Elizabeth swam in an abyss of darkness. She couldn't see anything in front of her, not even her hands. She turned, only to see the same pitch-black nothingness. Fear gripped her. What if she was doomed to spend eternity here? “Help!” Stay with me. She turned, looking for the source of the voice who’d said that. Stay with me. “Where are you?” she asked. “It’s okay, sweetie. You’re safe.” She recognized her mother’s voice. “I can't get out. I can't—” “It’s okay, Lizzie. We’re right here,” her mother soothed. Elizabeth felt pressure on her hand, and though she still couldn't see her hands, she returned the squeeze. And just like that, she felt herself getting pulled out of the pitch-black pool.
