Chapter Eight

A loud roar pulled me from the embrace of my sister-in-law, and we all turned to the balcony door in time to see my mate flying off in a rage of flames. Nimue shook her head beside me and huffed in frustration. Her eyes turned to me apologetic and angry. “Mia, I am so sorry for my brother. I don’t know what has come over him.” I shrugged sadly, grateful for Amelia’s arm still wrapped around my waist. “It is no fault of yours Nimue.” I smiled at her sadly, hoping she would see I did not blame her in any way. My eyes turned back to Amelia and down to her swollen belly. My hand reached out to stroke her bump, smiling as I felt a small kick against my palm. “You know I could feel it when you put my hand on your belly and heard the heartbeat too. It made being trapped in that hell almost bearable.” Amelia’s eyes swarmed with tears as they spilled across her cheeks. She pulled me into another tight hug, that I returned with just as much fervour. Loud footsteps approached the room before a group of people burst through the door, their eyes all falling on me. ‘Mia!” my dads voice pulled me from Amelia’s arms and I practically sprinted towards him, flinging myself into his awaiting arms as fresh tears spilled from my eyes. “Daddy.” I sobbed into his neck, his arms tightening around me, as if he never planned to let go. I could feel his own tears as they soaked into my hospital gown. After a fair amount of time we withdrew a little from the hug and his hands grasped at my cheeks, stroking them gently as his deep blue eyes gazed into mine. “How?” he asked, his voice cracking with emotion. “I received a kiss from my mate.” I replied simply, not wanting to ruin our reunion by re-living the rejection. My fathers gaze scanned the room in confusion, and I placed my head on his chest as I hugged him tight again. “It’s a long story.” I felt him shrug as he squeezed me tight, making me smile. Soft hands pulled me from my father’s tight hug and into an even tighter one. Her smell made more tears of happiness well in my eyes as my mother held me tight. We stood there in each other’s arms for what felt like hours, but was only a few minutes before she pulled pack, her eyes so much like mine gazing happily at me. “My little princess,” she whispered, “I’m so glad you’re finally awake.” She stepped back from me after placing a kiss on my forehead and allowed the rest of the group of people to hug me and say how happy they were I was awake. Uncle Magnus and Aunty Emma, Uncle Fergus, and Uncle Colin, everybody was there and by the end of it I was all hugged out. As I stepped back from the last hug, the tinkling of a bell pulled my gaze to my feet where Amparo sat looking up a me, his lips stretched in a kitty cat smile. “Amparo!” I scooped him up into my arms, burying my face in his soft fur, his purring soothing my soul. I held him tight to my chest as I gazed around confusedly, coming to the realisation that there was two people missing. “Where’s Seth and Luca?” I asked no one in particular. My father placed a hand on the small of my back and I was led from the hospital room that was my home for four years and we made our way out to the front of the pack hospital, Amparo still clutched tightly in my arms. “Seth and Luca had to go deal with the hysteria that was caused by a fire breathing dragon over at Blue Water.” I saw Nimue shake her head at that statement and I chuckled at her frustration. We all walked in silence after that as we made our way to the pack house and I smiled as we entered, all the familiar smells swarming over me. I’d missed this place so much. I gave everyone another hug before my parents led me up to my bedroom, whilst Uncle Magnus showed Nimue to her guest room. My room had not changed one bit from before I’d been placed in the sleeping curse, and it was as though I’d never left. “I cleaned it every week so that you wouldn’t have to deal with dust when you finally woke up.” My mum smiled sadly as she stroked the comforter on my bed. Her eyes fell on me as she approached, tears brimming on the edge of falling. Her soft hand stroked my cheek lovingly, as she placed a soft kiss on my forehead. “We will leave you to freshen up my little princess, then we shall catch up on the years you missed.” My mother lifted Amparo from my arms and I smiled at my parents as they left me in my room. I collapsed onto the bed with a sigh as I took a moment to appreciate that it finally happened. I was finally home.
