kang Mei-Bik witnessed the exchange between the two, a sly smile forming on her lips. She whispered to herself, "I need to think of a way to make them both like each other..." Mei-Bik then walked towards her office. The next morning, after showering and getting ready, Bella stepped out of her room and descended to the first floor for breakfast. She found Kang Mei-Bik already seated in the dining room, who smiled at her and beckoned her closer. Bella approached her and greeted her with a good morning. Kang Mei-Bik smiled back and took Bella's hand, speaking softly. "Bella, could you please go check on Kang Hee-sik? He hasn't woken up yet, and he needs to eat breakfast before work." Bella was surprised by the elderly woman's request. She wanted to say no, but she felt too shy to refuse, so she simply went back upstairs. She knocked on Kang Hee-sik's door, but there was no answer. Without hesitation, she entered the room. Bella cautiously walked towards Kang Hee-sik's bed and saw him still sleeping. She gazed at his face, thinking how handsome he looked even while asleep. Bella's cheeks flushed, realizing her thoughts. She shook her head and slapped her cheek. "Ugh! Don't think about it... this jerk..." Bella sighed and approached Kang Hee-sik's bed. She gently nudged his arm. "Hey, wake up. Grandma says it's time for breakfast... Hey..." Even after Bella nudged him, Kang Hee-sik remained asleep. Bella thought of another way to wake him up and poked his cheek. "Hey... Wake up." Bella smiled while poking his cheek. A moment later, Kang Hee-sik suddenly grabbed Bella's wrist and pulled her down onto the bed, wrapping his arms around her. He didn't seem to notice what he was doing. Bella was startled by his actions and tried to gently remove Hee-sik's arm so she could get up. But Hee-sik’s embrace was so tight that Bella couldn’t break free from him. Bella stared at Kang Hee-sik’s face—it was so close to hers. She smiled again. “You would be handsome… if only you weren’t so grumpy. What a waste.” Slowly, Bella’s hand moved toward Kang Hee-sik’s face, and she gently touched it. Bella’s face turned red as she did this. A moment later, Bella felt Kang Hee-sik’s hands on her back, and then one of his hands slowly moved to her thigh, carelessly making its way to her butt and giving it a squeeze. Bella was shocked, her face turning bright red, and she immediately pushed Kang Hee-sik off the bed. Kang Hee-sik fell off the bed and suddenly woke up. “Ouch!” He held his back and looked at his bed, where he saw Bella. “What the heck! Why did you push me off my own bed?” He stood up and looked at Bella, while on her face blushing. “Wait, what are you doing in my room?” Kang Hee-sik asked. Bella quickly got up from Kang Hee-sik’s bed, still blushing, and suddenly shouted at him, “Pervert!” After that, she left Hee-sik’s room. Kang Hee-sik scratched his head. “Why was she even in my room?” Then he thought to himself, “It felt like I touched something soft and smooth…” He just sighed and went to his bathroom. A few minutes later, Kang Hee-sik also came down to the dining room. He affectionately patted his grandmother's hand and sat beside her, while Bella sat opposite, still flushed from the earlier incident. Kang Mei-Bik looked at the two of them and smiled, then addressed Hee-sik. "Hee-sik, did you sleep well?" Hee-sik nodded while eating, then added, "It felt like a dream, Grandma. I think I touched something soft and smooth, maybe legs?" Upon hearing this, Bella looked down at the floor. Kang Mei-Bik glanced at both Bella and Hee-sik, a triumphant smile playing on her lips. She asked, "What do you mean, Hee-sik? Like you were hugging someone in your dream? A woman?" Kang Mei-Bik smiled broadly, her gaze fixed on Hee-sik. Hee-sik spoke, stroking his chin. "Hm, now that you mention it, Grandma, it was like I was holding a woman, and then suddenly—Mm!" Hee-sik stopped mid-sentence as Bella fed him a piece of bread, her face still red. "Just eat!" Bella quickly rushed to the living room, grabbed her bag, and bid farewell to Miss Kang Mei-Bik. "I'm leaving, Grandma!" she said before hurrying out of the mansion. Kang Hee-sik remained still, the bread still in his mouth. He was stunned by Bella's actions. He removed the bread, "Why did she act like that? Does she seem angry at me, Grandma?" Miss Kang Mei-Bik chuckled at the turn of events. She patted Hee-sik's arm, calming him down. "Hee-sik, what you touched earlier was probably Bella's legs and bottom." Miss Mei-Bik laughed again, noticing the shock on Hee-sik's face. "Huh!? You mean, she… the one…" Hee-sik seemed to understand what had happened. Bella had come to wake him up, and he must have pulled her into bed and hugged her. Hee-sik's face flushed slightly, and he stood up. "I'm leaving too, Grandma. I have a music video shoot at the company." Hee-sik quickly left the mansion. As Hee-sik walked towards the car, he saw Bella awkwardly looking into the distance, avoiding his attention. Hee-sik got into the car and before the driver could start, he spoke, "Next time, don't enter my room without saying anything." He glared at Bella with a hint of anger. Bella looked at Hee-sik and said, "It's not my fault, and your grandmother insisted on bringing me to your room." Bella sighed and turned to look out the window. Hee-sik just sighed and didn't say anything else. They continued their journey. They dropped Bella off near the station so she could go to school alone, avoiding any scandal if they were seen together. As Bella got out, the car left immediately without Hee-sik saying goodbye. He seemed to be in a bad mood. Bella rolled her eyes and started walking towards the bus. Meanwhile, at the idol company industry, Hee-sik was busy practicing with his two group members. Later, Park Shi-min arrived with other groups from the Seven Group. Shi-min greeted them, especially Hee-sik, "How are you guys? Are you done with your next music?" Se-o and Han-So greeted Shi-min, but Hee-sik ignored him. They were rivals in the idol industry, so they didn't get along. Everyone looked at Hee-sik when he ignored them. A member of Group Seven suddenly spoke, "Hee-sik, you're trending now because of your secret girlfriend?" Hee-sik stopped his dance move, sighed, and his usual grumpy, arrogant, and serious demeanor returned. He glared at Group Seven, especially Shi-min, before saying, "It's none of your business what's happening in my life, okay?" Hee-sik grabbed his things and left the dance room. Se-o and Han-so felt embarrassed by Hee-sik's behavior towards the other group members. The other male members of Group Seven were annoyed by Hee-sik's attitude. "He's getting too full of himself, isn't he, Shi-min?" They looked at Shi-min, who just smiled, gazing at the bandages in his hand. His group members spoke again, "Hyung? Are you okay? You seem to really like those bandages." Shi-min was startled. he smiled at them and said, "Don't worry about me. I'm just thinking… oh." he looked around the dance room. "Wait, where are they? Hee-sik?" The other members of Group Seven shrugged at Shi-min's question before saying, "They just left. Hee-sik seems to be in a bad mood." After a member said that, Shi-min suddenly left the room. A few hours later, Hee-sik was having coffee at the company's coffee shop when Shi-min sat down opposite him. Hee-sik looked at him, his expression serious and slightly angry. "What are you doing here?" Hee-sik put down his coffee and stared at Shi-min. Shi-min smiled gently and spoke softly, "I just wanted to check on you. Is that not allowed?" Hee-sik looked out the window and sighed. Hee-sik and Shi-min were once close friends, but a fight over a girl caused Hee-sik to resent Shi-min, a resentment he still hasn't forgotten. Hee-sik crossed his legs, leaned back in his chair, and looked at Shi-min. "Isn't it time we stopped talking about this?" he said, his tone slightly angry. Shi-min sighed, crossed his arms, and looked around the café. "I don't know why you're still angry with me about what happened back then." Shi-min looked seriously at Hee-sik before continuing. "Your girlfriend, Jenny, made her own decision, didn't she?" After Shi-min said this, Hee-sik glared at him, sat up straight, and gave Shi-min a death stare. "Didn't I tell you not to mention that woman to me?" Hee-sik angrily squeezed his hands together while looking at Shi-min. Shi-min looked back at him seriously, their gazes locking for a long moment. "I didn't like what your girlfriend did; she tried to force herself on me, even though I didn't want her. But why are you still angry with me because of it?" Hee-sik sighed at Shi-min's words, stood up, adjusted his suit, and said, "You know why I'm angry with you… because of you, all of that happened." He turned his back on Shi-min. "All the women are crazy about you because of your personality, and that's what irritates me about you… you're too charming." After saying this, Hee-sik walked towards the elevator and entered. Shi-min looked out at the café. He never imagined things would still be like this between him and Hee-sik. He hadn't done anything to get Jenny to approach him back then. He never expected his close friend's girlfriend to fall for him, and that's why Hee-sik resented him. Shi-min sighed and looked at the bandages in his hand. He remembered the woman he met a few days ago. "Will I see her again?" Shi-min smiled, remembering Bella. "She's so cute…" A few hours later, at the Kang family mansion, Bella sat in the living room, reading a textbook for her upcoming university exam. Hee-sik arrived, furious. Bella looked up and stood. Bella approached Hee-sik to say, "Hee-sik, your grandmother—" Before she could finish, Hee-sik walked straight to his room, ignoring her. Bella raised an eyebrow. "What's his problem now? Tsk." She returned to her studies. The next morning, Bella woke up early to help Hee-sik's grandmother with gardening; it was Friday, and Bella didn't have classes. Opening the bathroom door between the two bedrooms, Bella was startled to find Hee-sik, fresh out of the shower, wrapped only in a towel. Hee-sik turned to her. "Yah! What do you think you're doing?! Why are you here again?!" Bella quickly turned around. "Sorry! Why are you showering here? You have a bathroom in your room!" Hee-sik approached the door and touched the doorknob. He looked at Bella's back. "Of course, it's my bathroom too, so I can use it. Besides, you're always intruding where I am. Do you like me?" Bella was surprised by Hee-sik's words and turned to face him. "What?! No! Why would I like you?!" She glared at him, pouting angrily. "And besides, you're not my type!! So get over yourself!" After saying that, Bella stormed off to the first floor. Hee-sik slammed the bathroom door shut before looking in the mirror. He was annoyed. "That woman is such a nuisance!…" Hee-sik held his head and looked at himself in the mirror again, touching his face. "What did she say? That she wouldn't like me? With this handsome face?" he muttered. "She must be blind." Hee-sik smiled and began to get dressed. Soon, he left the bathroom and went downstairs to the dining room. He looked for his grandmother but she wasn't in the living room or kitchen. "Where is that old woman now?" Hee-sik walked down the mansion hallway, entered his office, and spotted his grandmother in the mansion's garden. "What's that woman doing there with Grandma?" Hee-sik raised an eyebrow as he watched from outside. Bella seemed to be helping Miss Kang Mei-bik plant flowers. He noticed how different Bella was from the other women he'd met. Hee-sik smiled as he stared at Bella. Her face and clothes were dirty, but she was still laughing at Hee-sik's grandmother's jokes. Hee-sik leaned against the glass window, captivated by Bella's beautiful smile and laughter. "She's actually pretty when she laughs…" Hee-sik smiled and spent the rest of the day watching the two in the garden. The next day, Kang Mei-bik called Bella and Hee-sik to the living room; it was just the three of them. Hee-sik asked his grandmother what she needed. His grandmother smiled. "Hee-sik, you'll attend the Red Carpet Ball party tomorrow night." Hee-sik lay back on the sofa and replied, "Yes, Grandma, I'll take care of it." Kang Mei-bik smiled broadly at her grandson, then looked at Bella. "It would be good if you take Bella as your partner tomorrow, since she's your fiancée now." Hee-sik sat up straight in surprise. "What?! I'm taking this woman?" Hee-sik's grandmother chuckled, and Bella looked equally surprised. Hee-sik sighed and held his head. "Grandma, I don't want to. It'll cause a scandal if I take her there!" Kang Mei-bik smiled mysteriously. "That's precisely the reason, my dear. You'll bring Bella as your fiancée and introduce her to everyone as the woman you'll marry." Hee-sik was shocked and stood up. "What! Grandma, you know this will be a problem for my career as an idol!" Hee-sik scratched his head, pacing back and forth in front of his grandmother and Bella. "And besides, I don't want to be with this woman; it'll ruin my image!" Bella was taken aback by Hee-sik's words. She knew from the start that he didn't really want her around, and now it seemed he was truly ashamed of her. Kang Mei-bik was angry. "What! That's how you treat your future wife someday, Hee-sik?!" Hee-sik sighed before he could speak, Kang Mei-bik continued, "If you don't improve how you treat Bella, it's like you're hurting me! Huh, Hee-sik!" Hee-sik fell silent. Bella looked at Kang Mei-bik and nervously replied, "Grandma… maybe Hee-sik is right. We're rushing things, and besides…" Bella looked sadly at the floor and sighed. "I don't want to ruin Hee-sik's dreams because of me. I don't want to cause him any more problems…" Mei-bik sadly took Bella's hand, letting her continue. Hee-sik looked at Bella, seemingly remorseful for his words. Bella smiled and rubbed Mei-bik's back to comfort her. "So, I won't go. I'll just stay here with you." Mei-bik smiled sadly, stroking Bella's head, trying to cheer her up. Kang Hee-sik reflected on what he said to Bella; his words had been too harsh. Bella looked at Hee-sik and smiled, though her eyes still held sadness. "You go to the party alone, Hee-sik. I won't go." Hee-sik stared at Bella as he listened. Kang Mei-bik suddenly announced that Hee-sik would take Bella to the party no matter what; otherwise, she would personally tell everyone they were engaged. Bella and Hee-sik were surprised. Hee-sik had no choice but to take Bella to the party. The next day, before evening, Hee-sik took Bella to his private mall to buy her a beautiful dress. While waiting, Hee-sik scrolled through his phone, bored. He looked up and his eyes widened; he dropped his phone when he saw Bella emerge from the dressing room in a stunning dress. Hee-sik's heart pounded at her beauty and sexiness. His face flushed. He pretended to look around, coughed, and said, "Okay… that's nice." Bella looked at him shyly. Hee-sik shook his head, stood up, and approached her. "Not bad… it suits you." Bella blushed at the compliment. A staff member approached with a beautiful mask, which Hee-sik took and gently placed over Bella's eyes to hide her face. Bella looked at Hee-sik, their faces close. Hee-sik gazed into her eyes and gently touched her cheek. Bella asked why she needed a mask at the party. Hee-sik held her cheek. "It's better this way. Fewer people will not recognize you, and you won't have problems with the paparazzi." Bella understood and nodded. As she stepped back, Hee-sik seemed reluctant to let go, still holding her face. Bella looked into his eyes and asked, "Hee-sik… is something wrong?" Hee-sik looked into Bella's eyes, as if he wanted to kiss her. He shook his head and stepped back. He scratched the back of his neck, looking guilty, and apologized for his words from yesterday. Bella was surprised by his apology. She smiled radiantly and thanked him. Hee-sik's eyes widened again at her beautiful smile; his heart seemed to pound. Hee-sik sighed before turning. "Let's go… we might be late for the party." He looked shy as he offered Bella his hand in a gentlemanly gesture. Bella smiled and took his hand, and they walked off together. At the party… many arrived at the Red Carpet Ball, including Bella's Shemei family and Lyka, as well as various celebrities and idols. While Lyka boasted about her rich boyfriend, everyone's attention turned to a newly arrived van. The door opened, and Kang Hee-sik stepped out. Many—mostly women, idols, and Lyka—were thrilled by his arrival. Lyka immediately released her escort and stared at Hee-sik, her expression a mix of surprise and anger when she saw… Everyone saw a beautiful woman in a mask emerge from the van with Kang Hee-sik. The crowd, the celebrities, and the paparazzi swarmed them for photos and videos. Many idols were shocked. The famous idol Kang Hee-sik had a woman with him, but no one knew who she was because of the mask. Hee-sik smiled at Bella, holding her hand gently as they walked the red carpet. Many paparazzi focused on them. Many asked the paparazzi who Hee-sik's companion was. Hee-sik confidently smiled and announced that she was his fiancée. Everyone was shocked. Paparazzi took photos and videos. Some asked for the woman's name, but Hee-sik smiled at the camera and didn't answer. He held Bella's hand firmly before entering the party. A few hours later, Hee-sik left Bella at their table to talk to other idols and members of his group. Bella looked around at the party; many people had come. Bored, she went to the food tables, got some snacks, and bumped into a man. She apologized, but when she saw who it was—Shi-min, the idol she'd met before—she recognized him. "You're here too?" Shi-min apologized, but he seemed confused. "Huh? Do I know you?" Bella was surprised; she remembered she was wearing a mask. She looked away before saying, "Oh… I thought I knew you. Sorry for my behavior." Shi-min smiled charmingly and shook his head. "It's okay. But… I have a question." Bella felt nervous and avoided his gaze before he could answer properly. "Why… is there a problem?" Bella popped a macaron in her mouth, waiting for his answer. Bella was startled when Shi-min gently cupped her chin to turn her face toward him. Her cheeks flushed. "I'm curious; you're the only one wearing a mask tonight." He smiled. Bella quickly removed his hand and stepped back. Shi-min laughed and apologized. He was just curious why Kang Hee-sik's fiancée was so mysterious tonight. Bella didn't know what to do, so she quickly left. Meanwhile, from Kang Hee-sik's perspective: He finished talking with his friends and looked around for Bella. Lyka approached and put her arm around him. "Kang Hee-sik, I'm so glad you're here tonight," she said flirtatiously. But before she could continue, Hee-sik pushed her away. He glared at Lyka with a death stare. "I'm not interested in you, so don't touch me." Lyka was surprised by his intensity and tried to take his hand again. "Kang Hee-sik Oppa, please don't be angry with me." She looked at him sweetly, trying to charm him, but Hee-sik's gaze was elsewhere. He saw other idols approaching Bella in the corner, so he pushed Lyka away and quickly walked over. From Bella's perspective: After escaping Shi-min, she went to the restroom to rest. But when she came out, several men approached her. They invited her to dance and drink, but Bella refused and tried to leave. The idols were persistent, wanting to remove her mask, so Bella panicked and tried to escape, but three men grabbed her. She wanted to fight back, but feared causing a scene. She didn't want to embarrass Hee-sik, so she couldn't do anything. Just as one man reached for her mask, Hee-sik arrived and pulled her away. "Do you need something from my fiancée...?" He glared at them as if he wanted to kill them. The three men quickly left. Bella sighed in relief and thanked Hee-sik. But Hee-sik looked angry, so she apologized; he pulled her to the balcony. The atmosphere was awkward. Bella couldn't look at him. Just as she was about to speak, Hee-sik said, "Why didn't you fight back earlier? You could have handled it, right?!" He looked at her angrily. Bella looked down, nervously playing with her fingers, and shyly said, "I didn't want you to be embarrassed because of me, especially your reputation." Hee-sik held his forehead and sighed. "You didn't need to do that. If you're in danger, you can fight back; why didn't you?" Bella looked at him, tears welling up. "Because I was afraid you'd get angry with me again… because of my mistake…" She looked at him sadly. Hee-sik's eyes widened at her words. "Because of our engagement… your dreams are in danger… that's why I don't want to make mistakes," she continued, tears streaming down her face. "I don't want you to be angry with me—" She stopped when Hee-sik hugged her. "Stupid…" He gently stroked her hair and back, comforting her. Bella cried again. "I'm sorry I get angry with you often… I don't accept this relationship because of the family, but…" Hee-sik pulled back slightly, still hugging her, and looked into her eyes. He lifted her mask to see her beautiful face. "You don't deserve to cry, especially since it's not your fault… it's mine." He gently wiped her tears with his thumbs. Bella looked at him; her tear-stained face was incredibly cute. Hee-sik was speechless. He quickly replaced the mask to hide her expression and buried his face in her neck, hiding his own flushed cheeks. Bella hugged him back. They remained embraced on the balcony, forgetting the party inside, creating their own intimate atmosphere. Time skip. After the party, Bella and Hee-sik were in the car, a comfortable silence between them. They gazed out their respective windows, but their hands were still intertwined from their earlier departure. Bella's face was flushed; she couldn't understand what was happening. She felt happy, but then remembered their contract marriage and the rule against falling in love. She pulled her hand away. Hee-sik looked at her, confused. Bella avoided his gaze. "We're here… I want to get out." Before she could open the door, Hee-sik grabbed her wrist. She looked at him. From Kang Hee-sik's perspective: He didn't understand himself. He didn't want to be separated from Bella, not even tonight. He heard Bella say, "Uhm… can you let go of my wrist?" Startled by his own actions, he released her and looked away. Bella got out of the car. Hee-sik watched her go, placing a hand on his chest. "I don't understand… I don't like that woman, but… I didn't want to let go of her just now…" He sighed, frustrated with his own feelings. He was annoyed with himself. He got out of the car and rushed into the mansion. Meanwhile, after showering, Hee-sik sat on his bed, remembering their hug. His face flushed, and he shook his head, telling himself it meant nothing. He scratched his head, lost in thought. He lay on his bed, scrolling through his phone, and saw the trending topics. Everyone on social media was talking about his fiancée. He saw how many fans wanted to know who the mysterious masked woman was, and also the negative comments. Hee-sik sat up and sighed. "This is what I was afraid of…" He knew things would get chaotic once everyone found out who his fiancée was. He stood up and went to Bella's door. Bella's POV: Bella heard a knock on her door. She opened it to find Kang Hee-sik standing there. She asked him why he was there. Hee-sik scratched his neck, looked at Bella, and spoke softly, "Don't go out of the house tomorrow." Bella was surprised. She told him she had classes at the university. Hee-sik sighed and looked at her. "Tomorrow… many paparazzi might come to the mansion. They might see you if you go out." Bella was shocked. Hee-sik showed her the trending topics; many people wanted to know who his fiancée was. Bella also saw the many negative comments, probably from jealous fans. She was worried. Bella looked nervously at Hee-sik. "But what about my classes tomorrow?" Hee-sik thought for a moment, then smiled and took her hand. "I'll take care of that. Just don't leave the house, okay?" He squeezed her hand, looking into her eyes. Bella nodded; she had no choice. Hee-sik smiled at Bella's response. He wasn't worried about his image being tarnished because of her; he was more concerned that his fans might hurt Bella if they found out who she was. He gently cupped Bella's face and apologized. "If it weren't for my grandmother forcing us into this, none of this would be happening." Bella shook her head. "It's not your fault. Besides, your grandmother just wants you to have a good life," she said, looking down nervously. "And I didn't want to make your grandmother sad, so I agreed to go with you earlier." Hee-sik smiled at her words. Without thinking, he leaned in close to Bella's face. "I don't understand you… you always think of others first… never yourself," he said gently. Bella was startled as Hee-sik leaned in, their eyes locked. It felt like the world disappeared, leaving only the two of them. As Hee-sik's lips moved closer to hers, they could feel each other's racing hearts. Just as their lips were about to touch, the door burst open, sending Hee-sik tumbling back onto the bed. Bella was surprised. It was Miss Kang Mei-bik. She saw her grandson on the bed, apparently with a sore back. "Ouch! Grandma!" Hee-sik exclaimed. Bella covered her mouth, stifling a laugh. Miss Kang Mei-bik said, "Oh, Hee-sik, what are you doing?" Hee-sik was still in pain and couldn't stand up. "You're asking me? It's your fault! My back hurts!" Hee-sik looked at Bella, who had stopped laughing. He smiled secretly. Kang Mei-bik, worried, asked, "Are you alright?" Hee-sik sat up and looked at his grandmother. "I'm not okay, Grandma—" "Are you hurt, Bella?" Hee-sik was speechless; his grandmother was worried about Bella, not him. "Amazing. I'm the one who's hurt, but she's the one you're worried about…" He sighed and looked at Bella, who was smiling beautifully. He smiled back. To be Continued.
