Teira's POV
The triplets tried to argue, but they could tell I was determined. It was late afternoon, too early for dinner. I stood and looked at them, "I'm gonna go get Kyle, then we can head down to the cells." I said, heading for the doorway.
"Whoa, princess. Hold your wolves," Tyler said, standing in front of me. I placed my hands on my hips and glared at him, "Tyler, if you think I'm not going down there -" I started to say, but he held up his hand to stop me. "Far be it from me to try and stop my girl when she's made up her mind, but it's not pretty down in the cells. I don't want you going down there without knowing what you're in for." he said, holding my hands gently.
I huffed but nodded, letting him lead me over to the couch where Matt and Ryan were waiting. Tyler sat and placed me in his lap, his arms around my waist while Ryan sat on my right and Matt on my left. I looked at them, waiting for them to start explaining. Ryan scratched the back of his neck nervously, "Angel, the cells are livable but barely. Most criminals we put down there aren't expected to come out alive. They are dark, damp, and cold. They are clean as we make sure the pack members that haven't committed a serious enough crime to be put in the cells clean them as their punishment. There are also no windows, just a ventilation system to keep the air circulating down there. It's not something most pack members should see unless they're a warrior or guard." he explained.
I gave him a deadpan look, "Did you boys forget about the basement in my parents' house?" I asked. They flinched and growled, "This is different, princess." Tyler said seriously. "How?" I asked c*****g an eyebrow at him curiously. He looked at me seriously, "We don't chain our prisoners in silver cuffs or use whips laced with silver on them." he growled holding me tightly. I turned in his lap and hugged him tightly, Matt and Ryan joined in creating a tight group hug. "Sorry." I said shamefully looking down at my lap, "I didn't mean to bring up bad memories but I need answers from Dad. The sooner I talk to him, the sooner I can face him in the trial." I said trying to convince them of my urgency.
I didn't know what punishment the Alpha would give my parents after the trial, this could be my only chance to ask my Dad about my Mom before he was either banished or executed. Matt sighed, "Don't look at us like that treasure, we're going to head down there but one of us will be in that room with you and Kyle when you talk to David. No arguments. We'll also have to inform their lawyer about you talking to him, not that he can stop you as this will be an interrogation sanctioned by the Alpha. But we do have to disclose the information. It might be used in the trial." he said.
I nodded, I had already expected that and was prepared for that to come up in the trial. I stood up again and looked at the boys, "Let's go."
Kyle stayed beside me as we headed out of the packhouse and across the outdoor training grounds, the cells for the criminals were in a small concrete building that had two warriors guarding the outside at all times. He turned to me as Tyler opened the door, "You ready for this Tei?" he asked. I looked at him, I could tell he was nervous but was trying to hide it. We were going to be confronting our father about something that he hadn't wanted either of us to find out about, there was no telling how he'd react to me. I smiled at him and nodded, "Ready as I'll ever be. Let's go get some answers." I replied as I grabbed his hand and we walked in the door.
The boys led us down some steep, stone steps, using their wolf sight to lead the way. Tyler walked behind Kyle and I, protection in case a prisoner got out. Thankfully there wasn't anyone down here except our parents. We stepped onto a concrete floor at the bottom of the stairs that led to a dark hallway lined with cells, it was just as the boys said, dark, damp, and cold with vents at the tops of the walls to circulate the air.
Silver-lined bars did mark each cell, the cells also smelled a bit due to the toilets in them for the prisoners to do their business. There was a desk with a small lamp and a warrior watching a video on his phone. He jumped up and bowed to the triplets as we approached, "Alphas, what brings you down here?"
Matt smiled, "Hank, we need to have a talk with David Harris. Can you please take him to the interrogation room at the end of the hall?" he asked. Hank nodded and grabbed the keys from the desk heading down the hallway while we waited, we heard him open a cell door and a voice, "What do you think you're doing?! Unhand me at once! Do you know who I am? My lawyer will hear about this!" Dad's voice called loudly as Hank marched him down the hall.
Another voice rang out as he headed back towards us after putting Dad in the room, "What have you done to my mate?! If he's hurt, I'll have your head when I get out of here! Where's my son?! I want to see Kyle!" Isabelle shrieked. Hank stopped and looked at her cell, "Your mate's fine. He'll be back in a bit, now stop yelling." he said gruffly dismissing her curses as he bowed to us again. "Alphas, right this way."
Kyle gripped my hand tightly, he wasn't prepared to see his mom today. I squeezed his hand gently, "It'll be ok, Kyle. Just remember, we're here to talk to Dad. You can confront Isabelle after if you want, but we need to see Dad first." I whispered as we followed the triplets down the hall.
Isabelle's cell was in the middle of the row, she was wearing a thin, ragged gray dress as her uniform and was sitting on her bed staring out the bars dazedly. She didn't blink when she saw Ryan and Matt but when Kyle started to walk by her blue eyes went wide and she crawled to the bars, staying far enough away to not come in contact with them, "Kyle. My baby, you finally came to see me. Kyle?" she said reaching out to him. Kyle didn't look in her direction or respond, he just kept walking, holding my hand tightly as her cries grew louder as we walked farther away.
The boys heights kept her from noticing me and that suited me just fine, I didn't need to be cursed at before talking with Dad. I'd probably hear enough cursing from him anyway.
Hank led us inside the interrogation room, it looked like one of those rooms you see in cop shows. We were standing in a dark room with a large window set in the wall. Dad was in the other room behind the window, handcuffed to a steel table that was bolted to the concrete floor. He was sitting in a chair behind the table and hunched over.
The window was a two-way mirror, meaning Dad couldn't see us and from the look of the door that led into the other room, he couldn't hear us either. He looked thinner than the last time I had seen him, his hair was lank and unkempt, there were dark circles under his eyes and he was wearing a gray jumpsuit that was made of the same materials as Isabelle's dress. Still, his green eyes glittered with the same sharp wit that made him a successful legal advisor and aide to the Alpha.
This man was anything but defeated despite being in the cells.
I took a deep breath and let it out slowly, adjusting the small bracelet I had gotten at the mall. Val had helped me pick it out, it held a relief of a flower wrapping around it and a tiny recording device hidden inside. She insisted that it would be useful when talking to my Dad and I hadn't argued. I looked at the triplets and Tyler nodded, "I'll head in first, then Kyle, followed by you, princess. We don't want to tip him off unless we have to. You ready?" he asked. I looked at Kyle, who nodded then smiled at Tyler, "I understand." I stated and he smiled. He caressed my cheek with his hand then opened the door.
Dad sat straight up when Tyler walked in, he sneered for a moment then put on a fake smile, "Alpha, to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?" he asked as Tyler sat down. Tyler shrugged, "Nice to see you too, David. How've you been? Guards treating you well?" he asked nonchalantly. Dad glared, "Please, as if you'd care about my well-being in here. But to answer your question, the hospitality is quite lacking. Now, what do you want?" he snarked.
Tyler smiled, "We found something interesting at your home after your arrest." he began. Dad growled, "You mean when you broke into my house and assaulted me for simply teaching a rogue a lesson?" he asked. Tyler leaned forward and the boys behind me growled furiously, "You mean the girl we found strapped down to a concrete slab with silver cuffs that you were whipping with silver? You're still claiming that she's a rogue that wandered onto the territory?" he said deadly calm.
Dad sniffed, "Of course, who else would she be?" he asked and I had to admit, Dad was good at acting. Tyler smiled dangerously, "Your daughter?" he asked taking out a copy of the certificate we found and laying it in front of Dad. Dad glared at it, then smiled languidly, "Did that girl give this to you? Alpha, surely you know of the tricks rogues will play in order to join a pack. The girl obviously forged my name on her certificate with a computer and gave it to you. Anybody could make a copy of a certificate." he said shrugging.
Kyle clenched his fists and headed for the door, he slammed it open and walked in. "Stop lying, Dad. They know she's my sister. And that certificate is not fake! Start telling the truth before the Alphas make you!" he yelled angrily sitting down beside Tyler. Dad glared at Kyle, "Alpha, I don't know what my son has told you but it's all nonsense. I don't have a daughter, never have. It's my mate's fault we were never able to give Kyle a sibling so he tends to make up stories to battle the loneliness he has sometimes. That girl is a rogue, and nothing more." he replied ignoring Kyle's outburst.
Tyler sighed, "Well, we tried the easy way. You could have told us the truth willingly, David. But you will give us answers, one way or another." Dad looked at him nervously, he probably thought Tyler wouldn't give the command. But I knew better. Tyler motioned for me to come inside and Hank followed.
When I entered the room, Dad's eyes turned red with rage and he strained against the cuffs. "You! What is she doing here?! She should be dead or bedridden at the very least!" he yelled as Hank held him down. Tyler let me take his seat after making sure Dad was subdued and then nodded to me, I faced Dad calmly not letting any of my feelings show.
Tyler looked at Dad as Hank made him sit up straight and gave the order.
"Tell us everything you know about Melinda Sutton and Teira Harris."
