The second I step inside, I know I’m in trouble.
Lucas is leaning against the wall like he’s been waiting for entertainment. Gabriel is at the counter, arms crossed, looking entirely too pleased with himself. Kai stands near the kitchen island, calm but observant.
All three of them look at me.

“What?” I ask.
Lucas grins. “Nothing.”
Gabriel shakes his head. “Absolutely nothing.”
Kai takes a slow sip from his mug, eyes never leaving my face. “You were out there awhile.”
“It wasn’t that long.”
Lucas pushes off the wall and circles slightly. “You disappear into the forest with our cold, broody commander and expect silence?”
“I didn’t disappear.”
Gabriel tilts his head. “He doesn’t sit with people.”
“He sat.”
“He doesn’t linger.”
