Wake Me Up When Today Ends

Ava “Amara has awakened, my dear. It’s time,” Orpheus said, sniffing. “I can smell her transformation right at the tip of my nose.” I scoffed. “How does that help me?" “Hmmm . . . That makes it easier for you to track her down. Why don’t you use somebody close to her? Someone she can never fight against. Amara became human after all . . . and being human is a weakness.” “Brilliant. But where? Where could I find somebody close to her who’s willing to invite me freely? We both know I have to be invited in before I can use a human body. An animal can never be an option, and that is lunatic. The last time I used an animal, it spit me out. I can only use a human body, and nothing else. Where could your head be, Orpheus?” “What about her friends, my dear? I’m pretty sure there’s someone ready to betray her. Someone with jealousy in her heart, and you know who I am talking about.” “Olivia,” I uttered. "Absolutely." *** Maddison "Ha ha ha! What a wonderful story, Mom," I uttered, slowly clapping my hands. "That's the truth, Maddie," somebody said. "Hannah?" Mom and Dad asked, surprised. "How did you get in?" Hannah didn't answer. My brows furrowed. "This is hilarious? So I am a vampire, and you are . . . let me guess. You're a magician, aren't you? You saved me with your powers in the woods." I smirked. "Powers? In the woods? Did something happen in the woods?" Dad asked. "It's a long story, Dr. Greene. And to answer your questions, I am a witch. I'm sorry for intruding on your family conference, but I guess this is the right time that you know the truth." Hannah looked at me. "Maddison, you have to control your emotions. They're your source of your power. Whatever you feel tells you what you do and there's no telling whether it's gonna be good or bad. You just have to control it." "This is . . . crazy!" I stood up in anger, but Hannah pushed me back into my seat. "Manere," she uttered, extending her hand towards me. For a moment, my body froze. I could only move my eyes and lips. My parents were astonished upon witnessing the scene before their eyes, and it wasn't long before they fainted. "I'm sorry Maddie, but I have to do this," Hannah said. "You and I are supernatural beings. I mean . . . you. I am human, but these powers make me a witch." "I know you can remember what happened in the camp. Tell me, do you remember everything?" "Ha ha! Well, if you insist, yes! I know what happened in the woods. That Mrs. Shaw is a witch just like you, and that she erased everybody's memory to hide her true identity. What about you? Have you always known that you're a witch?" "No, but my mom told me the moment I told her about what happened in the woods." "So what do we do now? What should I do now? Now that I know that I am a monster!" "Maddison, you are not a monster. You are special. We are special. These powers were given to us to use for the better and to protect humanity against evil." "Evil?' "Yes, you have to learn how to use your power. You are the only one who can save us, and I can help you strengthen your powers. We have to prepare before evil comes to kill and destroy us once again." *** Ava "Sounds like a great idea, Orpheus," I said. "Your intelligence is as remarkable as my father's trust in you." "Of course, my dear. Go, use Olivia's body. Adrian was a loser. He was useless anyway. Andrew was his weakness, and his feelings for the spoiled brat made him vulnerable. I suggest you use better bodies next time, my dear. Remember, we have just found a witch . . . Hannah. We have to be careful." "I shall use better bodies, Orpheus," Ava answered. "And I agree. Olivia is a perfect candidate as my next victim." "That's my girl. That's my baby girl. We have to awaken the hibernating powers of Kateka." "Kateka?" "Yes, Kateka. It's where the blue crescent moon has ascended centuries ago . . . now known as the woods at Blue Crescent road." Orpheus smiled devilishly. "Thanks to our dear accomplice, Mrs. Shaw, for opening the doors of supernatural power the night she released her supernatural energy." "So that's the plan, huh? To make a scene that would compel a supernatural creature to use power. What a shame! Why don't you just attack?" "Tsk, tsk, tsk. Ava, Ava my dear. Ignorance and recklessness shall never let you win in any game. Use your brain, not your temper," Orpheus said, pointing at his head. *** Maddison I woke up with a groggy head. My body was in pain, and I couldn't move. It seemed like my bones would break even more at every little motion I made. Looking around, I panicked, thinking that I was alone and could only see a little light coming from above. I realized that my hands and feet were tied in chains, feeling the cold and heavy material around my arms and ankles. "Hey! Let me out of here!" I screamed. "Hey! Let me out!" "You're only straining your voice, Maddie. Trust me, I've been screaming for hours before you woke up," a voice from behind me said. "No one can hear us." "Michael?" I looked around to see Michael in chains lying on the ground and couldn't move either. "Michael? Is that you? Where are we?" I asked. "I don't know, Maddie. I can only remember the explosion and when I opened my eyes, these chains are on us. Are you alright?" he asked. "No, I'm not. I am not alright, and we both can see that. We have to get out of here, Michael. Oh, I think my backbone is broken. I can't move my body. Mom! Dad! help us!" I immediately got up, grasping for air. "Ah . . ." I covered my face with my hands. "Screw you, nightmare," I uttered, throwing a pillow on to the floor before turning the night lamp off on the bedside table.
