Chapter 84

1231 Words

Amber I had just gotten off my shift, the stiffness in my back and the ache in my shoulders reminding me that I’d barely stopped moving since this morning. I was exhausted—physically, mentally—but the moment I checked my phone and saw Marina’s name on my screen, everything in me jolted wide awake. ‘Meet me in one hour at Le Chantelle’s. It's a restaurant not too far from the hospital. Got something for you.’ My heart started pounding. My eyes flew over the message again, hands tightening around the phone. I didn’t want to waste time guessing. My pulse was already racing, blood thrumming loud in my ears.
