Chapter 1: Rejection Conjunction

2052 Words
Autumn's P.O.V. (FLASHBACK: Autumn is 16 and Freya is 21 years old in this timeline) I just got back home from school and was about to head up to my room, when my brother, Hunter, approached me. "Hey sis, are you joining the party tonight?" I looked at him with suspicion "Party? What party?" "I'm having a party tonight. I've invited all of my friends from university." He said before asking the maid to prepare something for the party "What? You're having a party again? I'm telling mom and dad" I said irritated and attempted to threaten him. "Go ahead, mom and dad just left. They are attending a week-long medical conference in Germany." He said while poking out his tongue. Our parents are often not around because they were both world renowned doctors. My brother always takes the opportunity to party at our house, whenever they are gone. He said the purpose of his parties was stress relief. I wasn't able to argue with him because he is currently in the last year of his pre-med and I could only imagine the stress that comes with the workload. Obviously, he's aiming to be a doctor, just like our parents. So, it's kind of expected that I was also going on that route. But, I'm not really sure yet, I don't think it's really me, you know? I knew that I probably wanted to become a medical researcher in the future rather than a physician. I didn't really like interacting with people. I'm a major introvert. I'm the most introvert of introverts. My thoughts for my future were cut off by my brother. "Anyways, you should be thanking me for this party, you know?" "Huh? Why?" I said confused. "I've invited Freya." He said while smirking. "Freya's coming?!" I said in joy. "Yeah, the one and only love of your life." He continued. I was suddenly very excited for this party then I started to panic. "Why didn't you tell me sooner? I've got to get ready." I said while slapping his arm. "Do you really still like her until now? It's never going to work out, you know that, right? Besides, you are far from her type." I glared at him. "Shut up! Nothing is impossible. Someday, I'm going to make it happen, you'll see." I said enthusiastically then hurried back to my room to get ready. When I finally finished making myself presentable, I was already hearing music playing downstairs. I decided to just wait for a while to go down to the party. Freya always arrived late for parties so I didn't want to go downstairs for nothing. I really missed Freya. I haven't seen her since I was thirteen years old. She used to always come over our house to hang out with my brother. Then they entered college. Whenever I asked about her, Hunter said that she was extremely busy with school and girls so they weren't able to hang out that much. I realized that I had a crush on her at an early age. Now that I'm sixteen, I wanted to confess my love to her. I didn't want to have any regrets so I am building up the courage to finally do it. However, as my brother said, I knew that I wasn't her type of girl. Aside from the fact that I was five years younger than her, the type of girls that I've seen with her, were the ones with the pretty face and a rockin' body. Looking at myself in the mirror, I'm at most normal looking, not ugly but also not that pretty. I’m a brunette and my eyes are steel blue. I’m not too tall, not too short. In other words, I am boring and AVERAGE. My thoughts were cut short by a familiar sound of a speeding Harley approaching the driveway. I got out to the balcony to see if it’s who I think it is. My room balcony has the view of our beautiful front garden and driveway so I could see the people arriving.  After the motorcycle had come to a stop, the rider got off and removed their helmet. As soon as I saw beautiful blonde hair, I knew that Freya had arrived.  When I finally got to see her in full view, She was absolutely gorgeous but what’s new? She was always  a vision of perfection. She was wearing black ripped jeans and a white v-neck top with a  black leather jacket.  When she walked in the house and out of my vision, I went back to my room, locked my balcony and made haste downstairs.  Hearing the loud music and the smell of alcohol, My eyes were only focused on finding her.  I stopped my search when I saw her talking with my brother. They were laughing and joking around so I decided to not disturb them just yet. They had a lot of catching up to do. I made my way to where the alcohol is and made myself a tequila sunrise. I needed a little bit of alcohol in my system to be able to push through my confession or I might chicken out.  A few minutes and after rejecting several guys wanting to get on my pants later, I finally decided to talk to Freya. I looked for her and I saw her finally alone sitting on the love seat while holding a beer. I walked towards her. “Hi.” I said timidly.  She looked at me for a couple of seconds and gave me a bright smile. She stood up and engulfed me with a hug. “Hey Autumn! It’s been so long since I’ve seen you. How’s my little kitten? Not so little anymore, I see.”  I shivered from hearing her voice and I also missed her calling me with that pet name.  I wasn’t able to reply immediately, my body was still overwhelmed from the sudden contact between us. I unconsciously inhaled her delicious scent and savored it for a moment.  “U-uhm, I’m good. How about you? How’s college?” “Pretty good. Just getting quite busy but it’s nothing that I can’t handle.”   “I w-want to tell you something. Can we go someplace quieter?” “Sure. Lead the way, kitten.”  I walked ahead of her with knees trembling slightly from anxiety.  I led us outside to the grand garden and walked further inside. Our garden was ginormous and there was a chance that someone could get lost if they didn’t know the layout. We were making our way through the hedge maze and I knew that Freya knows where I’m taking her because Hunter and Freya used to play here when they were children.  No one was talking and Freya just followed closely behind me.  Finally, we arrived at the beautiful gazebo that was placed in the middle of the maze.  I made my way inside and as soon as we were under the roof of the gazebo, the sky released a slight rumble of thunder and it started pouring rain. Nice! What a great way to start! The moment that I decided to confess to the love of my life, it started raining hard. Was this a premonition of imminent disaster?  Maybe, I should rethink this and confess another time? But, I already thought about this a million times. I was going to confess TODAY, no backing out whatever may happen and I can’t let a little bit of bad weather stop me.  My back was leaning on the railing of the gazebo while Freya was sitting on the bench while looking at me quietly, patiently waiting for what I have to say.  Oh God! She must think that I’m being so weird. I brought her here and I wasn’t even saying anything.  After a few seconds of contemplating with myself, I was determined to push through my plan. It was now or never.  I was about to walk towards Freya but she suddenly stood up from the bench and came near me instead. She stood beside me and leaned back on the railing with her forearms.  “The rain is really coming down hard, isn’t it?” She said breaking the silence. “Uh Yeah…” My goodness! Why am I so awkward? “So… Are you going to tell me why we’re here, anytime soon?” She said with a teasing smile. “Y-yeah, I’m sorry. I just didn’t know how to start.” I muttered. My heart was pounding out of my chest and the words that I wanted to say were stuck in my throat. “I’ve been wanting to say these words to you and I already know that this may be a long shot but I had to take a chance…” I faced towards her and looked straight at her mesmerizing eyes.  “I l-love you. For a very long time, I’ve been admiring you from afar. I’ve always looked forward to seeing you every time you visit here. Every time I see you my heart thumps at the speed of light. So, will you go out with me?” I was rambling. I can only say that my confession sucks. I panicked. Everything that I planned and practiced to say was forgotten.  After releasing everything that I had to say, I was out of breath. I just realized that I wasn’t breathing when I was rambling. I looked at her but she stayed silent and looked away from me.  Oh God! That wasn’t a good sign. I waited for her to reply but I could already feel that I won’t like whatever she was going to say. I heard her sigh. And I could feel myself starting to tear up. “A-autumn, I don’t know what to say. I mean, I’m flattered by your feelings for me but… I’m sorry...  I can only see you as a little sister… And besides, I already have a  girlfriend and I believe that she is THE ONE for me.   I love her very much. So, I can’t accept your feelings.”  While hearing those words, I was trying my best not to bawl my eyes out, “Oh. I see…  Well! Uhm! I understand. Thanks for your honesty. I just wanted to let you know...  Well, I guess it doesn’t matter anymore. Forget about what I said, I was just being silly.” I laughed bitterly. I bit my lower lip to stop myself from whimpering. My heart was continuously being crushed at the moment.     “Hey Kitten, I hope we’re still okay? I don’t want to lose my little sis.” She said with a worried look on her face. I gave her a small smile to reassure her. “Don’t worry. Everything is fine between us. I’ll move one eventually…” Hopefully as soon as possible. I thought to myself.   After that, we kept silent and waited for the rain to stop. Thankfully, the rain eventually let up. I said a quick goodbye to the one I love and ran back towards my house. *** When I finally got back to my room, I dove down my bed and buried my face on my pillows and released the tears that I was holding back.  MOTHERTRUCKER! My heart hurts so much. I didn’t know that being rejected would hurt this much...  This was a big mistake. If only I could turn back time...      I can’t believe that I was so naive to think that everything was going to be fine after I confess. I want to immediately erase my feelings for her… but my heart tells me that I won’t be able to. With that thought, I cried myself to sleep that night. | Dec.09.20 |
