"Come on, live a little beauty. "
Ky POV
"So, what's up with this girl?" I nodded my head towards the iconic trio.
"Who, sage?" Darren asked pointing at her.
I nodded my head and continued to look at all of them coming down the hill towards the race track.
I was just finishing with the practice runs on the track before the race tonight. I had a lot of money riding on it. That I could benefit from, and other people that we're betting on me could benefit from.
Darren and Ricky both came down to watch like they always did. We were just making conversation when we all turned our heads and heard a burst of high-pitched laughter.
It was Stella who was annoyingly laughing along with Anna. While Sage was walking beside them.
It was still weird to see her. I mean I'm used to the 5 of us. She was always there hanging around and it threw me off, and I don't even know who she is.
"I don't really know man. Anna and Stella met her about a year ago. She's real quiet and shy." Darren said with a shrug.
"Who are we talking about, oh Sage?" Ricky said answering his own question in the process.
"Who else are we talking about?" I asked in an annoyed manner.
"Well we could've been talking about Stella or Ann-" Darren cut him off quickly before he could respond.
"Stella, really? That girl is opposite from shy! She literally says Hi to strangers off the streets. Oh, and don't forget about the unicorns and rainbows that probably invade her mind every day of every hour." Darren said facing Ricky.
"Hey, Stella is a nice girl, and what's wrong with unicorns and rainbows?" Ricky asked innocently.
We all went silent looking at Ricky with a weird face.
"Bro, I'm done with this conversation."
"All I'm saying is it's better to think about that. Then to think about dragons and fire that most likely invade your girlfriend's mind on a daily." Ricky said with a defensive tone.
"What, no way my girl is not bad. She just has a bad temper. " Darren said shaking his head in denial
"Cut the bull crap, Darren, Anna doesn't just have a bad temper that girl is dysfunctional. She has anger issues." I chimed in.
"Yeah, what he said." Ricky nodded his head wildly.
"Guys, no I'm telling you Anna is-"
"Nope, she totally is. A dysfunctional knows another dysfunctional believe me."
Darren became quiet letting that information settle a little before Ricky snickered a bit in his hand.
"And what are you laughing at?"
"I never realized how crazy your girlfriend is until now. I'm so glad I don't her as a girlfriend." He said with a full-blown laugh.
I looked at Darren and saw he had a tint of irritation written on his face.
"This is coming from the guy that basically goes nuts over Stella. Face, it Ricky after all these years you are still stuck in the friend zone." Darren said with a smirk.
Ricky automatically became offensive. Yelling and raising his voice.
While Darren was also saying snide remarks on the side towards him.
"Hey, cut it out! You both fight like a couple of girls." I yelled while looking between them both.
They finally ceased arguing and continued staring at the girls which were coming our way at this point.
Anna went up to Darren, while Stella stayed back on her phone with Sage beside her who was reading a book.
Man, this girl was so weird.
I just continued to look at her, trying to see who or what she was. She was quiet and didn't even really speak to me. Usually, I can read people like a book but with her, there was nothing to read.
I even scoped her up and down defining every increment of her trying to get an idea.
She wore a plain black sweater, with faded jeans, and black shoes. She was pretty short, and had dark skin.
I looked up to her face, trying to capture an image as well, and I would be lying if I said she wasn't attractive or even beautiful. She had dark brown eyes and short black hair that fell down to her shoulders.
However, she wasn't over top. She was really simple, which confused me even more.
I think she felt me staring at her because she glanced towards me with her brown eyes waiting for something to happen.
However, I crossed my arms and continued to stare at her, even squinting my eyes a bit. She put her head down and maintained to read.
It didn't last long when she moved her eyes up again and connected eyes with mine. We just continued to do that almost wondering who was going to back off first until Stella waved her hand in front of her face.
"Sage, you okay?"
She blinked her eyes a little but nodded anyway.
"So, are we still up for tonight?" Darren asked the girls.
Anna and Stella both nodded simultaneously. I looked at Sage, and she didn't even bother to say anything.
"And you Beauty?"
She looked up staring at everyone. She kind of looked like she was complicating in her mind about the answer.
However, Stella interrupted her again and spoke up for her.
"Oh, Sage usually doesn't go to these things it was like a one-time thing."
"Oh, and then again you're not sage, let the girl speak for herself." I snapped towards her.
We all twisted our heads, waiting for words to tumble out of her mouth. She finally gave a shrug of her shoulders.
"Yeah, sure"
My eyes darted towards Stella who had a shocked expression, and she looked a little upset as well.
"Anyway, we have to get going. Our classes are going to start at any minute." Anna said.
She gave a light kiss to Darren and walked off with both girls in tow.
After they faded in the distance. Darren and Ricky both turned their heads in my direction giving me an off look.
"Are you sure you don't practice magic or something?" Ricky asked with unbelief.
"Oh, please I just asked if she was coming. Why are you guys acting so surprised that she said yes?"
It was true though when it came to the girl they treated her like she was fragile.
The only reason why they treated her like that is that she was shy and really didn't say much. Well, that's the only reason that I can come up with.
They really didn't respond. So., I walked off towards my car going for another practice run.
~
"C'mon girl you got it just a little more," I mumbled under my breath.
I was nearly there, right at the finish line. I could see the white and black checkboard that was engraved into the ground.
I couldn't just see victory, but I can taste it, it was just a few feet away. I stepped on the gas pedal, but it was already all the way down reaching its limit.
However, someway I moved ahead, and the other car fell behind. Before I knew it, I crossed the checkered board strip.
I quickly came to a stop, slamming my foot on the break. The tires screeched on the pavement. When my car came to a final stop halt. Once I stepped out the smell of burning rubber intoxicated my nose. The air was filled with shouts and applause.
This was my favorite part, these were the few things that pointed to my win. I walked back a little towards the crowd.
"Here you are Ladies and Gentlemen the winner of the 3-grand race!"
They applaud even more, and louder. I didn't get it. I didn't get how they can worship me like a God. It was beyond me, and it didn't mean anything to me at all.
The MC shouted again towards the people.
"Now, what lucky ladies want to ride with our Champion!"
All their girls went wild, screaming my name, raising their hands like a kindergarten that urgently had to use the restroom.
There were even men that we're joining in and screaming I love you's. That made me quite uncomfortable. While the other half of the men were scolding their girlfriends for volunteering in the first place. Every year after the grand race, whoever wins gets to choose someone to take on a ride around the track a few times.
Obviously, those who were picked felt like it was a privilege. The racers that won felt prideful about the fact that they got the opportunity to even pick someone. However, to me, it was annoying and useless. I just wanted to take my money and leave.
Most times, but this time I have something else planned. The MC looked at me with a wide smile and waited for me to choose.
I scanned the crowd passing all the desperate trashy looking girls. Looking for the one that I already had my mindset on. I finally found the whole row that included Darren, Ricky, Stella, Anna, and of course Sage.
Her hands weren't raised she wasn't screaming nor was she shouting I love you's and acting like a fool.
She was seated at the edge of her seat curled up in a big black sweater that she had on earlier with an expected look on her face.
That itself surprised me, I lifted my lip a little in a deceiving smirk, and pointed my finger towards her, and wiggled it back and forth beckoning for her to come to me.
She returned with wide eyes and a closed mouth. She even turned her head a little in both directions making sure that it was her.
However, when the MC saw that I pointed towards her. He dove into the crowd running where she was.
Even from here, I saw Anna and Stella trying to shield her away. I guess I wouldn't blame them. It wasn't the safest, and especially the way I drive was pretty reckless.
I didn't care for her life, nor mine. So, it wasn't a big deal well at least to me. He weaved his way through the two protective mothers and grabbed her hand quickly moving to the track once again.
Once they were in front of me. The cheer died down knowing that I picked. There was also booing obviously from the many girls that had disappointment stretched onto their faces.
She looked a little lost and confused. I didn't even put her mind at ease but instead walked towards my car. Luckily, she followed in pursuit.
I was going to open the door when a little voice beside me caused me to stop.
"I really don't think I'm the right one to do this." She said looking at the car up and down in nervousness.
"Come on, live a little beauty."
