EVEN IF I COULD THINK of something, anything, to do, I’d never be able to catch up with the legimal. It wasn’t possible. The leokampoi moved through the water with a natural grace that I could never match with a rowboat and paddle. Or a motor I didn’t even know how to use.
But this helpless feeling, the notion that I couldn’t do anything but watch as Luca was torn apart, wasn’t something I could stand. That couldn’t be how this ended. I had to come up with some idea, some way to make this work.
