I thought I had been completely numb to the pain by now. But the hollowed-out space in my chest still ached with a freezing, agonizing sting. The papers were delivered quickly. Julian furiously scribbled his signature and forcefully threw the documents right at my face. "Leave. And don't you regret this," he ordered. As his words fell, I dragged my battered self up from the floor, grabbed the divorce papers, turned around, and walked out the door. It was pouring rain outside again. The torrential storm instantly soaked me to the bone, yet I realized I had never felt more wide awake in my entire life. My phone suddenly buzzed. A familiar, deep, and steady voice came through the speaker. "I'm waiting for you in Aguatal." I turned off my phone and securely fastened my seatbelt
