Quazum and Ben were sitting in the old pirogue boat floating in the swamp. The sun was beginning to rise as Quazum cast out his rod. Ben sat watching with a bamboo pole and his cork floating in the water. “How come you got the rod and reel? And you get to cast it out?” asked Ben. “I want to use that.” Quazum looked up at Ben and remembered being in the same position with Gabriel. “It’s something that my grandfather taught me. You must first master the art of snagging a fish with the pole.” “I can cast out a rod,” answered Ben. “What’s the big deal?” “Before you cast out into the swamp, you have to learn to quickly pull the line and hook the fish.  Those skills come from building experience.” Ben yawned and was hardly paying attention when his cork started to bounce in the water.
