Sure enough my parents agreed and allowed me to treat my best friend and her Alpha Mate to dinner tonight on the condition that I cheer up and have fun! I knew the Aloha would have high expectations so I…

“Hey, Cher! Since I’m meeting your mate for the first time and he’s our Alpha why don’t we get dressed up for dinner?” I suggest nervously.

“That’s not a bad idea! And don’t be nervous Onyx! Nathaniel is a total sweetheart!” She agrees instantly, rubbing my back when she notices how nervous I am. I take a deep breath and smile.

“Do you have something to wear, Cherri?” I ask, “you can totally borrow something from me!” She beams at me and pulls me into my house and to my room and goes through the box containing my formal clothes, holding dress after dress up to my body as well as her own. Finally, she stops at a dusty rose pink curve hugging mini dress that sets off her long honey blonde curls and beautiful golden brown eyes.

“Cherri, that’s your dress! It suits you beautifully! You should wear it!” I gush enthusiastically, “I have a pair of cream colored kitten heels that match and of course rose gold jewelry you can borrow!” She beams at me and heads into my bathroom to change while I dig through the box myself for a dress. I find a dark maroon dress that cinches my waist and a flattering full A-Line skirt that stops at my knees and fitted off shoulder sleeves. Hmmm. No. I toss it aside and continue looking.

“Try emerald green Onyx!” I hear Cherri suggest from behind me, “it’ll match your eyes and coloring!” I nod and dig through the box until I pull out a satin emerald green dress that cinches my waist and has a slightly plunging sweetheart necklace, fitted off shoulder sleeves and a skirt that tightly hugs my hips and flares out. I make a face and show her the dress.

“This one? Are you sure? I don’t want to outshine you, Cherri. It’s your birthday after all!” She waves off my words and rolls her eyes playfully.

“Girl please. You know I’m not like that! That’s the dress and you should wear it! It’s sexy but modest!” She laughs as she picks out a pair of black pumps and silver jewelry with my signature gem stone; onyx. She hands me the shoes and jewelry then shoos me into the bathroom to change while she does her hair and make up. I change into the dress and heels then put on the jewelry. I come out and clear my throat to get her attention.

“What do you think?” I twirl, making the skirt flare above my knees and she gasps.

“Beautiful! You look gorgeous Onyx! Now come here and I’ll do your hair and makeup!” She compliments and pulls me over to my vanity and pushes me into the cushioned chair. She applies black and brown eyeshadows to my eyelids and smokes it out then applies a bit of highlighter to my cheekbones and brow-bones then a nude pink matte lipstick to my full doll like lips. For my hair she does an elegant, messy bun that allows my curls to slip free and frame my face perfectly. Her own makeup is shimmery light pink and muted brown eyeshadows smoked out, pink lipgloss and highlighter and her hair is in an half up do and a cream colored bow with long tails as her hair accessory. We were ready. We both grab purses and spritz perfume on then head downstairs where Alpha Nathaniel awaited. Wait.. Alpha Nathaniel?!

“I called him and told him you were treating me to dinner and he was invited.” Cherri whispers to me when she notices how I surprised I look, “he offered to drive us too.”

“You girls look lovely, especially my beautiful mate,” Alpha declares, eyeing Cherri hungrily. I bow my head respectfully and smile at my best friend’s blushing face.

“Thank you Alpha! Shall we get going?” I watch as Cherri loops her arm with her mate’s and I lift my head, grinning like an i***t at the sight.

“You two make such a cute couple!” My mom gushes. Alpha Nathaniel leads us out to a sleek black limo and helps Cherri in then follows after her. I hop in myself and shut the door behind me.

“Wow. Definitely wasn’t expecting to go to dinner in a limo!” I finally say after a minute of comfortable silence.

“Only the best for my beautiful mate on her birthday!” He exclaims, looking lovingly at Cherri who is blushing again, “also please enough of the formality, you are my mate’s beloved childhood best friend, you may call me Nathaniel. Any friend of hers is a friend of mine.”

“Are you sure, Alpha?” I ask nervously, fidgeting with my necklace. He nods in response and rests his hand on Cherri’s thigh. I relax slightly and smile at Cherri who gives me a I told you so knowing smile back. We pull into the parking lot of the restaurant and I hop out, leaving the door open for Cherri and her mate to get out of the limo with ease. I wait for them at the hostess stand and check my phone. It’s 11:00pm… only an hour until Cherri gets her wolf… luckily this restaurant is on pack lands so no startling unsuspecting humans for us. I pay for all 3 of us to have dinner and we wait patiently for a waitress to seat us… it’s 11:30pm by the time we’re finally seated.

“Geez. It’s almost midnight, Cherri!” I exclaim, “almost your birthday!” She nods, obviously nervous. I squeeze her hand soothingly.

“You’ll be ok, hun. I promise.” I say, rubbing circles on her hand with her thumb, “maybe we should wait until she has her first shift to eat dinner, Nathaniel.” I check my phone and it’s 12:00am and right on cue Cherri starts sweating and trembling signs of her wolf emerging.

“We need to get her outside now!” I exclaim, helping Cherri up and hustling her out of the restaurant with her mate on our heels. I feel a throbbing migraine come on and I suddenly feel hot. Sh*t… I was about to shift too and it was coming in hot! Sounds of cracking bones and shrieks of agony fill the cool night sky while Nathaniel mind links Cherri to help her through her shift. I fall onto on all fours, growling as inky black fur sprouts all over my skin and my limbs break and turn into paws. My sight, sense of smell and hearing sharpen and my face elongates into a furry black muzzle. Both Cherri’s and my dress are torn to shreds by the time our first shifts are over. Cherri’s wolf has beautiful wavy blonde fur and her amber colored eyes and is small in size.

“Onyx, you shifted too! And damn your wolf is huuuuggeee… as big as an Alpha’s wolf maybe bigger! And you have dark purple eyes that glow!” Cherri’s mind-link echoes in my head. Nathaniel has shifted into his own wolf and is by Cherri’s side. Suddenly I hear a smooth, velvety and sultry female voice chime in my head.

“You must be Onyx. It’s a pleasure to meet my other half finally. I’m Selena, your inner wolf.” The voice says.
