Chapter Five: Freya

1059 Words
At first, I struggled against the pull on my neck, trying to fight for my life, but with my hands tied, there was nothing I could do. After a while, the lightheadedness set in, and my breaths became shallow. All the sounds around me had dulled, and I couldn't hear them anymore. My life began to flash before my eyes, and then realization dawned on me. There was no getting out of it. I had no other option but to give into my fate. I stopped struggling. I opened my eyes one last time, and looked up at the sky and the moon for the last time, before closing them again, feeling a lone tear drop down my face. I had never felt the night air so cold and calming before. Maybe it was just me, but it made me even more relaxed. The darkness was calling to me, and I gladly answered it. I jolted awake, a loud gasp leaving my lips. I opened my eyes to see chaos everywhere. What was happening? I thought inwardly. Everyone was running and there was a lot of screaming coming from everywhere. I looked at the ground, and saw a pool of blood right where I was lying. I checked my clothes, and saw a wet patch of blood, confirming that it really came from me. What the hell happened? I looked up and saw a man coming towards me with a look of worry and pure panic on his face. I was sure I had never seen him before, and I scanned the area that we were in, it also looked unfamiliar. Memories of the last scene I had experienced began to play in my head, and I gasped. I was supposed to be dead, so how the hell was I alive? I looked around, and there was no crowd around me, cheering for me to be killed, no Anthony, and no Rebecca. There was no way Anthony would have let me go, and I do not have any memory of running away, or getting to that strange place. I frowned again before I looked back at the man. What the hell is going on? I thought. "Luna...Luna, are you alright?" The strange man asked, trying to move me out of what seemed to be a carriage before the unfortunate event happened. It seemed as though an accident occured. But wait! He called me Luna, did he know me before. I could swear I had never met him once in my past life. I began to feel the signs of a panic attack as fear overtook me at the thought of being taken back to Anthony. 'Play along. You have been given a new life. The inhabitant of this body is long dead during the cause of the accident but they don't know that.' I heard a voice say from within me and I could feel the confusion fading away. "Luna....Luna Annie, are you alright?" The man's voice jolted me out of my thoughts. He spun me around frantically, trying to see the extent of the injuries the body sustained but it also seemed like he was hesitant to touch me, as if he was afraid I would raise a hand to him. Who was the former owner of this body? To whom was she Luna? Which pack did she come from? "I'm alright...I'm alright. I hope there are no casualties?" I asked as I looked around concerned. The man appeared to be shocked at my tone, "um..umm, yes. Yes, there are no casualties. We thank the goddess for that" He stuttered in reply. "The new carriage should be here anytime soon. We are almost at the palace so it was easier to immediately send word for another carriage" The man continued. "That's alright. What happened again?" I asked, curious to know the cause of the accident. "I'm sorry my lady. It was a bandit's attack. They were attacking one of the small villages and we didn't want to encounter them so we had to pass through the dense forest. A wild animal startled our horses and the rest is as you know it" "Ohhh, I see. Poor village, I hope something can be done for them. Is everyone here alright?" I asked again and for the second time within that hour, the man looked at me with surprise. "Yes..yes, everyone is alright. Thanks for asking" He replied. "Well, let's keep moving by foot. Hopefully we don't get too far before meeting up with the help being sent" I said and started to take a step forward before the man shot out his hand to grab mine. Turning to look at him, I glanced at his hand on my arm and back at his face again. He seemed to realize himself because he let me go as though he touched a scalding pot of water. "I'm sorry, my Luna. I wasn't thinking" He apologized. "It's alright. Anything the matter?" I questioned, "are the people not strong enough to continue on foot for a while" There was blood on my body but I felt no pain. I wanted to get to a quiet place so I could think about everything that has happened and the best action to take about all of it. I was curious to know whose kingdom the late owner of this body was Luna to and how the Alpha was like. Did he love her so very much or was he like Anthony who never had his eyes in a spot. "Everyone is fine. We can do it." Another person said but I could sense the hesitation rolling off them in waves. They were scared to go against my words. Was their Luna really that unapproachable? Or was that how leadership ran in their kingdom. We walked for a while before seeing the horses and carriages sent to us. I saw the bold insignia on the carriage door but still couldn't recognize it. It looked like one of those fancy royal symbols but I couldn't place exactly what Kingdom it came from. We boarded the carriage and soon we were off. What was really going on? Why did the moon goddess send me here? What is this place? Who are these people? All these questions were roaming around in my mind, with no one to answer them.
