By the third grade Attila was back with his family in an obscure Hungarian village where they were hiding so they didn’t get deported to Siberia. He was sitting idly in his class, when his teacher said something about the number 4 or 4 times a certain thing, like 4 times a piece of pie. Attila wasn’t really listening. He was staring at his first cousin and his new love who was cruelly nicknamed the Undertaker’s Daughter because she resembled her neighbor, the village undertaker. Her real name was Piroshka or Scarlet in English but that would not be quite accurate since the color of her skin was more bluish than red. Everyone knew something was wrong with her heart and unless she received a transfusion she would probably not live out the school yea
