Kat Mischen came away with four golds—team, all-around, vault, and beam. Uh-Oh Underhill, ironically, though she flubbed the event during the team meet, took individual gold on uneven bars. Kat placed second.
“Backstabber,” Ben seethed.
“Not actually,” Kat explained. “I kind of outed myself.”
“Why would you do that?”
“To be your miserable company.”
“Damn, woman!”
“It was time.”
Kat, unlike Ben, was also leaving London head over heels in love. Her raucous protests about Ben being too young to care about and want such a thing were apparently a cover to protect her own feelings.
