Chapter 1: The Beginning

312 Words
Pia didn’t believe in fate. Not really. She’d always thought the whole concept was a romanticized lie—the kind of story you’d read in fairy tales or see in movies. But living in this town… Crossroads… it felt as if she had stepped into a world she wasn’t supposed to be a part of. Her first day at school had been overwhelming—too many unfamiliar faces, too many whispers, too many stares. But there was one face that always stood out to her. Kieran. The guy who sat next to her in history class. The one who always seemed to be watching her—his dark eyes never leaving her for too long. At first, she thought it was just curiosity. But when she looked closer, she realized something more was at play. He seemed to be drawn to her, but in a way that didn’t make sense. He was always so... calm. Not like the other students, who seemed to be either rushing through the motions of high school or fighting for dominance. He was different. And something told Pia it wasn’t just a coincidence. But she never asked him. It was easier that way. Her life was complicated enough without adding him to the mix. Especially when she couldn’t even make sense of the visions, the strange sickness she was starting to feel whenever she stared into a mirror, or the nagging feeling that something dark was lurking just beneath the surface of the town. Her life was already spiraling—too many unanswered questions, too many clues that didn’t quite fit. But one thing was clear: whatever was happening in Crossroads was going to pull Pia into a world of darkness she didn’t understand. And Kieran, with his quiet strength and hidden secrets, would play a bigger part in that than either of them could possibly imagine.
