12 Worries and Doubts

Max lay in his bed and stared right into the ceiling which was just within arms reach. The whole day played over and over again in his head. He thought that he would at least have to wait a couple of years to be able to buy his own means of transportation, no matter how cheap. But now he had one, and he knew it would save him thousands of dollars easily. His mind then drifted to Jules.   “How can I help? If there’s any possible way I can help, you just call me ok? If these guys are bad people, and people will be hurt… I wanna be there to prevent it.”          He remembered the conviction in her voice and the fire that had kindled in her eyes. Max chuckled, and could not help but be impressed at the young woman’s ability to bounce back from trauma. Of course, there was no way that she still was not affected by that night. She could have died, and she knew it. Max thought that maybe, she does not want a repeat of that night to happen at the hands of the Wolfpack to any other person. A smile grew on his face, as he closed his eyes. For now, he knew what everyone had to do.         “Hey Max,” Trae whispered from the bottom bunk. “You still up?”        “Yeah,” he replied.        “Can’t sleep huh?”        “Yeah, today was a lot,” Max chuckled, as he turned on his bed.         “Yeah man, we got motorcycles! But, I’m kinda worried about Jules...”        “Why’s that man?”        “What if she ain’t up to it? She is fully aware these are high up, professionally trained, ex-military people, but I can’t help but think she might not be ready,” Trae said, expressing his hesitation to let Jules join them.         Max thought to himself again. Trae was right. If Jules was to join them, she had to be completely sure about what she was getting herself into. He decided he would talk to her about it tomorrow.        “Max? You listenin’?” Trae asked, propping himself up on his elbow and leaning out to look at the top bunk.         Max shook out of his deep thoughts.         “Y-yeah, yeah. I’m here. Don’t worry. I’ll talk to her tomorrow,”        “Aight man, I just don’t want any innocents to get caught in the crossfire,”        “That’s a ten-dollar phrase Trae,” Max said, as he turned to face the wall. “Let's get some sleep.”        “Aight, good night man,”        “Yeah, good night.”        For a moment, there was silence.         “Max...so how far did you go with Jules,”        Max jumped and turned to look down at Trae’s smug, smiling face. He threw a pillow right into Trae’s bunk, to which the latter received it while laughing.         “Shut up and get some sleep!” Max said again, embarrassed at the question.        “Yeah, yeah! Whatever lover boy!”       Max smiled, knowing that everything was ok with him and Trae now. He was also happy at the fact that Jules was safe. Everything was working out, only with a few hiccups here and there. For now, Max could finally have a decent night’s sleep, knowing that he got his partner in crime back. With that, he finally drifted off to sleep.    ----------          He woke up the next morning alone. Trae had gone off to class early according to the note that he had left behind on his desk. Max smiled, knowing that Trae was letting him know where he was off to again. It was finally time that he put their whole argument behind him. With a sigh of relief, he stepped into the bathroom and took a shower. In his head now, was the thought of Jules, and if she was truly ready for committing to such a dangerous task. The water poured onto Max’s body, which was still bruised and battered from the fight a few nights prior. The cold water stung his skin, where his wounds were, as they dripped down the rest of his figure. He focused on the cold rushing water, and let his head be hosed as if it was this that cleared his mind.         Max, refreshed from the cold shower, toweled himself dry. The cold air gave him goosebumps. He thought that he should get dressed quickly, as days were already starting to get colder. He wrapped the towel around his waist and reached for the door handle. It was then that he heard some rummaging in his room, just outside of the bathroom. He froze. He was sure Trae was smart enough to lock the door behind him. And had been a few days, so maybe the Wolfpack members were already released. His mind started to panic, as he reached for the toilet plunger for protection. He could handle one person, but if there were more, then he would be in trouble. Max quietly pressed his ear onto the door of his bathroom, and closed his eyes, listening to the sounds that were coming from his room just on the other side. It was isolated to the desk areas. There was clunking and knocking. The footsteps were light-footed, but a little relaxed. That, and there was only one set of footsteps happening in the room. He gathered his courage and gripped the plunger. With that, he threw the door open.        “Who’s there?!”       Surprised, the red-headed beauty Jules, looked at him as she was setting down what looked like plates onto their desks. In those plates were chocolate cakes, which she was wrapping in cling wrap so the ants wouldn’t get to it.         Max stood there dumbfounded. They locked eyes for a moment before Jules noticed the plunger.         “Pfft, bahahahahahahha!!!!!”         Jules laughed incredibly loudly at the image of a young man in a towel, holding up a plunger for protection.         “Max! Max! Help, I can’t breathe! Ahahahahaha!!!!”        “Shut up Jules! I didn’t know who you were! What if you were someone else?”        She kept on laughing as Max turned a beet red. He put the plunger back into the bathroom and held onto his towel to keep it from falling. Impatient, he waited for Jules to finish her laugh session.         “Ahaha, ah! My stomach! I’m sorry im done! Whew,” she said, wiping tears that ran down her cheeks.         They looked at each other for a few moments, before Jules’ eyes started wandering down Max’s body. On impulse, he covered his manly bits before Jules could get a good look at the outline. When she looked him in the eyes again, she smiled a devilish smile.         “Freshman, how long do you intend on staying half-naked in front of a lady?”        “Urgh! Right ok! Im sorry! I’m gonna get some pants on!”        As he grabbed his pants and turned back to the bathroom, she clung onto him from behind and wrapped her arms around his bare upper body. He looked at the open bathroom door that seemed to be beckoning him to come and change, but his back was feeling another sensation. Something he had not experienced in his life. Jules pressed her chest against his back and blew on his ear. He shuddered and remained completely frozen.         “You know Max, you’ve actually got a nice body you know?”        “J-Jules! W-w-what are you doing?!” he said, trying to pull away.         “Aww, come on Max. Don’t you know what I’m trying to do?”        He froze. He felt his heart was not yet ready to do this kind of thing with someone he was not married to. Yet he was being glomped on by a beautiful girl, while he was half-naked. His hormones raged, as he desperately tried to contain himself.         “W-what are you trying to do?”        Her lips parted with a wicked grin. Suddenly, she covered his face with his underwear that was just lying around.         “I’m trying to clean up your mess! It’s a pigsty here!”        She started to laugh again as Max breathed out a sigh of relief. His virginity could be saved for another day. He looked back at Jules, who seemed completely satisfied with herself and her prank. She smiled at him and held up a peace sign, as he entered the bathroom to get some pants on.         He came back out after a little while, still shirtless. He sat next to Jules, who was seated on Trae’s bottom bunk.         “I hope what I did wasn’t going too far Max, I was just having a little fun!”        He shook his head, still a little embarrassed by the whole ordeal.         “It’s alright. I just didn’t expect any of that,” he said with a light chuckle. “Anyway, how did you get in?”        “The door was unlocked!” Jules said as she pointed casually to the entrance.         Trae should’ve been more careful, Max thought. He shook his head again and leaned back.         “Ok ok. Anyway, what are you doing here, Jules?”        “How mean! I just came for a visit! I don’t really come looking for just anyone you know? You guys are really nice so I like being around you!”        Max smiled.         “I see… a visit huh?”        Max figured that now would be as good a time as any to tell her about how he felt regarding her request to join their group.         “Hey, Jules… I gotta ask something.”        “Sure, what is it?” she said smiling back at him.         He couldn’t help but see a naivete that brimmed from her demeanor. This worried him even more.         “Jules, you know about the Wolfpack… They are a dangerous bunch. You’re aware right?”        She nodded, looking at him as if curious as to where this conversation was going.         “And you know, they can get by-laws and stuff… because they’re rich.”        “Yeah, I know that much!”        He decided to be straight with it.         “I’m worried that you might be involved with even more danger if you’re associated with us, so I was wondering if you were ready for that,”        She suddenly fell silent, as her demeanor changed completely.
