Blood and Melancholy

Chapter 5 I run out of the laundry room and race down the stairs inelegantly, almost tripping over empty moving boxes on my way out. My eyes are blurry from my tears, but I try to ignore them. I run outside and sprint towards Stallion. I grab the combination lock on my motorcycle and get it open. Once I straddle it, I'm only dumbfounded that I forgot the key on the coffee table. Fucking hell! Seriously!? I desperately race back to the front door and open it, only to be greeted by one large fierce beast, and Matt in his odd wolf-human form; fighting viciously down the stairs. I slam the door closed. There's no way I can go back in there without being caught in that fight! I'm shaking violently now. I don't know what to do anymore! Matt's car keys were in his pocket, and I don't know how to hot wire a car. It's not like I have someone to go to, and I'm not running into town by myself. Why did I run outside anyway? Why didn't I just go hide in my junky closet or something? … Why do I keep on obeying Alex? Fresh tears start rolling down my cheeks. I've cried so much more today than I've had in years. I hear growling and things crashing on the marble floor inside of the apartment. Matt. I should've just sat there and at least pretended to listen to you. Agh! Why do I do these things? I clench my eyes from anger and frustration. "What do I do now? WHERE DO I GO?!" I yell, holding my face in my hands. Run. The forest... I snap my head up. "W-who said that?" The road was empty, and the neighboring complexes were further a distance away for me to be able to hear somebody from them like that. I shifted in my place. Was this coming from…my head? Intuition, maybe? Saskia. I look across the street and see the dense, almost impossible to cut through forestry. There's no way… Safety. I take a shallow breathe. "I'm trusting whoever you are." I whisper, making my way across the empty street. I reach my destination. "How do I even get through this?" I say to myself. Suddenly, the front door of fly's open. It's Matt in his creepy, human-wolf hybrid form; except his clothes are torn to shreds, and a bristled tail and ears accompany him. But his right shoulder is slumped, almost like he broke it. "Saskia! Please! Don't leave!" Matt yells. I just stare at him, in all of his bruised, bloody glory. I almost walk back, but then I look behind him to see Alex. He looks exactly like Matt right now, only his hybrid features resembled his white hair, and his tail and ears were thinner and silkier; almost cat like. But he also had these weird dark circles around his eyes… Before I could think of it any further, he grabs Matt's hair harshly and whispers something I obviously couldn't here. Whatever it was though, it looked like it pissed Matt off to no end. Despite his hurt looking shoulder, he grabs Alex from behind and throws him down onto the concrete driveway, cracking his shoulder back in place, and causing him to howl out in pain. "Matt!" I yell. I don't even know who I'm rooting for anymore. "Just run, Saskia!" Alex yells back, roundhouse kicking Matt in the back of his knees, making his whole body buckle down from the impact. As if hypnotized, I sprint straight into the brush. My body feels as if it's under a spell. Sticks, thistles, and other things nick at my jeans, but I ignore it. My mind is running crazy right now, trying to figure out what is happening to my best friend, how long he's been keeping this a secret from me, and why I can't seem to stop running; no matter how tired my body is getting right now. Matt, why didn't you say anything to me sooner? Why couldn't you just come out and explain yourself instead of beating around the f*****g bush? You know my attention span is of a nat. But better question is, what one earth made you want to attack me like that?! Why did you seem like you cared so much before I ran away? Why di- I was so lost in my jumbled thoughts, that somehow I didn't see a giant dip in the ground. I scream. My body rolls down the steep hill brutally, running into large rocks and tree stumps. I try to grab the soil, but all I end up doing is breaking something in my left wrist, causing me to scream out in pain. Finally, I stop my violent journey down the hill. My consciousness is slipping from me. I tried to clear my blurry vision, but the soothing sound of my heartbeat lulls me to sleep. Matt's POV "THREE!" My enemy drops Master, who is now sprinting out the room in tears. A pang of guilt stabs my heart, but I try to brush it off. It stays anyway. Out of anger, I pounce on my target, but his quick reflexes make me slam face-first into the wall behind him. He's pretty fast. Better keep that in mind. I shake it off, then turn to where that little menace is. He has now changed into his "intimidating" form. His eyes resembled like burning fire, and his ears were pricked up. He's sitting on his behind, with his snow white tail covering his large paws. Matter of fact, everything on him is white, except for these weird, dark rings around his eyes; making them stand out even more. His form is much slimmer than mine, making him look like a large, sly cat. "Are you done looking me over? Or can we start this thing?" Alex says telepathically. "You asked for it." I answer back. I run over and manage to tackle him to the floor, biting on his neck and tearing off some of his fur. We manage to wrestle our way to the top of the stairs, but he somehow flips me over on my back, and pins me to the floor by keeping an iron grip on my collar bone with his teeth. I try not yowl in agony. He looks into my eyes with amusement. "You know you deserve this." He latches down harder. I growl deeply. "I can't wait till the Chiefs see what kind of mess you've made with your human. Their gunna punish you and her for sure." Oh s**t. He's right. I stop growling and stupidly turn back to my hybrid form. Stupidly, because the force of Alex's bite on my anthropoid collar bone actually breaks it. I scream and flail about, causing us both to tumble down the stairs. On my way down though, I saw Master open the door slightly, then shut it once she saw this madness. She's still around! I have to go get her. We hit the hard floor at the same time, making things on the wall crash to the ground; one of them being a framed picture of me and Master on a Ferris wheel when we were ten. She had her head laying on my shoulder, and I was staring blankly at the camera with a deep blush on my face. If only we could relive those simple, innocent moments again... My thoughts were interrupted by a hard punch in my eye. I groan deeply. Then, with one good eye, I look up to see Alex hovering over me in the same hominid form I was in. He was about to stomp on my face, but I rolled to the side swiftly, making him slam his foot into the marble floor and snarl from the rather painful looking impact. "You little bitch." Alex spits. "Could say the same about you." I laugh coldly, now standing to my feet and rubbing my bleeding eye with the back of my hand. "WHERE DO I GO NOW!?" Someone yells from behind the front door. "Master." I whisper, my ears perking at the sound of her voice. Just stay where you are… Alex chuckles. "She seems lost. You should go help her." I growl at him. What a condescending b***h. Catching him off guard, I run and grab his arm with my good one, then fling him across the room with all the strength I could muster. He hits the wall and tries to get up, but falls back down with a groan. Score one for me. Triumphantly, I limp my way over to the front door, all the while trying to avoid broken glass and fragments of what once was a (rather expensive) vase. I open the front door and look for my Master, who is now trying to make her way into the dangerous looking woods. "Saskia! Please! Don't leave!" I yell at her. She snaps her head up to look at me with a wide, speechless look on her face. I know. I don't look very good at the moment. I can see her eyes look behind me. But before I could turn my head, I feel a hand snake its way through my hair and grabbing fistfuls of it, making me grit my teeth. "Look at her Matthew. She's about to leave because I told her too. She listens to me. Maybe our bond is stronger than yours will ever be." He whispers darkly. "It seems as though, I can make her to be my little pet. No longer will she hold such power..." I growl angrily and try my best to wriggle out of his hold. The cackling man only tightened his grip. "No longer will she be in control of you. Matter of fact, I will make it my mission to break your bond, and keen her on mine." My eyes widened in shock. I could hear the sickly venom drip from his words. "You're welcome." And that did it. A shock of pain shot through me as I somehow manage to twist around and grab Alex from behind me. Ignoring the stabbing pain from my collarbone, I slam him onto the hard pavement, causing him to scream out in pain, and my bone to crack back into place. It doesn't faze me. "Alex!" I hear Saskia yell. Please, stop saying his name... "Just run Saskia!" The enemy calls back. And she does. She… She actually left me. Seeing someone you love so dearly leave you, especially out of fear, has to be the worst feeling in existence. Before I could give it any thought, Alex kicks me behind the back of my knees, causing me to fall down on the concrete. I couldn't feel the pain from the impact. Nor could I feel the hard punches, kicks, and bite marks that were inflicted on my body. I just laid there, numb, accepting it all. He gives me one more swift kick to my side, then crouches down and whispers in my ear, "She will become mine, Matthew." He then walks away, leaving me in a heap of my own blood. Whoever said the phrase "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words may never hurt me." Probably never experienced love.
