Chapter 21 NO-LONE ZONE MONTANA For decades, The LGM-30G series of Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) was the backbone of the United States Air Force nuclear arsenal. They were the ground force part of the nuclear triad. The L in LGM was the military’s designation for a ground or silo-launched missile. The G stood for a surface attack, and M indicated a guided missile. Three solid rocket stages and a fourth liquid stage powered the Minuteman missile.
