Freya's POV
I followed the men who helped me back to a village. The road seemed familiar but for some reason, I did not know where I was going. What was more baffling to me was that my eyesight seemed different. I had a bit of a blurry vision before but now, everything seemed great- clear and, I could also see further.
I kept wondering what had happened.
"We're glad you're alive. I'm sure the Alpha would be more than grateful to the moon goddess about your return" one of the men said, although he didn't sound so happy and for some reason, I could sense a bit of mockery in his tone.
He and the second man with us made eye contact and then returned to face the road.
"Is it still farther down the road?" I asked.
They looked at me confused. "Luna, have you forgotten the road to our pack?"
I was dumbfounded and confused, what was I to say that could turn them around and make them understand me?
"It's probably the impact of what had just happened. The bandits must have gotten her into a fright. It's completely normal." The second man handed me water, "Here, Luna, this should calm you down."
I took the water from him and poured everything into my mouth. I nervously washed my face with the rest. The cold wind that rested on my face after I had washed it welcomed some common sense back to me. I dropped my hands from my face and noticed a slight change in my complexion. I was more pale than I usually was. Why?
"Do you have a mirror with you?" I asked again, suddenly.
The guards shook their heads.
"But you can have a look at yourself when we get to the mansion," The one who gave me water said.
I nodded and we kept going.
Time seemed to fly past very slowly but before evening, we had reached our destination. The gates of the pack read, "The Crescent Moon pack"
I had not heard of them before, as I was Freya. Crossing those gates, I wondered what they were like. Friendly to strangers or just like my people. I quietly followed them with my face down, avoiding people's gaze as I wondered what was going on. My confusion was growing more inside of me.
"Why are the people looking at me?" I questioned, feeling highly uncomfortable as I whispered to the guard who was walking beside me.
"They barely get to see you outside, Luna. Besides, they admire your beauty"
Beauty? I had barely gotten to see my face. I needed a mirror badly.
We managed to get into the mansion and I raised my face and took off my scarf, finally being able to breathe well.
"Welcome Luna."
"Welcome Luna Annie" ladies dressed in yellow and black had lined up from the entrance down to the stairs. They had bright smiles on their faces as they bent to greet me.
"You are ever radiant" One said as I passed her by.
Hearing that made me blush. I turned to her to acknowledge and couldn't help but notice the surprise on her face. She looked shocked. I was walked into my room and told to get comfortable.
"The Alpha will be seeing you soon. He is in a meeting" The maid told me.
"Thank you" I muttered and then again, the maid paused and stared at me for a few seconds.
"What is your name?" I felt the need to familiarize myself with my new life.
"There is no need to know my name, Luna" she bowed and turned to leave while I stood there dumbfounded. I watched her leave, closing the door behind her, before I remembered I needed to find the mirror.
To my luck, I found a vanity mirror with a matching table and chair in my room. It was painted with pink and blue flowers. It looked beautiful.
I sat before it and my jaw dropped at once.
Seated before me was a completely different person. A stranger. A beautiful stranger.
She was so different, that I shuddered and jumped out of my seat immediately. I ran to the corner to catch my breath for a few minutes before I realized it was me.
Slowly, I made my way back to the mirror.
"Is this... is this my face?" I whispered as I held her pale cheeks.
She had a round-shaped face but high cheekbones and a tiny forehead. Her hair was brown and her eyes were blue. This was in contrast to the old me. The green-eyed girl with light skin and auburn hair that was barely full.
"Wow" her nails were long and graceful too. I couldn't believe it. Is this me?
I pinched myself. Blood rolled quietly out of me. It sharpened my senses.
"What happened to my old self?"
"What happened to my old pack?"
"What happened to Anthony and Rebecca?"
A sudden surge of anger erupted inside of me. The memory of myself being executed by them flashed in my memory. The way I begged and cried. A tear threatened from my eye as I remembered it.
I shook my head to snap out of it and looked at my reflection again as I pinched my cheek.
"I look... I look beautiful..So, I'm beautiful" I smiled widely as the realization started to sink in.
"What happened to her?" I wondered. "What happened to my body?"
Could she have gone back to my body while I went to hers?
"I'm not sure it's possible" I shook my head. I was killed in the most gruesome way possible, with my body being ripped apart and thrown away.
Could she have found a way?
No. I don't believe that could have happened. My body would be too torn apart to be inhabitable.
What was she like? I wondered inwardly. What was her attitude like? What did she like? How did she lead her people?
I thought of these and many more as a million and one thoughts ran through my head.
"Knock knock" I heard someone say at the door. It sprung me out of my thoughts as I rushed to open it. A maid stood bent over to greet me. In her hand, she held a lacey material and some nets on it.
"What is this for?" I shot my eyes at her with confusion on my face.
"The Alpha would like to see you now"
I sighed and straightened up as the last question popped into my head.
What was he like to his Luna?
