7. The Dream world

It was amazing to see my friend after such a long time. When we were done with hugging, Morpheus looked at me from head to toes. Normally it would be awkward for me to be watched like that and I wouldn’t definitely stay quiet but not this time. I knew Morpheus too well and I knew that he wanted to see how much I changed as well.

“Oh, Firefly! You changed so much!” he said to me after his sight stopped at my breast. My eyebrow raised almost immediately up, and he started to laugh.

“It seems like you had grown up!” said Morpheus to me and when he saw my glaring face after his last comment he started to laugh even more. Seeing him laughing like crazy over my reaction I crossed my arms and I turned to the side, because I was really upset.

“I know that the last time when we have seen us together, I wasn’t that curvy as now, but I didn’t think that you would be like the others and you would mention THAT first! I am really disappointed!” I said angrily to him.

I thought that he would stop laughing but I was wrong. After I said how disappointed I was he started to laugh even more.

I clenched my teeth and I wanted to leave when he suddenly grabbed me from behind and he hugged me.

“You changed so much yet you stayed hotheaded as before.” said lovely Morpheus to my left ear and I almost immediately calmed down. He sensed as well that I wasn’t as much angry as before because he kept saying:

“But I am glad that you learned the necessity to listen before to strike.”

I smiled knowingly that he was pointing on our first meeting when I started to fight with him before he even could explain who he was.

“I should explain you what I meant by my words. You clearly misunderstood me, and I laughed because I found it funny and on the same time somehow cute and crazy. You know my powers therefore I wasn’t expecting that you would misunderstand my words that much or I would say it in other way. So let me explain it my little hothead Firefly. You were right that I was pointing on how you had grown up after those years, but I haven't meant your physical changes. I was pointing on your heart that rapidly changed. The naive girl that left my kingdom years ago is gone and instead of her there is mature woman standing in front of me.” Then he turned me to him so he would be able to look directly into my eyes and still holding me he seriously said:

“Apropo, when we were already talking about how you look like, I had to tell you that you really had grown up into the beautiful woman. But you know being all those years here I didn’t change as much as you. And you know that I never cared about someone appearance. That didn’t change at all!”

I was ashamed that I obviously misunderstood him and I wanted to step out. He didn’t deserve to have such a lame friend as me that came after such a long time to him and immediately started to accuse him.

He saw that I was embarrassed so he lifted gently my chin with his forefinger.

“Now when I cleared my name, we should forget what happened and talk about another important things. What do you think Firefly?” he said and then he winked at me.

He looked so funny when he winked at me that I couldn't else as to laugh. When he saw me laughing like crazy, he started to laugh too and soon we were both laughing. The embarrassment was gone, and the mood changed as well. We looked at each other and it that second it was again like in old times. We were again the same best friends as always hanging together in this amazing dream world.

Suddenly he stopped smiling and looked somewhere behind me. He looked concerned and that was something unusual. I started to turn back to see what he was looking at. I was curious to see what made him so worried, but he was holding my hand and didn’t let me to turn. I looked at his eyes and I raised my eyebrow because I saw in his eyes fear.

Damn!

What the hell was going on!? This was the first time in my life that I have seen Morpheus scared of something.

“It’s time to go firefly! Now!” he said hastily. I wanted to ask what was going on, but I didn’t have a chance because in the next second he shifted us to his castle.

As soon as we appeared in the main hall my head was spinning, and I needed a time to come to myself.

S…t!

I almost forgot how terrible it could be to being shifted without own willingness.

“Damn! Could you please next time wait for a little bit till I would prepare myself?” I said to Morpheus because my head was still spinning, and I had the feeling as I would vomit. It was the price of being shifted without my will.

He started to laugh and soon after I joined him. My pain was gone, and I couldn’t else as to laugh with him. It was really funny that I was struggling with a heavy stomach and head pain as I wasn’t no one else as a human.

“So no, tell me my dear friend why we were in such a rush?” I asked him when we both stopped laughing and when I saw that he turned pale, I knew that it had to be something really bad. He looked to the side and silently said:

“The time has changed since you were here! The darkness found the way into my world as well and I found out that I am not powerful enough to stop it!”

“Wait! What do you mean that you are not powerful enough!? The Dream world is your world. Your powers should be limitless here, so I don’t understand what exactly you are trying to say to me. After all I saw you powers myself, and you can trust me your powers are everything but limited. So, you have to be wrong!”

He sighed and then he looked directly into my eyes. For a second, I saw the weight of the whole world in his eyes as well as despair.

“For a long time, I thought the same as you. I felt invincible because this was my world and I was its creator. I thought that there is nothing that could happen here without my notice but I was mistaken. I lost the cautiousness and darkness used it. The darkness found the way into my kingdom and was preparing for the right time to rise. When I noticed that something was wrong, it was too late. The darkness infected my world as some kind of incurred disease. I tried my best to fight with the darkness because I thought that I would save my world. But as much as I fought as much the darkness grew stronger. The darkness was feeding on my powers and soon the darkness was so powerful that I couldn’t else as to hide. I locked myself in my castle in hope that I would find the way how to defeat it without my powers. I am not sure for how long I was locked. But today I sensed that something has changed. I decided to find out what it was before the darkness would find it first and I was surprised when I found that it was you. You were back! I was so happy to see you that I almost forgot that my Dream world isn’t safe anymore and we got almost caught by the darkness! Now you know why we had to quickly leave from the Sparkling Meadow. The darkness almost got us! Luckily we made it in the last second!”

“But I still don’t understand. I am the Fate Goddess and I haven’t sensed anything! How is that even possible? And why is the darkness targeting the Dream world? It doesn’t make any sense!” I asked because I was too confused.

Morpheus turned back to me to be able to look to nowhere and he said:

“The Darkness is hiding in the shadows. You wouldn’t sense it till it would be too late for you and you have to believe me that it is the last thing that you want.

The answer for your second question is simple. The darkness is building its own army. You know how vulnerable and manipulatable someone could be when entering my world. Thanks to my world the darkness found the easiest way how to build an army. So anyone that started to dream could be turned to the slave of darkness not noticing it at all and I couldn't do anything only just to look how my world was slowly disappearing!”

“Damn! Morpheus, why didn’t you contact me?! Why were you just hiding?” I was almost shouting at him because I was pissed off.

He looked at me and he looked so lonely and sad that I hardly recognized him.

“You think that I didn’t try to?! I even almost died and yet no one came to help! NO ONE!”
