Chapter 6: First Date?

2433 Words
Autumn’s P.O.V. When the party was over, I searched for Cleo since we had to already go home. Freya offered to help me find my friend but I didn’t want to cause her any trouble so I insisted that she waited for us in the car.   For a couple of minutes, Cleo was nowhere to be found. Granted that the yacht was quite massive, I was frantically searching the whole boat, worried that she might have fallen overboard and was floating somewhere in the ocean.  When I finally saw her, she was sitting in the lounge area of the upper deck staring blankly and brooding over something. I told her that we had to go and she followed me quietly.  She was acting really weird. For all the years that I knew the woman, she never kept her mouth shut.  “Are you okay?” I asked when we were on the way to the parking lot. “Yep.” She said briefly then looked spaced out once again. I decided to leave her alone for now. She didn’t look like she was ready to talk and needed some space to think. When we got in the car, I apologized to Freya for the wait. She said that it was no trouble and started to drive. When we arrived back at my apartment, Cleo gave a quick goodbye to us and ran to her own car and drove home.  Freya looked at me with a confused look and I just shrugged. I didn’t know why my friend was acting weird, maybe something happened at the party.  “Well, thanks for the ride and thanks for giving me a chance, that really made my day.” I said while giving her a bashful smile. She looked at me and chuckled. I pouted and glared at her.  “You’re a silly Kitten. You don’t have to thank me for that.” She grasped my left hand and gave it a soft peck that sent wild butterflies in my stomach.  After that, I was speechless. I gave her a wave goodbye then ran off inside my apartment building. I unlocked my door and slammed it shut.  I stuck my back against the door to support my knees that were feeling like jelly.  The realization finally hit me. I released a squeal and jumped around, which was a little out of character for me, I’m usually composed and serious but I decided that today was an exception. I was so happy! This has to be the greatest night of my life. When I was with Freya, I tried my best to contain my excitement and now,  I finally got the chance to let it out.  I quickly got ready for bed and I slept that night with a wide smile on my face while thinking of the woman I love. *** It was a week after the party, Freya and I had been texting back and forth but we hadn’t had the chance to meet yet.  We were both busy with work. Although, this Friday, she was only needed in her company until noon and I only had a couple of things to do at the lab so I could finish them by that time. She invited me for coffee so we’ll see each other for coffee after lunch.  I had lunch with Cleo first, she said that she had something important to say. She told me that she needed to tell someone or else she’s going to go crazy.  Finally, she was ready to talk. For the whole week, I didn’t see her. It seemed like she was avoiding me. We just ordered Chinese food and brought it back to my apartment.  As soon as we sat down at the table, we started unwrapping the food and ate. “So? What’s happening with you?”  She looked at me for a second then went back to staring at her fried rice.  She was silent for a minute then she released a sigh. She then started spilling her guts out.  Cleo told me about the girl that she met at the party. The moment she saw the girl, she was absolutely petrified. She told me that she never felt that kind of attraction but the moment that she was going to talk to the woman, she ran away from her.  The woman occupied her mind and she was going crazy from thinking about her.   Cleo was determined to find the girl and told me that she would do everything in her power to see the mystery girl once again and to claim the woman as hers. After telling me everything, I stared at her for a couple of seconds and suddenly laughed hysterically.  I couldn’t believe it. Has my friend finally found her match?  “Well, good luck. I hope you find her. Didn’t you catch her name or something? I may know her or I could ask my brother where to find her.” “No, I wasn’t able to ask. Our eyes met, she turned scarlet and then suddenly, she was running away from me.” She said frustrated while palming her face “Aww. You scared the poor girl away.” I said chuckling. “Stop laughing. It’s not funny, Autumn. I want her so bad. I have such complicated feelings for her. I can’t stop thinking about her. How in the world will I find her? Maybe, I should just forget about her.”   “Giving up already?” I said while standing up and cleaning up the table.  She gave me a dirty look. “I’m not! But, I told you, I’m the type of person who just wants fun and avoids being serious but that girl makes me think otherwise and I hate this feeling.  She isn’t even my usual type! She looks timid and definitely inexperienced.” I gave her a look that asked if she was serious and shook my head. We kept talking about her girl while I gave out some ‘unhelpful advice’, her words, not mine.  I kept teasing her about it and she got pissed at me. She was the one who usually teased me about those kinds of things, it was finally my time to get revenge on her. After lunch, we got out of my apartment and went our separate ways. I started my car and drove to the cafe where Freya and I were supposed to meet.  We decided to meet in a lesser known cafe to avoid the crowd. She picked a cozy cafe that still serves a good cup of coffee. When I went in the cafe, the little bell on the door rang and the strong smell of coffee invaded my sense of smell.  I went to the counter and ordered an iced green tea. While waiting for my drink, I received a text from Freya that she was on her way.  I got my drink from the counter and looked for the most secluded area in the cafe. I took a seat on one of the sofas and grabbed my book from my satchel.  I’ve been reading the ‘Stalking Jack the Ripper’ series and I’m currently on book two. I absolutely adore the plot of the story. I don’t usually have the time to read books other than the ones that I need for work but I always make sure to catch up on my ‘fun’ books during my free time. Reading books was one of my hobbies starting when I was young, it was one thing in common that I have with Freya. We used to talk for hours about books that we’ve read and was reading when she was at our house. I was too caught up on what I was reading so I didn’t notice that Freya was already sitting in front of me. She was just looking at me with a smirk while drinking her coffee. “Oh, hi! Sorry, I didn’t notice you coming.” I said while placing my book down on the table. “It’s fine. You were really focused on your book and I didn’t want to disturb you so I just let you be.”  I took a sip of my drink to clear my throat, “Yeah, I was just catching up on my reading.” “Speaking of reading, I brought you something. It’s part of our new release and I thought that you might like it.” Freya said while handing me a book.” “Wow! Thanks! I’m sure I’ll love it. You’ve always known the type of books that I like.” I gave her a smile while checking out my new book excitedly. “No problem, anything for you.” she said while giving me a look that will make anyone fall for her. Like old times, we talked about our latest favorite novels. We could talk hours about this stuff.  “How is it working in a publishing company? I imagine that it must be so fun.” “It is but it also can be quite challenging. My company publishes all kinds of books in a broad variety of formats, we don’t only focus on physical books. We’ve expanded to  e-books, audiobooks and others, you know we gotta keep up with the kids nowadays.”   I couldn’t help but laugh hysterically. I looked at her and she was looking at me like I was nuts.  “You sounded like you’re so old.” She gave me a quick glare but gave out a smile anyway. “Well, I’m not as young as I used to be.” She said then shrugged. After an hour and half, we decided to leave the cafe and move to the local library to lounge around and continue talking... quietly, of course.       *** We spent our time in the library until it was closing time. While we were walking back to where we parked our cars, we decided to stop by an ice cream parlor.  There were no other customers inside, I looked at the selection and was ecstatic to see my favorite flavor. “Kitten, What’s yours?” She said while still looking at the display. “Green tea, please.” I said while licking my lips.  Before she looked at me with disgust with my choice of ice cream, I could swear that I saw her eyes looking at my lips. “Seriously? Doesn’t that just taste like dirt?” She asked curiously. “Wha-at? No! I don’t know about you but it tastes yummy to me.” I said while chuckling. Green tea. Some people hate it, some people love it. It’s an acquired taste, you know? Personally, I like anything green tea. Tea, ice cream and even my face wash has green tea in it. Obviously, I don’t eat the latter but I do love the smell. Freya ordered mine and she ordered vanilla for herself.  I scoffed at her choice. “Seriously? Vanilla is so basic.” “What? It’s a classic.” She said then stuck her tongue out.  When we finally got our ice cream, we walked towards the park and sat on one of the benches.  It was a quiet night, only a few people were there. We were sitting on one bench but we sat in way that we were still facing each other.     I finished my ice cream in a few minutes, while Freya was still eating. I kept stealing glances at her, a little jealous of her spoon, what I would give to switch places with that spoon right now. I didn’t notice that I was straight out staring at her until I saw her lips curved up to a smirk.  “You finished?” It took me a minute to process her question, “U-uh, with my ice cream? Yeah, I’m done.” “No. Are you finished staring at me?” She said while looking at me in the eyes.  Once again, I subconsciously looked down at her wet lips.  “You’re staring again.”  I stayed silent feeling the embarrassment and moved my head to look away from her. “Kitten, you aren’t being fair. Let me look at you too.” She said while moving closer to me and gently got a hold of my face to look at her. She stared at me, inspecting my face until her eyes fell to my lips.  My heart was pumping right out of my chest. The tension was undeniable and there was only one thing for us to do. I closed my eyes the second I felt her soft lips pressed against mine. I could just die right at this moment and I would have been content.  The kiss was short and chaste but that didn’t take anything away from the experience. It was still incredible for me. The moment I finally got myself back together, she stood up and I followed. We started walking back again.  “You were right.” She said with an amused smirk. “With what?” I said in confusion. “Green tea ice cream doesn’t taste that bad.” She said then chuckled. I could feel my face heat up, I glared at her and she just laughed at me again. We were parked in different areas, Freya decided to accompany me to my car first.  “Today was really fun. Mind if we continue this tomorrow?” “What do you mean?” I said while unlocking my car. “Can I invite you for dinner tomorrow?”  I couldn’t help but smile, “Sure. I’d love to.”  “Great! Wear something a little formal. I’ll pick you up at eight.”  We said our goodbyes and she gave me a quick hug that allowed me to smell her wonderful scent.  I got in my car and drove home, feeling giddy. | Jan.22.21 |
